Easy Penguin Playmates Gift Bag

While I was thinking about what to make for the LAST DAY OF SALE-A-BRATION today, I looked in the Sale-A-Bration Brochure for a little review and decided to mostly copy a little sample bag on page 5 and this Easy Penguin Playmates Gift Bag is the result!

I used the same measurements to make this little bag that I did the other day on THIS POST except that I made it shorter! So I started with the Penguin Playmates Designer Series Paper that measured 6″ x 11 instead of 8″ tall on the other bag.

To make any bag like this one, always pay attention to the pattern and direction of your paper, to make sure it will end up with the design going in the correct direction! I first cut another paper (well, actually it was already cut in my package of papers) but it would have had the animal images sideways!! Score this paper at 2″ for the bottom flaps and then score on the long side at 2″, 5 1/4″, 7 1 /4″, and 10 1/2″. Cut away the tiny little piece at the end that is 1/2″ x 2″. Just crease all the lines, then cut the flaps apart at the bottom. Apply adhesive to that narrow little 1/2″ strip on the end and fold the other side over to adhere to that piece. This will start to form your bag. Next fold in the flaps at the bottom, applying some adhesive and trying to pay attention to which is the front of the bag.

Different from the bag I made the other day, I pinched the top together to close it. You can add a tiny bit of adhesive to hold it closed. You can punch holes in the top and thread ribbon through to tie it closed. On this bag, I just tied a piece of ribbon around the top. It’s the Flowers For Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack, of which I used the Just Jade gingham ribbon.

For the tag, I die cut a tag from the Tailor Made Tags Dies. It was too long so I just cut the banner end by hand (doesn’t have to be perfect!) and also cut out one of the penguins from the designer paper by hand with Paper Snips. So many cute images to choose from that you can cut out from the paper! I added a small layer of Basic White Cardstock and popped the penguin up on Stampin’ Dimensionals. Then I added tiny drops of Multipurpose Liquid Glue and adhered 5 little Subtle Shimmer Sequins. I found these in my drawer and hadn’t used them yet! These sequins would be good for shaker cards, which is probably why I bought them!

I ran one end of the ribbon through the tag and tied the bow. You can use a few Mini Glue Dots to hold everything in place if you want. I think the recipient can still get it open with a couple of glue dots! Or you could just adhere the tag to the bag and add a separate bow to the top of the tag, maybe leaving off the ribbon at the top of the bag, or use a smaller bow on the tag.

This was a fun little project to make because the paper is so cute! You could use this paper for little favor bags for Christmas parties. But the only way to get this paper is to place a Stampin’ Up! order TODAY, the LAST DAY OF SALE-A-BRATION to get this paper FREE with a $50 order!! Sale-A-Bration ends tonight just before midnight MT!

Don’t let this be YOU tomorrow!!

Peaceful Prints Kraft Christmas Gift Bag

Peaceful Prints Kraft Christmas Gift Bag

One thing I always enjoy making are gift bags out of plain shopping bags like this Peaceful Prints Kraft Christmas Gift Bag. Lots of times I can use ones I get at stores, even if they have the store name printed on the front because that printing gets covered up. Just remember, it is just like making a card, maybe a larger one, that you adhere to the front of the gift bag! It’s so much fun to make a personalized bag for any occasion!

For this bag, I used the Peaceful Prints Designer Series Paper. You only have this month left to get this paper, and you can get it FREE with a $50 purchase at Stampin’ Up! during Sale-A-Bration! I tried various layers of paper and cardstock and combinations before I settled on this! Sometimes you just have to keep playing and working until it all comes together!

I used a piece of the Peaceful Prints Designer Paper for the background piece. It is 7″ x 8″ and I liked the way it matched the trees. The background paper (5″ x 6″) has little deer and tiny trees on it and is layered on Real Red Cardstock (6 1/2″ x 5 1/2″). I decided to add trees, some die cut with Christmas Tree Dies out of the Peaceful Prints paper and some out of Garden Green Cardstock. I sponged a little Garden Green Ink on the cardstock trees. I used three different tree dies to make different size trees. Some are popped up on Dimensionals and some are adhered flat on the designer paper. The deer are cut out by hand with Paper Snips from the designer paper.

