Masterfully Made Slimline Card

This Masterfully Made Designer Series Paper is so interesting and there are so many ways you can use this paper as you can see with this Masterfully Made Slimline Card. The card turned out differently than I expected, as is often the case, and you can’t tell from the photo, but I will explain!

I just purchased this designer series paper during the Stampin’ Up! designer paper sale in June, but if you missed it, don’t worry because during July 2023 you can earn a $5 coupon for every $50 you spend in July. Then spend that coupon in August! It’s called Bonus Days! Every $5 helps when you want to buy products at Stampin’ Up!

To make this card I started with a card base of Azure Afternoon but in the Slimline design. The cardstock is cut at 6″ x 6″ and then scored at 3″ so the card front is 3″ wide by 6″ high. You can make a slimline card in various sizes but I like this size to go with some standard envelopes I already have.

I thought it would be fun to just cut strips of the Masterfully Made Designer Series Paper to fit across the front of the card. If you had already used a lot of your paper, you might have scraps you could use, but in this case, I had to cut into mostly new sheets of paper just for little strips! A tough thing to do, as you can imagine, with such beautiful paper!

I also added a layer of Basic White over the Azure Afternoon which just brightens up the paper strips a little against the medium blue. I just used very narrow margins, so the Basic White is cut at 2 7/8″ x 5 7/8″ and then the strips are cut at 2 3/4″ x 1″. I wasn’t sure about the width of the strips until I played around with the card a bit. I ended up using eight different strips of paper.

The paper itself already looks like it has torn edges. That is the way it is printed. After I was getting the strips laid out how I liked them, I got the idea to tear the top edge of each strip and even kind of rough it up along the torn edge with my fingernail. I suppose that was an unnecessary step when the paper already looks torn and when it doesn’t really show up in the photograph. Even in person, I barely notice it! But it does add a little texture to the card and surely the recipient will notice it and be impressed!

In looking through greetings to put on the card, it obviously needed something small and I found this one in the Charming Sentiments Stamp Set. “Hey there!” is just cocky enough I think to go with this rather wild designer paper! I stamped it with Azure Afternoon ink on Basic White and diecut it with a rectangular stitched die in the Warm Welcome Dies (which I forgot are retired now but you will find another substitute or just cut a rectangular piece). I also made an Azure Afternoon layer under the greeting.

That’s all there is to this card! You could also make the card horizontal and use longer strips of paper! Just play and see what you come up with! But you will definitely want to experiment with this Masterfully Made Designer Series Paper!

And look at all the colors that these papers coordinate with! I always like to write the color names on the back of the designer paper cardboard so I can READ THEM without getting out my glasses! I wish Stampin’ Up! would print the labels larger!

Slimline Painted Christmas Banner Card

Slimline Painted Christmas Banner Card

I remembered that one of the Christmas papers in the Holiday Mini Catalog is a returning one, Painted Christmas! And I have it from last year so I was anxious to try it out again! After pulling out all the papers and some coordinating colors of cardstock, I came up with this Slimline Painted Christmas Banner Card, much to my surprise!

I say “much to my surprise” because I didn’t imagine I would be making a slimline Christmas card! But you never know what you may come up with! As it turned out, from the pieces of designer paper and scraps of cardstock, it just seemed like they would fit well as a slimline card! This is even a fairly large one that could be used if you wanted a lot of people to sign the card!

The card base is 8 1/2″ x 7″, folded in half so the width is 3 1/2″. I used Pear Pizzazz cardstock. The layer of Painted Christmas Designer Series Paper is 3 1/4″ x 8 1/4″.

For the greeting, I decided to use the Christmas Banners Stamp Set. I stamped the banner in Real Red ink, diecut it with the Christmas Banner Dies, then stamped the words. You could do all the stamping before die-cutting. The stamp set and dies can be purchased together as the Christmas Banners Bundle so you can save 10%. I thought the banner might need a background to stand out better so I used Real Red cardstock to die cut a Stitched Rectangle. You might notice it is longer than the actual die. I used that technique to partially cut the rectangle, then stop and move the die down longer, lining it up with the already cut die-cut lines. You will feel it fit in there. But don’t roll that end of the die through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss. Start it farther down and then roll the platform past the longer end. If you try it, you will figure it out! It always takes me a minute to remember how it works, but it’s a good technique when you want a longer die.

