All Is Bright Christmas Ornament Card

All Is Bright Christmas Ornament Card

This All Is Bright Christmas Ornament Card actually sends an ornament to the recipient!  Maybe it is just a little paper ornament attached to the front of this card, but you never know!  Someone might be happy to save it and hang it on their tree next year! I remember growing up we knew a couple who were very wealthy and their Christmas card always had something on it that could be saved as an ornament! It was a very expensive card!

My card is not very expensive but I think it does have a rich look to it!  I turned the greeting into an ornament by leaving it unattached from the card and adhering a ribbon to it which is tucked in over the top edge of the card layer. If a person wanted to, they could tear open that top part of the card and remove the ribbon from the back…..or they could simply cut off the ribbon at the top of the card and separate it from the card like that.

The card base is Whisper White cardstock with a layer of Gold Glimmer Paper. If you want to save a bit of the glimmer paper, cut out the center portion, essentially making a frame of gold glimmer to adhere to the Whisper White card base. Just make sure you make it wide enough! Nobody will ever know!  Then I layered on a piece of the All Is Bright Designer Series Paper with the pretty ornaments. On a scrap piece of Whisper White, I stamped the images from the stamp set Making Christmas Bright in Versamark Ink and heat embossed with Gold Embossing Powder using the Heat Tool. This is punched out with the 2″ Circle Punch even though it is a close fit, and then layered on a piece of Gold Glimmer Paper punched out with the 2 1/4″ Circle Punch.  The beautiful ribbon is the Gold 3/8″ Metallic-Edge RibbonThe bow is tied and attached separately and held in place with several Glue Dots.

Take a look at another card I made using this ornament pattern from the All Is Bright DSP.

If you don’t want the “free-swinging” ornament, then just tack it down with some Stampin’ Dimensionals.  See if you can think of another card design that would leave the recipient with an ornament to be saved! It’s time to have fun making these special Christmas cards for friends and loved ones!

Stampin’ Up! Christmas Decorations: Oldies But Goodies!

Christmas Sampler

As I was decorating our Christmas tree and the house yesterday, I came across several of my past Stampin’ Up! creations from years past. Many of my decorations are handmade ones from all the years before I discovered stamping.

Like many of us who got into stamping, we also did and do lots of other crafts. I have wooden ornaments I painted, glass wine bottles I painted with snowmen, styrofoam ornaments covered with sequins, macrame, counted cross-stitch ornaments and small wall-hangings, Santa dolls, fabric wall-hangings, tons of stuff! Not to mention the ornaments and things my kids made through the years including a nativity made from a paper bag and stickers on popsicle sticks from pre-school!

Above you see my first Christmas sampler (that should be framed but isn’t!). Perhaps one from another holiday is framed and I intended to just change out the samplers for each holiday. People are still making samplers like this, even better, for every holiday and occasion for home decor and gifts.

Glitter Ornament

These decorated ornaments were popular when I became a demonstrator.  It’s just a clear glass ornament with several drops of reinker rolled around inside until the entire inside of the ornament was covered. For an added touch, I dropped some Dazzling Diamonds Glitter inside.  The snowflakes on the outside I believe are rub-ons that we sold at some point.

Frosty Ornament

This was once another very popular way to make an ornament! And it is FROSTY inside!  Anyone who has been around Stampin’ Up! for a while recognizes Frosty!  We could not believe it when they retired the Frosty Stamp Set! It was probably one of the first stamp sets I purchased from Stampin’ Up! For this ornament, we cut a window sheet in a circle with a little tab on top to fit into the ornament hole to hold it in place, stamped on it, then rolled it up small enough to put inside the ornament hole.  Once inside it would open up and relatively stay in place. I added some “snow” and some gold paper strips for decoration.

Paper Star Boxes Kit

These star boxes were from a Stampin’ Up! kit a few years ago, the Many Merry Stars Kit.  The kit made a TON of star boxes.  Some of them open with lids, others are just 3D.  There are several that are VERY large.  These are just three of the boxes. They could be used as gift boxes or as decorations. This post shows some of the boxes.