The greeting had to be a little bit small to fit in the space. It is in the Frosted Gingerbread Stamp Set. It is cut out with one of the Tasteful Labels Dies and layered on a small banner die also in the set. Make some of these ahead of time and you’ll be all set for gift-wrapping during the holidays!!

Pretty Pumpkins Gather Together Fall Card

Pretty Pumpkin Gather Together Fall Card

I just love the possibilities of this pumpkin stamp set and dies with my first attempt being this Pretty Pumpkins Gather Together Fall Card. On my first opportunity to order from the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog I chose only holiday things and left fall and Halloween until later. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this stamp set. As it is rightly named “Pretty Pumpkins” I think you will be able to make many pretty pumpkins on your fall cards and projects!

My card has a Pumpkin Pie card base and I started off planning to make it a horizontal card rather than this vertical. But I often change my mind as I go! I also started with a Basic White layer for the background. It definitely needed something and what I came up with was using my Blending Brushes to add color to the white paper! I got the idea from the bottom sample in the Holiday Catalog on page 48. The colors of ink I used were Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry, Granny Apple Green, and Rich Razzleberry. I only added the colors lightly, rather randomly around the white cardstock and I just LOVED those colors together! If you don’t have the Blending Brushes yet, you can use a sponge or Sponge Daubers.

As you may have guessed, the stamp set used on this card is the Pretty Pumpkins Stamp Set. If you want the Detailed Pumpkins Dies too (and yes, you do!), then purchase the Pretty Pumpkins Bundle and save 10% on the set. The sparkly pumpkin is die-cut out of the Sale-A-Bration Be Dazzling 6″ x 6″ Specialty Paper. You may think this paper looks sparkly in this photo, but I guarantee you, you will not believe how sparkly it is until you see it yourself! You can get it FREE with a $50 purchase during Sale-A-Bration through September, but don’t wait until the last minute in case they run out. Dazzling describes this paper well.

When you die-cut the Be Dazzling Paper, there is a note in the catalog that cutting glittered paper leads to dulling of the blades. I say take a chance and don’t worry too much about it. Maybe if you are going to cut the whole stack of paper with the same die, you might wear out your die. One thing I did with my pumpkin was tearing off the backing paper before die-cutting. That makes the glittered paper a little thinner and is a tip I learned a long time ago with specialty paper like this. It would also be wise to use the Adhesive Sheets on the back of the glittered paper so that the delicate design will already have adhesive on the back. Otherwise, just use teeny tiny drops of Multipurpose Liquid Glue on the back.

Now for the stamped pumpkins! I stamped the printed pumpkin with Pumpkin Pie Ink on Pumpkin Pie Cardstock. Then I used the die to cut it out. I also stamped the group of pumpkins on Pumpkin Pie but I cut them apart by hand and only used the small pumpkin. I also stamped two groups of leaves with Granny Apple Green Ink on Granny Apple Green Cardstock. After die-cutting them, I cut some of the leaves apart to make them fit how I wanted them. The greeting is stamped directly on the card in Pumpkin Pie Ink from the Pretty Pumpkins Stamp Set.

For a little bling, I also added a few 2021-23 In Color Jewels to fill in the space a little bit and add a little more sparkle! Your rhinestones and jewels don’t always have to match exactly as you can see. I doubt people pay attention to the exact color of the jewel as they do to the total look of the card with the sparkle. This Pretty Pumpkins Gather Together Fall Card has it all for fall!

Beautifully Penned Floral Tag Card

Beautifully Penned Floral Tag Card

You won’t believe where this Beautifully Penned Floral Tag Card came from! I opened the package of Beautifully Penned Paper that I got free during Sale-A-Bration on my recent order which is all black and white in design. I saw this design with the squiggly lines and I immediately thought it looked like a fun paper to use!