Next, I stamped and diecut lots of the leaves and stems in the Bundle to decorate around the greeting. I even found a scrap of gold foil in my little pile so I used that for a little gleam on the card. The banner greeting is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals® and the stems can be slid a tiny bit underneath the banner around the sides. Just lay around with the pieces that you have and see what looks good. For a finishing touch, I added some Red Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

This card will fit into one of those long business envelopes or you can use the Slimline Envelopes in the Annual Catalog. Here is another slimline card, but much smaller, in this post. That one is 3″ x 6″ but I think that’s a good size too. Just make your cards to fit the envelope you have! We are past July 25th so it is LESS THAN five months until Christmas! I hope this Slimline Painted Christmas Banner Card offers you some inspiration for a holiday card!

Color & Contour Slimline Card For a Friend

Color & Contour Slimline Card For a Friend

When you want to make a card, but you can’t think of an idea, just look in the Stampin’ Up! Catalog for inspiration! That’s what I needed to do to come up with a card recently and the catalog didn’t disappoint. This Color & Contour Slimline Card For a Friend is the result. I may have practically just opened the catalog to a random page or just paged through a little bit before finding this sample card on page 96. Something is bound to catch your eye when you do this! Maybe it will be a color, stamp set, or card design that gives you an idea. You never know. And oftentimes, I start out with one idea or copy one idea and end up with something completely different. This time I stuck pretty much to the sample I was copying.

First of all, this is a “slimline” card, kind of a new trend, a change from the normal size card we make. I cut a 6″ x 6″ piece of Basic White Thick Cardstock and scored it at 3″ so that the card base would be 3″ x 6″. Next, I tried to copy the scalloped edge that goes partly down the card front on a diagonal. There is a scalloped edge die in the Scalloped Contours Dies. I think I used the correct one but I think my dies got mixed up and this one was with another set of dies. (This is why it would be a good idea to scan the set of dies when you get them before you take them off the paper, so you know exactly what goes with each set!)

I just cut out a piece of Basic White cardstock that would fit on the front of the card and laid this scalloped die diagonally where I wanted it, looking at the sample in the catalog. I didn’t want it to start in the top right-hand corner, but come down a bit before the scallops started. And I wanted it to stop before it got to the bottom of the card.

The pinkish paper you see on the catalog sample and on my card is from the Hues of Happiness Designer Series Paper. It’s on the “other side” of one of the beautiful floral papers so it is difficult to use! The design on this side of the paper has other colors, too, so you may need to cut the exact section you want of the paper. You can even cut it shorter than 6″, just so it will fit under the scalloped piece when it is glued down.

The Balmy Blue flower from the Color & Contour Stamp Set is stamped directly on the white scalloped piece along with some of the leaves in the same stamp set. Then I stamped the Melon Mambo flower and the So Saffron flower on scrap paper and die cut those. These flowers are all two-step stamping and I will say it is difficult to line up the stamp design and it’s difficult to line up the die on the stamped flower. The die is easier, though! However, since the flowers are sort of an abstract design anyway, it doesn’t matter so much if you get the two-step stamping perfect! I colored in the leaves and the flower centers with Stampin’ Blends markers.

The greeting on the sample is on Balmy Blue cardstock and embossed in white with a partial greeting from the Color & Contour Stamp Set, but I chose the “friend” greeting from the Happiness Abounds Stamp Set. First I die cut the small scalloped rectangle in the Scalloped Contours Dies in Balmy Blue but I thought that looked like “too much” so I used the scalloped edge die in the Painted Label Dies for something light. I put my greeting near the bottom of the card since I didn’t make my card quite as wide as the sample. You could also add some gems to the card and I may go back and do that. Sometimes I forget before I take the photo for my blog!

Here’s another slimline card I made a little while back on my blog.

With a brand new Stampin’ Up! catalog, there are many, many untapped new samples to try out! Copy or just get some ideas when you look in the catalog. I hope you will try a card, maybe a slimline card like this Color & Contour Slimline Card For a Friend.

