It’s time for some Witchy Home Decor! ‘Tis the season for decorating your home! Only 10 more days until Halloween! If you need a cute little decoration for your home or a little gift for someone, you’ve got to make something like this votive candle holder! It’s easy and you can make one in any style you like!

Look around your house and find a small votive holder that you almost certainly have in your house somewhere. If you don’t have an official votive holder, maybe you have a glass jar or a small glass vase. Then decide on what kind of decoration you want on the front of it.

I used the Best Witches Stamp Set, which I love for Halloween. I stamped the witch and her broom with Memento ink on Basic White cardstock and colored her in with Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. You can choose whatever witchy colors you like! Or if you don’t have or don’t want a witch, use a pumpkin or black cat or whatever you have. Wrap a piece of designer series around the votive. Make it whatever width you want. Either you can join the ends in the back or you can join the ends in the front and then cover it with your main image. The witch I had to cut out by hand with Paper Snips because this stamp set has no dies.

Here’s one I made last year with the Cute Halloween Designer Paper. I just wrapped a ribbon around the glass votive holder instead of designer paper and I decorated each side. So easy and so much fun!

When your creation is finished just put a small candle inside, or better yet, a flameless votive for safety. You can change out the decorations on your votive holder for every season!

Christmas Votive Home Decor

If you want to make a quick and easy gift for someone or even just a little decoration for your home, make a glass votive holder into a decorated piece of home decor for yourself or someone else! You probably even have a votive holder somewhere around your house or you can pick one up at almost any store.

Last year I made one with the retired Buffalo Check Background stamp with black ink on Real Red cardstock. I really loved the look. This year it seems like a black and white check is quite popular so I redid the votive holder. I found a piece of black and white check paper in the Pattern Party Designer Series Paper that is available free as Host Reward in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. Of course, you will have to judge the size of paper you need to use for your votive holder. Mine is about 2 1/2″ wide and wraps around the glass. If the glass tapers a little bit at the bottom the paper won’t fit around perfectly but that’s okay. Wrap it around as well as you can. I also tied a Real Red ribbon around to hold the paper in place. You can simply tie a bow, or for Christmas, I added some bits of artificial greenery and red berries. You could add a tag with a greeting or name, a little wreath instead of the greenery, maybe a small ornament, whatever you like and have in your stash!

Add a small votive candle or tea light and you have a cute little gift for someone! Wrap it up or put it in a cello bag and tie it with a ribbon. Just the presentation can take the gift up a few notches!

Christmas is coming VERY soon now, but it’s fun to make a few things for gifts or your own decorations for the holidays! This is the time of year we have looked forward to all year! Take some time to make those things you wanted to “get around” to making!

Buffalo Check Decorated Candle

I was watching someone’s Instagram “story” and saw in her home these black and white buffalo check candles. I think black and white is trendy in some Christmas home decorations this year. It gave me the idea to decorate a glass candle holder I had with a red and black buffalo check which is a little more traditional.

If you have a real candle, a flameless candle (even better), or a votive or candle holder of some kind, you can decorate it with your papercrafting supplies. We can do so much with our stamping supplies! That is why it is such a great hobby!

I haven’t used it in awhile, but I got out my Buffalo Check Stamp. This is a large background stamp, as we used to call them. You can purchase either the “cling” or the “wood-mount”. If you choose the cling, you need the largest acrylic block on which to mount it. I have always liked to use my background stamp stamp-side up, ink it up, and then lay the cardstock I am stamping on top of it. Then I take a scrap paper to cover the cardstock so I can rub all over with my fingers to make sure every area gets inked up.

This stamp was a little tricky but I got lucky! Obviously I wanted to line up the pattern going around the strip of cardstock that was going to go around my votive holder and it worked! Somehow I managed to lay down the strip in just the right place, at least close enough.

For decoration, I wrapped around a piece of Real Red Satin Ribbon and then tied on some pieces of greenery I had in my craft stash. I also had some of those red berries that I stuck in there. Maybe I could have added some other embellishments I have but I stopped with this. I could also have added a greeting on the candle. You can do so much with a project like this yet keep it very simple.

Look around your house and surely you will find some votive holders or maybe vases or who knows what that you can decorate for the holidays for little decorations in your home or maybe on your holiday dinner table. Here’s another votive holder I decorated by cutting out images from the fall Gilded Autumn Designer Series Paper. Just use your imagination and you will come up with a fun decoration for a Christmas candle or votive or even to give one as a gift!

Gather Together Fall Votive Holder

We can do so many things with all our Stampin’ Up! products and supplies and papercrafting skills, like making a piece of home decor such as this Gather Together Fall Votive Holder. I think the colors and items of fall just inspire us so much, like pumpkins, leaves, gourds, mums, scarecrows, and more. That’s what makes it so fun, especially getting relief from the heat of summer!

You can easily make something like this, probably with something you already have in your house, or you can make it for a gift for someone. All you have to do is add a candle inside or one of the flameless ones to be extra safe. If you are using a real candle, make sure the paper is nowhere near the top of the votive holder.

It’s funny how I can start a project with one idea in mind and then come up with something totally unplanned. I almost don’t need to tell you how to make this exactly because I’m sure you have something very similar in your stash and can use what you have.

I started with a checked strip of the Come To Gather Designer Series Paper. When you are using glass, it would be nice if you can to use something that also looks good on the inside since it will be able to be seen. Although unplanned, this strip happens to have the same pumpkins on the opposite side which you can see through the inside of the glass that I used on the decoration.

I started out thinking I was just going to do something with colored leaves but it’s hard to resist the siren call of the beautiful Come To Gather Designer Series Paper. I cut out some of the pumpkins from the paper and I also found some stamped pumpkins from the Gather Together Stamp Set in my stash that I had already colored with Stampin’ Blends. I thought they still fit in with the other pumpkins even though they are more colorful. Next, I stuck in some stamped and die-cut or punched leaves I had just done or already had in my stash. The larger leaves are from the Rooted In Nature Stamp Set.

Once I decided my pumpkins and leaves needed a little background, I die cut a piece from the Ornate Frames Dies. You should really check out these dies because they are pictured in the Halloween section but they CERTAINLY can be used for other things. There is nothing “Halloween” about them. I think they will be very useful well past Halloween. I die cut a large one out of Pretty Peacock Cardstock, even though it is barely visible.

Play around with your elements before adhering and see what layout you like the best. Some of the pumpkins are popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals® and some are flat. Then I stuck in the leaves and sprigs of greenery wherever I thought they would look good.

Votive holders like this one are fun to decorate for any holiday or occasion so stock up a few at the dollar store or wherever you find them! Here is a Christmas one I made a few years ago. You could also decorate all the way around the holder. So many possibilities!