My first inclination was to color in between all the lines! But that might have taken a while so I pulled out different Stampin’ Blends and just drew ON the lines in between the lines! Sometimes I used the brush tip and sometimes the bullet tip, but I think the bullet tip is a little easier. I decided it did not have to be perfect. In fact, since the curves are irregular, your hand doesn’t get into a set pattern after coloring a few lines so each one is different. This paper is only available during Sale-A-Bration through September and coordinates with the Hand-Penned Designer Series Paper in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. You will find this Beautifully Penned 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper on page 7 of the Sale-A-Bration Brochure.

This paper with its black and white designs is perfect for coloring using various techniques! You can color with markers, Watercolor Pencils, Blender Pen and Ink, pastels, or Blending Brushes. Or just leave it as is and have a black and white card or add a splash of color by adding some colorful flowers or other designs. Just play!

This card has a card base of Polished Pink. Black would have been interesting, too, or a layer of black on the pink under the designer paper. Or vice versa. The tag is die-cut from the Tailor Made Tags Dies. The flowers are stamped with the Color & Contour Stamp Set and cut out with the Scalloped Contours Dies. The leaves I stamped and cut out by hand. The flowers are two-step stamping but the stamps don’t line up perfectly so don’t knock yourself out trying! The tag is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals as is the pink flower. I had a third flower stamped and die cut but I thought the tag would be too crowded with it, so I added a Basic White layer inside the card and adhered the third flower to the inside of the card! It’s fun to decorate the inside of cards. We should really do it more often!

These are the colors I used in Stampin’ Blends markers and also the ink. These colors are in order starting from the top of the card: Poppy Parade, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Polished Pink, Pool Party, and Flirty Flamingo.

The greeting is also in the Color & Contour Stamp Set, stamped in Polished Pink ink. And to finish the card, I added a bow tied with the Polished Pink 3/8″ Open Weave Ribbon. All of these new In Color ribbons are so pretty! I just love the style!

With every $50 you spend during Sale-A-Bration, you can choose a FREE product in the Sale-A-Bration Brochure. This Beautifully Penned Paper is available with a $50 purchase! What is better than free paper?!

What To Buy During Sale-A-Bration!

Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine Open catalog

www.KarenStamps.com

What should you buy during Sale-A-Bration while you can earn a free product for every $50 you spend? If I didn’t already have one, I would surely purchase the new Stampin’ Up! Cut & Emboss Machine! It has been years ago that Stampin’ Up! came out with the Big Shot, our first die-cutting machine. I don’t know what we did before we had that! And now, we have an even better (and prettier!) machine, this Stampin’ Cut & Emboss!

There are SO many sets of dies and embossing folders, and now even some embossing folders that work as dies. It adds so much more to your cardmaking and projects. Some of the die sets even have extra little pieces that are just fun to use with your creations.

This new machine cuts even easier and better, in my opinion, than the Big Shot. It even has the convenient benefit of folding up the platform to save space during storage (if yours is ever in storage! I use mine almost every day!). The pieces that make up the “sandwich” are numbered so you know which ones to use when, depending on if you are just die-cutting or embossing.

The price for the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine is $120.00. That is why I am suggesting you purchase it now during Sale-A-Bration if you have been considering it! If you add on some dies or embossing folders, to reach $150, you will be able to choose 3 FREE products in the Sale-A-Bration Brochure! Or another choice would be one product at the $100 Level and one more at the $50 Level. This is in addition to Stampin’ Rewards of 10% of your merchandise. That means another $15 or more free merchandise in any current products. This all makes this purchase a LOT more advantageous for you and the price point a lot more tolerable! It’s not a frivolous purchase, but I feel certain you will get a lot of use out of it and really step up your creative options.