Blackberry Beauty Slimline Floral Card

Blackberry Beauty Slimline Floral Card

This Blackberry Beauty Slimline Floral Card is what happens when you open a package of designer paper you just received and you didn’t realize this pattern was in the package and you just say to yourself, “Wow! That would make a beautiful, simple card!” Sometimes just seeing a sheet of paper inspires you to make a certain card design.

This designer series paper, Blackberry Beauty Specialty Paper, is so popular it has been back-ordered multiple times! It is beautiful paper for fall with its gold foil accents! This particular pattern is one of those with an empty space down the middle of the 12″ x 12″ paper so you can just cut it in half and then possibly make six cards out of that paper. When I saw these tall flowers (are they Queen Anne’s Lace?), I knew I was going to make a slimline card and that this pretty pattern wouldn’t really need much else!

The card base is Early Espresso. To make a slimline card, just start with a piece of cardstock 6″ x 6″ and fold it in half so the card is 3″ x 6″. This will fit in a regular envelope you might have in your desk at home. I cut the designer paper at 5 7/8″ x 2 7/8″ to just leave a narrow margin around the edge. You can cut the designer paper to take the best advantage of the placement of the flower or flowers on your card front. For example, you wouldn’t want half of this big flower cut off if somehow the way you cut the paper made that happen.

For the greeting, I stamped one from the Pansy Patch Stamp Set on a die-cut piece of Basic White. This is a small rectangle die from the Stitched So Sweetly Dies. I needed something very small for this card since there isn’t much space! This greeting is part of a longer sentiment so I colored only the part I wanted with the Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker. You’ll find this marker in the Neutrals Stampin’ Write Markers.

To add a little bling to the card I just added a strip of the Gold 3/8″ Shimmer Ribbon under the greeting. It just adds a little more sparkle of gold to go with the gold foil sparkles on the paper. You could use another gold ribbon if you like. Since the Early Espresso card base is pretty dark, I added a layer of Basic White for a stamped or written message on the inside of the card.

Certain designer papers are just made to be used all by themselves, I think, like this one! It would even be very pretty without the greeting on the front. We don’t always need to make a very fancy, fussy card when just a simple one that shows off the paper or some other element is all that we need for an elegant card.

Flowers For Every Season Thinking of You Slimline Card

Flowers For Every Season Thinking of You Slimline Card

Have you tried this “slimline” type of card yet? I’ve made several recently just for something a little different. It’s actually a card idea that was around years ago and just came back! You can make them of various lengths and widths.

t seems I have made all my slimline cards using the Flowers For Every Season Designer Series Paper! I think it is because I hadn’t used it in a while and the 6″ x 6″ size was perfect to use. Because of the paper size, I decided to just make my card 6″ x 6″, folded in half so I could use a piece of designer paper 3″ x 6″.

I chose the yellowish paper with little flowers all over for this card. Before adhering the paper to the Whisper White card base, I adhered a strip of Bumblebee 1/4″ Gingham Ribbon to the paper, wrapping the ends around to the back and then adhering the designer paper to the card base. Then I made a separate bow out of the gingham ribbon and adhered it to the ribbon using Mini Glue Dots.

The greeting is stamped in Cinnamon Cider Ink with the Blossoms In Bloom Stamp Set. There are some good greetings in that stamp set. Then I die cut the greeting with a die in the Tasteful Labels Dies. It is popped up over the ribbon with Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

To decorate the greeting I had already cut out various flowers from some of the other papers, so I adhered two cut-out yellow flowers to the greeting. And since I can’t leave those In Color Enamel Dots alone, I had to add three dots to the greeting as well!

I think these slimline cards are a nice change up to send people. After being used to the size we normally send, this size will be a pleasant surprise! This size will fit in that medium size envelope we probably all have in a box from the office supply store. If you make it longer, you can use the longer style envelope that lots of our mail comes in.

Here is the first slimline card I tried with a blue pattern in the Flowers For Every Season Designer Paper. (Gee, I added some Enamel Dots on that card, too!)

You can use any designer paper you like, or simply stamp, but try one of these slimline cards just for fun like this Flowers For Every Season Thinking of You Slimline Card.