Stampin' Up! Ornaments Past Kits

These ornaments were made from two different kits.  The blue ornament on the left is made from the Stampin’ Up! Festive Flurry Ornament Kit. Here is a post with a video about the kit.  The ornament on the right is from the Ornamental Elegance Kit.  It graced the cover of the Holiday catalog a few years ago. Here is a post about that kit.

Emellished Christmas Box

Out of many of my Christmas decorations, this box is one of my favorites!  I remember seeing it on display at one of the Stampin’ Up! conventions I attended. It was called the Christmas Keepsake Project Kit.  Shelli and Sara made a video together (or maybe it was a live event,  I don’t remember, that showed how to embellish the box with all the pieces and decorations.  I think it stands the test of time and is still very beautiful. I think I made extras for gifts.

Think about Christmas decorations and decor items you can stamp to have as keepsakes through the years.  It’s always fun to open the Christmas boxes and be reminded of all the memories our ornaments and decorations provide as we decorate for the Christmas holidays!

Enjoy Some Happiness With a Stampin’ Up! Theme Song!

This was the 30th Anniversary theme song, “Love, Live, & Share It Today” for the recent Stampin’ Up! OnStage convention in Orlando in November. One of the composers was Rett Christensen, a Stampin’ Up! employee, who also won the employee Heart of Stampin’ Up! award.  His son has autism and he suggested making the past and present theme songs available for purchase and donating the proceeds to Autism organizations.

Whether or not you would like to purchase this theme song or others, please enjoy this very cute video!!

Christmas Decorations on Table

No stamping for me until I get these unpacked Christmas decorations hung on the tree or placed somewhere around the house!  I have way too many but most have memories attached! In my wildest dreams I’d like to make some scrapbook pages about my Christmas decorations! Someday!

Making Little Paper Angels

Paper Angels

Somehow I came across a YouTube video that showed how to make these little paper angels, and I couldn’t resist trying them!

The person in the video uses origami paper, which I can see would make things a little easier since it is thin, so I thought I should try designer paper rather than cardstock.  I pulled out some retired designer paper, not knowing if this attempt was going to be a success on the first try or not! But I think it turned out pretty well!  I was not nearly as perfect and precise as the person in the video and there are no measurements in English.  So I had to wing it!

I started with a piece of designer paper that was 5″ x 5″ and cut it in half because the angel is made with two halves glued together.  My first attempt was the white angel on the right.  I scored the length of that paper every 1/4″ and accordion-folded it.  That’s pretty narrow, but it does make the angel look a little fuller in the end.  The green angel is scored at 1/2″.  After accordion-folding you have to fold down a portion to make the angel wings.  That’s really the hard part because the paper is quite bulky then.  But it can be done.

You could use narrow ribbon for this next part of making the angel hanger and gluing the two halves together, but in following the origami video I just cut a very narrow slice of Whisper White cardstock. You will see in the video, but make a loop for the top and then the ends get adhered between the two halves, forming the angel body.  On the first angel, I also made the bow out of a very narrow strip of paper.  On the second I just used ribbon.

After gluing the two halves together, you also add a dab of glue under those wings to attach them to the body. Then you can “fluff” the accordion folds to make the skirt and the wings.  For this size angels, I just punched 4 “faces” with the 1″ Circle Punch.  That loop that forms the hanger can be flattened out down by the angel so you can glue the angel face onto both the front and the back with the loop in between.

Maybe you have made these angels as a child.  They are easy and fun to make and you can make them as fancy or plain as you like!  Just a little something for the holidays to decorate a package or make as an ornament.  Just have some fun trying the angels!

Here is the video I watched to learn how to make them:

Remember, today is the LAST DAY to purchase the Snowflake Showcase stamps, die, and Snowflake Trinkets!

Make a Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Gift Bag

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Gift Bag

I have to re-introduce one of my most popular posts on my blog, this Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Gift Bag!  Every time Pinterest sends me an email about my most popular pins, this one is almost always on it!  I actually made this three years ago but  I put the watermark on it last year. It’s such a simple thing to make and might be just the thing you need this time of year!

You probably already have a kraft shopping bag like this one in your house somewhere, but if not, you can buy a package of them at the craft store.  Then you are ready to go when you have an occasion you need a gift bag for.