Another option, for space considerations, price, or “cuteness”, is the Mini Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. Why are smaller things so cute?! This small machine has a 3 1/2″ platform and will fit the smaller dies and embossing folders. The price of this machine is $60. Even with this machine, you can earn one FREE Sale-A-Bration product, although you might also want some of the dies and embossing folders to go with it and that might earn you another free Sale-A-Bration product. While I think this Mini Machine is adorable and convenient if you “travel” with your machine, whether on trips or retreats or gathering with friends to stamp, I know you will have a lot more options with the full-size machine. If you have the full-size machine, maybe you want the Mini for portability as I stated.

Sale-A-Bration runs through September 30, 2021 so you have a lot of time. However, if there are particular Sale-A-Bration items you would like to earn, there are some that may not be able to be supplied by the end of Sale-A-Bration and therefore will not be restocked once they run out. So the early bird gets the worm!

Sale-A-Bration has been around since the beginning or near the beginning of Stampin’ Up, except back then it was called “Sell-A-Bration”. We only had it starting in January before, but right now we are having the second one in 2021! And at a perfect time when we are purchasing new products anyway in the Holiday Catalog!

The concept of Sale-A-Bration is that when you spend $50 or more, you get to choose a FREE product in the Sale-A-Bration Brochure! And we all love FREE stamping supplies! Counting Sheep Sale-A-Bration Card

Counting Sheet Sale-A-Bration Card

The stamp set and the dies used on this Counting Sheep Sale-A-Bration Card are ones that everyone can earn FREE during Sale-A-Bration at Stampin’ Up! What is Sale-A-Bration? It’s a favorite, annual promotion of Stampin’ Up! where you can earn a free Sale-A-Bration product for every $50 that you purchase. No limits! Normally Sale-A-Bration only happens once a year, in January, but this year for the first time we are having a second Sale-A-Bration now in August through September! How exciting!

During Sale-A-Bration, with a $50 purchase, you can choose this Counting Sheep Stamp Set (156591) and stamp all kinds of cute cards with these delightful sheep! If you spend another $50, you just might want to choose the Sheep Dies (156600) FREE also coordinate with the Counting Sheep Stamp Set. The dies not only cut out the sheep and the little party hat, but they also come with a fence, a flag, a balloon, clouds, and a sun! So cute, I think!! I tried to use as many things on this card to show you as I could!

I stamped all three styles of sheep with Memento Ink and then added just a tiny bit of gray color and shading on the sheep with Stampin’ Blends. I actually stamped three of each kind of sheep and die-cut them just to have a bunch of sheep ready to use! I love the fence die! I used Crumb Cake Cardstock but I also cut out some from Soft Suede.

The card base is Pool Party cardstock with a layer of Basic White. I used my Blending Brush to pick up some Pool Party Ink for the sky and Granny Apple Green for the grass. I’m still learning how to best use these Blending Brushes correctly! If you don’t have them yet, you can use Sponge Daubers or an old Stampin’ Sponge you may have. I also stamped some grass on the bottom green part.

I just placed the clouds in the sky plus the cute sun, and then played with the sheep and the fence to get them where I liked them. A couple of sheep are popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals. The greeting is in the Counting Sheep Stamp Set. I die cut it with one of the many choices on the Messages Die. You don’t always have to stamp all the greetings and die-cut them all. Just place a scrap of paper under the one die you want to use and run it through the Stampin’ Up! Cut & Emboss Machine! To save some space, I cut a sliver off the right side of the greeting so I could slide it up against the edge of the card.

There are so many cute animal stamps in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog, the Holiday Mini, and now the sheep in the Sale-A-Bration Brochure! I think these sheep are going to be a lot of fun for cardmaking and other projects, even baby cards! When you get your Stampin’ Up! order in during Sale-A-Bration I know you will have fun choosing which FREE item you want!

Peaceful Prints Deer and Trees Christmas Card

Peaceful Prints Deer and Trees Christmas Card

My inspiration for this Peaceful Prints Deer and Trees Christmas Card came from a sample in the Sale-A-Bration 2021 Brochure! Sale-A-Bration begins August 3 along with the Holiday Mini Catalog so it will be a great time to shop! With every $50 you spend, you can choose a free product in the Sale-A-Bration Brochure!