Flowers For Every Season Thank You Slimline Card

If you are looking to make a “happy card”, look no further than this Flowers For Every Season Thank You Slimline Card! Some days you just need something “happy” and the flowers and colors in this pretty paper will improve anyone’s mood or day!

This is what is called a slimline card since it is long and narrow. You can make these cards longer and a little less narrow and they will still fit in a business-size envelope. Since this paper is 6″ x 6″, I thought 6″ wide would be plenty slim-enough. Half a sheet of the designer paper would fit on the card front. This card will fit in that smaller regular size envelope that people use, not our good Stampin’ Up! envelopes.

For this card, I just made a card base of Whisper White at 6″ x 6″ folded in half to 6″ x 3″. I chose two patterns of the Flowers For Every Season Designer Series Paper for this card. There isn’t any margin, the designer paper is the full size of the card base. Actually the flowers and the polka dots are the same sheet of paper, opposite sides. I just cut each piece wide enough to overlap on the front of the card and adhered a ribbon across the seam of the two papers. It’s a very easy card to make.

The ribbon is the pretty Magenta Madness In Color Ribbon. I adhered it around the designer paper layer and then adhered the designer paper to the card base. I also tied a knot on each side of the greeting.

The greeting is in the Blossoms In Bloom Stamp Set. I wanted it to fit on this particular circle die cut so I stamped the words individually one above the other. Make sure the stamp is completely clean so you don’t get a bit of ink where you don’t want it. It is stamped in Just Jade Ink to match the polka dot paper, then die-cut with that pretty circle in the Tasteful Labels Dies. As extra little accents on the greeting, I cut out by hand a few flowers from the designer paper and adhered them to the greeting die cut. The greeting is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals®

If you would like to try something a little bit different but easy, try one of these narrow, slimline cards. Here is another one I made recently that I really liked making.

While we are all getting excited and beginning to get wrapped up in making holiday cards and projects out of the new August-December 2020 Mini Catalog, let’s not forget the pretty things in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. There is still time for colorful flowers like on this lovely designer paper and we could all use some bright and happy colors and cards in our lives right now so try something like this Flowers For Every Season Thank You Slimline Card.

Flowers For Every Season Monochromatic Slimline Card

Flowers For Every Season Monochromatic Slimline Card

The latest cardmaking craze these days seem to be “slimline cards” so I made this Flowers For Every Season Monochromatic Slimline Card. Now I don’t really even know the exact details of a “slimline” card so maybe this technically isn’t one! But I made a long, narrow card as opposed to our normal 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card! This card is 3″ x 6″ so whatever it is called, that’s what I made!

The other day I was working with my Flowers For Every Season Designer Series Paper and realized all over again how pretty and bright it is and that I hadn’t used it in a long time. When I got out my paper to design a card, since the paper is 6″ x 6″ I thought, “Why not cut it in half and make a card out of a 6″ x 6” piece of cardstock folded in half?

The card base is Whisper White, as I said, cut at 6″ x 6″ and folded in half so that the card front is 3″ x 6″. I cut this blue pattern of the Flowers For Every Season designer paper the full 3″ x 6″. I debated about using ribbon, but decided to just use a 1/2″ strip of a dotted side of the designer paper instead.

The greeting, in the Blossoms In Bloom Stamp Set, was stamped in Misty Moonlight Ink, which matches the designer paper. It is die-cut with a Stitched Shapes Die.

I already had stamped the flower from the Tasteful Touches Stamp Set. I adhered the greeting flat on the card but I popped up the flower with Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

For a little bling, I couldn’t resist adding a few Misty Moonlight 2020-2022 In Color Enamel Dots. I think these have been very popular since they came out in the Annual Catalog! As I write this, they are on “Low Inventory” so get yours while you can! They work so well because they are small and fairly flat.

Try this different style of card, no matter what size you want to make it, as long as it will fit in an envelope you have! Of course you can always make your own envelope. I’ve made this kind of card years ago, so what goes around comes back around again! You can make a card like this a few inches longer and about an inch taller, but since I was working with 6″ x 6″ designer paper, this Flowers For Every Season Monochromatic Slimline Card was the perfect size for me.