This is how I made this Rudolph gift bag:

I made a great big red nose for Rudolph with the Red Glimmer Paper, punched with the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch. The eyes are punched with the 1 3/4″ Circle Punch and the 1″ Circle Punch.  For the antlers, I came up with punching the tree branch with the Tree Builder Punch (the one that coordinates with the Ronald McDonald stamp set, Sprinkles of Life).  I punched four branches or trees and trimmed the ends of two of them so I could glue one behind the other to look like antlers.  Since they are rather delicate being so thin, I didn’t have them pop up from the top of the bag or they would probably get bent up pretty easily, so I just glued them to the top corners of the gift bag. And for a little extra color, and to resemble the candy canes, I tied on a bow with the Real Red 1/8″ Striped Ribbon.

Obviously a couple of these products are retired but I’m sure you can find something else to use!

Another year I made a smaller Rudolph gift bag with the Mini Treat Bag dies HERE.  It’s just a fun and easy design to have fun with!

Take a few minutes and make this Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Gift Bag so you will be ready for the holiday gifts!

Signs of Santa Z-Fold Christmas Card

Signs of Santa Z-Fold Christmas Card

This Signs of Santa Z-Fold Christmas Card is a fun card for the holidays!  Z-Fold cards look so impressive, I think, yet are SO easy to make! The Signs of Santa Photopolymer Stamp Set IS still available to purchase even though most everything else in the Santa’s Workshop Suite sold out.

To make a Z-Fold card, simply make a basic card, but then score the front of the card at the center mark (2 1/8″) and fold back. Stamp a circle, square, or oval shape to adhere to the front and you’ve got it!  When stamping a greeting inside, make sure it is completely hidden by whatever you put on the front.

I used the striped flocked pattern in the Santa’s Workshop Specialty Designer Series Paper which is no longer available, but perhaps you already purchased it! Just a little bit of it on each side of the card added a little something, but not too much.  If you don’t own this paper, just choose something else that matches your colors. Or skip the designer paper element!

I stamped the Santa with his list, the elf and the North Pole sign using Memento Ink and then colored in with various colors of Stampin’ Blends Markers.  I LOVE these markers and doing coloring and blending with them.  They are die cut with the coordinating framelit dies, which are also sold out.

Certain Stampin’ Blends Markers (plus regular Stampin’ Write Markers!) are available TODAY on the Online Extravaganza page in the Online Store.  Today is the last day for the Extravaganza!

I die cut a large Whisper White circle (sponged with a little Balmy Blue) and a larger scalloped circle out of Shaded Spruce for the focal point of the card and popped up the Santa and elf with Stampin’ Dimensionals®.  The little North Pole sign I just glued right to the card so it could be seen from the front or inside.

Try your hand at a Z-Fold card if you haven’t already.  Any time they are fun, but even if you make a lot of them for your Christmas cards, they won’t be any more trouble than a regular card and will look like you made a masterpiece!

Cyber Monday! Save on Stampin’ Up! Stamp Sets & Kits!

Hearts Come Home Christmas Card

It’s Cyber Monday and the Stampin’ Up! Online Extravaganza is going on today with 10% off Annual Catalog Stamp Sets and Kits! Today is the last day of the two-day sale.  Tomorrow and the next day will be Tools & Ink.  Quantities are limited so shop early!

Here is a Christmas card I made using the Hearts Come Home stamp set, which is on the Online Extravaganza today.  The card base is Real Red and I decided to emboss it with the Swirls & Curls Embossing Folder in the Holiday Catalog.  I could have left the card plain, it looked fine the way it was.

I did cut a circle with the Layering Circle Framelits Dies and layered that on the largest scalloped circle die of Old Olive. Then I stamped on the circle with a house and some trees plus a greeting and Santa and his sleigh (who could resist putting that on there!).  The trees I stamped and then stamped again without re-inking for a few to look more like a little forest. (Also, I was covering up a little stray ink spot!)  For a finishing touch, I added a little white bow with the Whisper White 1/8″ Sheer Ribbon.

Look through the stamp sets and the cardmaking kits offered on the Online Extravaganza today and see if there are any you have been wanting or “need”!  Add on any other products you want as well.