This card uses a really new product that we have never had before! In fact, I didn’t know it even existed! Cork Specialty Paper! I knew I was going to use the Peaceful Prints Designer Series Paper which is a product you can choose free in the Sale-A-Bration Brochure with a $50 purchase! I knew I was going to cut out two of the deer, by hand, on the paper and use the deer something like in a sample on that page. In the Holiday Mini, you can purchase a punch that I believe will cut out some of the deer on this designer paper, of course only the deer looking in one direction.

The card base is Real Red. Then I got the idea to use a piece of the Cork Paper for the first time for a background layer and I added a layer of Basic Black behind it to match the plaid on the deer. I cut the two deer out by hand from the Peaceful Prints Paper, leaving a small white margin around them. Someone said to do that at a Stampin’ Up! Convention years ago, I guess it makes cutting easier and you don’t have to be perfect! But when I flipped the paper over to put glue on it, the other side of the paper was the red and black plaid, so I just as easily could have had deer with no white margin around them! So funny! I used Stampin’ Seal to glue down the cork and the black layers onto the card. It seemed to work fine on the Cork Paper. The Cork Paper is surprisingly very thin! It’s amazing!

The trees are stamped from the Whimsical Trees Stamp Set and die cut with one of the dies in the Christmas Trees Dies. I die cut one just plain green and sponged some ink on it for interest. You can buy both the Stamp Set and Dies together in the Whimsical Trees Bundle and save 10%! (see pages 24-25 in the Holiday Catalog). I adhered two tree trees flat on the cork paper and one is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals. Then both deer are popped up on Dimensionals, except the one on the left overlaps the tree which is already popped up so I only put a Dimensional under his rear and the front end is glued down to the tree!

The greeting is in the Whimsical Trees Stamp Set. I stamped it in Real Red Ink and die cut with a die in the Stitched So Sweetly Dies. You might not recognize which one because I trimmed off the top and bottom rounded edges so I could layer it on a Real Red piece cut with the exact same die. Really, you can’t recognize either of them the way the top one covers up the bottom layer, but at least I got two colors for the greeting!

On the inside of the card, I added a Basic White layer, adhered a strip of the red and black plaid design at the bottom, and also adhered another die-cut tree! Then I can stamp or write a message on the inside on the white cardstock!

This was a fun card to make as I went along! I started by looking at the sample that looks like a tag in the Sale-A-Bration Brochure and came up with this card! Just play when you are stamping and see what you come up with! Maybe you will choose this Peaceful Prints DSP when you place a $50 order during Sale-A-Bration so you can make something like this Peaceful Prints Deer and Trees Christmas Card.

Easy Sale-A-Bration Paper Blooms Gift Bag

Easy Sale-A-Bration Paper Blooms Gift Bag

I like to recommend that stampers and papercrafters make some gift bags to have on hand like this Easy Sale-A-Bration Paper Blooms Gift Bag. It just might save you a last minute trip to the store when you want a cute gift wrap for a small gift or treat! It probably only takes about 5 minutes to make an easy gift bag and you can personalize it for the recipient or for the occasion.

When I looked through the Paper Blooms Designer Series Paper in the Sale-A-Bration Brochure, I assumed it would be all florals with some plain designs on the back. But this sheet of paper really caught my eye with these big circles of various colors all over the sheet! It looked so fun and I thought making a gift bag would be a good way to use it.

To make this gift bag, start with half a sheet of designer paper, 12″ x 6″. Using your Paper Trimmer or Simply Scored scoring board, score the paper going across at 3 1/2″, 5 1/2″, 9″ and 11″. Then turn the paper and score at 1 1/4″ and 5 1/2″. Pay attention to the design on your paper so it doesn’t come out upside down. If you are planning to turn that narrow scored area at 5 1/2″ (which leaves 1/2″ to turn down for the top edge and reveal the paper design on the inside), make sure that pattern is also going to work and go in the proper direction.