What Crafting Do You Plan to Do This Thanksgiving Weekend?

Craft Supplies

What crafting do you plan to do this Thanksgiving weekend??  In my wildest dreams, I plan on doing tons of papercrafting starting the day after Thanksgiving!  Doesn’t it sound heavenly?! But we’ll see!  There’s always…..”I’ll just do this first!”

I want to make Christmas cards, I hope to heavens my Paper Pumpkin Kit comes in the mail today because I know it has been sitting in a Houston post office somewhere for days now (Grrrr!!), make some framed projects I intended to make LAST YEAR, and then I bought all these things from a couple of craft stores!!!  The question will be can I find the samples again that I liked so much!  I know I should pin them to even a Secret Pinterest board, but I don’t always.

The clear plastic half balls are to make a little scene inside and then have a flat back out of cardstock or thin cardboard on the back. I don’t even know if I bought the right thing. I’ve seen some cute ornaments made out of what look like slices of a tree trunk, sometimes REAL slices from a REAL tree, so I bought these little wood things. And the other day I saw some really cute decorated wreaths that caused me to make a quick trip to the craft store and get the last box the lady could find! I don’t remember what the wreaths looked like but hopefully, I will find it again!

Whatever you have planned for Thanksgiving, I hope you will find some time for yourself to enjoy some holiday stamping and crafting!  It might be impossible with the family home and all those distractions, but maybe if my husband and son put up the Christmas lights outside I can stay inside and do my own thing!

Remember there will be a Stampin’ Up! sale starting Black Friday through November 28. It will cover “most” (but not all) products in the Annual Catalog at 10% off. Snowman Gift Bag

Snowman Gift Bag

One of my favorite stamping projects to do is to recycle a gift bag I may have received in a store and decorate it for a certain occasion.  You can also buy a package of these handled gift bags at the craft store. This white bag was perfect to make a Snowman Gift Bag!

I made this bag just a little fancier than you would need to, but I was having fun! Depending on your bag size, you will have to figure out your own measurements for the pieces on the bag.  I punched two eyes with the 1 1/4″ Circle Punch and the mouth pieces with the 3/4″ Circle Punch.  I snipped off edges of the circles to make them look a little bit like pieces of coal. The carrot nose is just cut by hand from a Pumpkin Pie Cardstock scrap.

For the scarf and the hat band, I used the Buffalo Check Stamp (a large background stamp).  It is black ink stamped on Real Red Cardstock.  Yes, it is a little tricky to get the larger piece of cardstock stamped with the Buffalo Check stamp and keep everything lined up but just fool around with it, you can do it!  And it doesn’t have to be perfect! My snowman’s scarf is 1 1/4″ x 7 3/4″. Then I cut two smaller pieces and a circle to make something that looks like the scarf tied in a knot. I added one of the Gold Faceted Gems just for some bling.

The snowman’s cheeks are two 1 1/2″ circles punched from the Sparkle Glimmer Paper.  To make it pink, I picked up some Real Red ink with a lot of water from my Aqua Painter and colored the Glimmer Paper.

I really wanted a hat on my snowman bag so I cut a 2 1/2″ x 9″ piece of Basic Black Cardstock for the brim and another smaller piece, 4 1/4″ x 4 1/2″ for the hat. It extends beyond the top of the bag, but there is still room to grab the handles.  I added a strip of the stamped Buffalo Check Real Red Cardstock for the hat bang and a few sprigs of Garden Green Cardstock from the Sprig Punch.  A few berries are punched with the small circles on the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch.

Look through your bag of bags or in your craft stash and see if you don’t have some kraft shopping bags that you can decorate one way or another.  Even if they have the store printing on them, you likely will cover that up with paper anyway.

Here is a Rudolph Gift Bag I made a while back and has been quite popular in this post.  This gives you another idea for something you can make for the holidays.

Try decorating a few gift bags, maybe like this Snowman Gift Bag, to give to special people who will appreciate your efforts!!