After scoring, cut on the score lines at the bottom up to the score lines going across. Cut off the smallest little area on the bottom of the bag flaps. You’ll see which part it is. That will leave a 1/2″ edge to adhere to the other side of the bag. Assemble the bag. I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue for that “wiggle room” it gives you but the Stampin’ Seal+ would also be good.

If you like, punch holes in the top edge and tie some ribbon through for little handles. I used the Seaside Spray 1/4″ Metallic Ribbon.

Here’s another gift bag I made a couple of years ago, decorated a little differently to give you another idea.

To decorate the bag a little bit, although it was cute as it was, I cut out some flowers from another sheet of the Paper Blooms Paper. These were easy flowers to cut out and I only needed these two!

If you like this paper, you can get it free with a $50 Stampin’ Up! purchase if you choose it for your Sale-A-Bration FREE product. Be sure to shop by Sunday, February 28th!

This is a quick and easy project to make with this paper. Follow these directions for this Easy Sale-A-Bration Paper Blooms Gift Bag and then you can make even more gift bags with other paper in your stash!

Flower & Field Red Floral Thank You Card

Flower & Field Red Floral Thank You Card

I may have mentioned before that I LOVE this designer paper on this Flower & Field Red Floral Thank You Card. The best part is that you can earn it FREE during Sale-A-Bration! This is an easy card design, you can change it up a little bit and still use the basic design and layout.

Sale-A-Bration is a special promotion from Stampin’ Up! that happens every year! With each $50 you spend on any Stampin’ Up! products, you can choose a free product in the Sale-A-Bration brochure. If you spend $100, you can choose from special Level 2 choices, or choose two Level 1 ($50) products. No limits!

This is the Flower & Field Designer Series Paper and you’ll find it on page 10 in the Sale-A-Bration Brochure! You can choose it FREE with a $50 purchase of Stampin’ Up! products. I just love the colors of this paper on the black background! There are many colors that coordinate with this paper. It doesn’t list Real Red but I used that on another card here and liked it just fine.

For this card, I started with a card base of Poppy Parade. Before adhering the paper to the card, I added some Bumblebee 1/4″ Gingham Ribbon and tied on a bow. I think this ribbon is really cute with this paper! I stamped the greeting from the Peaceful Moments Stamp Set in Poppy Parade Ink. the greeting is then die cut with a stitched, scalloped rectangle from the Stitched So Sweetly Dies. Rather than find one to layer this diecut on, I took the easy way out and just cut a rectangle layer of So Saffron to layer behind the greeting!

That’s all there is to this card! I love to use a piece of really pretty designer paper this way, with it being the focal point of the card.

We have just one month left of Stampin’ Up! Sale-A-Bration! If you like this Flower & Field Red Floral Thank You Card, you might want to grab a package of this paper with your $50 order!

Flower & Field Just For You Card

Flower & Field Just For You Card

I absolutely love this paper I used on this Flower & Field Just For You Card! And you can get it FREE during Sale-A-Bration 2021! Can you believe we are already half way through Sale-A-Bration?!

This is really an easy card to make. I decided I actually liked Real Red for a card base for this card, even though it’s not one of the coordinating colors. Just like my card the other day, I really like the red, black, and the tiny bit of white on this paper.

The first paper I wanted to use out of this Flower & Field Designer Series Paper was this pattern with a black background with yellow, red, and white flowers. But when I turned it over, I also loved the yellow polka dot design on the other side! So on this card, I used both sides of the same paper! I used a Real Red card base with a layer of the yellow polka dot paper. Then I added a strip of the floral side.

Before adhering the designer paper to the card base, I adhered a piece of the Bumblebee 2000-2022 In Color Ribbon around the designer paper. For something different, I tied on three knots of the ribbon instead of a bow.

The greeting is from the Sweet Strawberry Stamp Set, in the January-June 2021 Mini Catalog. If you like you can bundle the stamp set with the Strawberry Builder Punch and save 10%. I used the small circle die in the Tasteful Labels Dies. For a little embellishment, I cut out a group of the red flowers on the designer series paper by hand and adhered it behind the popped up greeting.