Turkey Sour Cream Treat Holder For Thanksgiving

Turkey Sour Cream Treat Holder For Thanksgiving

I believe “sour cream treat holders” have been a staple since I started stamping so here is my Turkey Sour Cream Treat Holder!  The basic concept is that this simple little treat holder is shaped like sour cream packets come in/used to come in??  The top side is closed one direction and the bottom side is closed another direction.  They are very simple to make and very popular in the papercrafting world!  You can make them for lots of occasions and decorate them to look like lots of different characters like this turkey.  On Pinterest (of course!) I also saw a Pilgrim and an Indian that were very cute for Thanksgiving.

Turkey Sour Cream Treat Holder Side View

Here is the turkey sour cream treat holder from the side.  Just be sure to put your treat inside before you seal up each end!  If you have a paper crimper like we used to sell but you can probably still buy in a craft store, it is handy to use that along with adhesive to close up those ends, and it looks very decorative.  I didn’t use mine on this turkey.

Here is a diagram from a past sour cream container in this post if you need more directions:

Make a Sour Cream Container with Tape

Make a roll out of the paper and adhere along the side.

Make a Sour Cream Container Roll

After adhering one end, pinch closed the opposite end going the other direction (after putting in your treat!).

Make a Sour Cream Container Other End

To decorate the turkey, die cut or punch some paper feathers.  I used the leaf die in the Nature’s Roots dies.  You can use any left shape or punch out ovals in different colors.  The beak is just a hand-cut triangle over a fold.  The waddle is just a die-cut heart or you can use a punch or just cut one out!  For the eyes, just punch out two circles, like with the 1/2″ Circle Punch and then two smaller circles from the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch.

So simple and yet you end up with a cute treat for Thanksgiving!

Be sure to check out the list of “Low Inventory” products from the Holiday Catalog that could potentially sell out soon.

Thanksgiving Pumpkin Favor

Thanksgiving Pumpkin Favor

If you are looking for a cute little favor for Thanksgiving, look no further than this Thanksgiving Pumpkin Favor.  It is just a little box in between two of the largest scalloped circle die-cuts and then decorated.

I started with making the little box. This is the size that worked to fit behind the scalloped circles die cut with the Layering Circle Framelits Dies.  When the Big Shot first came out, we had a BIG scalloped circle steel die, so if you used that your box would need to be larger but I think you could easily do the calculations from this template.  You could also use any circle if you didn’t have these dies.  Here is the template for the little box.  The paper is 4 1/2″ x 4 1/4″.

Thanksgiving Pumpkin Favor Template

With the 4 1/4″ side up at the top of your Stampin’ Trimmer or Simply Scored Tool, score at 1″ from each side.  Turn the paper so the 4 1/2″ side is up at the top.  Score at 1 3/4″ and 2 3/4″.  Then cut those flaps just up to the score line as you see in the photo.  I like to cut mine on a slight angle to that bulky scored area doesn’t interfere with how the flaps fit together.

For the pumpkin pieces, as you see in the photo, I first die cut with the largest scallop circle, then ran it through the Swirls & Curls Embossing Folder.  I think you could use almost any embossing folder, just to give the paper a little texture and interest.  To get the flat bottom, although perhaps you could leave the circle whole, I marked one scallop and then I counted over 14 scallops and cut from one mark to another.  That made the two circles even and matching.

After assembling the box, just glue the pumpkin pieces on each side.  The handle was about 7″ long.  I just glued inside but it might be nicer to adhere it to the box before adhering the pumpkin sides.  Or use ribbon!

To embellish, I die cut various leaves in a couple of green colors, yellow, and orange, even Gold Shimmer Paper.  I used the Seasonal Layers Dies and the Rooted in Nature Dies.  Use whatever you have.  I cut a variety so I could play and see which leaves I wanted to put on the pumpkin.  If I made another favor I can use my extra leaves.  I tied a bow with the new 3/16″ Braided Linen Trim and adhered it with a Mini Glue Dot.

For a Thanksgiving greeting, I turned to the Itty Bitty Greetings Stamp Set, invaluable, in my opinion!  I stamped the “gratitude” saying and cut out with the Classic Label Punch.  I also made a flagged end with that punch. Then I just put some glue on the back of the one end and stuck it underneath the leaf.

I’m really happy how my Thanksgiving Pumpkin Favor turned out and I have filled it with candy and am taking it to someone this afternoon!
