Florals In Bloom Decorated Kraft Gift Bag

Floral Blooms Decorated Kraft Gift Bag

When I came across this plain kraft shopping bag, I decided it would be a good idea to decorate it for a summer birthday gift. This Floral Blooms Decorated Kraft Gift Bag was easy to make and now it is ready to go when I need a gift bag for a birthday! The beautiful paper really transformed this plain bag!

All these measurements depend on the size of your bag, obviously. My bag is 9 1/2″ wide. Just adjust your measurements according to how big or small your bag is. I used the Florals In Bloom Designer Series Paper in the new Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. You could use any pattern in the package you like. My paper is cut at 5″ x 9 1/2″. I also added a strip of Petunia Pop cardstock (one of the current In Colors from last year, still current this year!) at the top and bottom of the floral paper. I already had a scrap that I could use. I cut it in half so each piece was about 1″ x 9 1/2″. Half an inch was adhered underneath the designer paper, top and bottom so half an inch would show.

The greeting uses the With You In Mind Stamp Set. It’s a “returning fave” on page 37 of the Annual Catalog, carried over from the last catalog. It was perfect for the look I wanted on this gift bag with it’s large greeting. It is stamped in Petunia Pop ink on Basic White cardstock. I used the Textured Notes Dies to cut out the greeting and then cut out the next larger one out of Petunia Pop cardstock for a layer under the white. You can’t go wrong with this set of Textured Notes Dies! They are so useful and each one has a fancy border. They are part of the Botanical Textures Suite Collection so you could purchase these dies on the Suite Sale. Put your thinking cap on when you order so that the two lowest priced Suites or Suite items give you the good deal.

For a finishing touch, I tied a double bow with the Petunia Pop 3/8″ Bordered Ribbon. It’s on the Last Chance List. And a few sparkly gems, the new Strawberry Slush & Pretty In Pink Gems. Even though neither of those colors are Petunia Pop, the light-colored Pretty In Pink ones worked just fine. There are also Clear gems in that package as well.

Just that quick you have a nice gift bag that could be designed for any occasion or season! I love making these gift bags out of small shopping bags I receive at certain stores….or you can purchase a package of them at the craft store. They are handy to have on hand!

Textured Notes Thinking of You Card

Textured Notes Thinking of You Card

I wanted to make an easy card and the first stamp set I noticed was With You In Mind. I thought, “I will just stamp the large greeting and stamp a few flowers around in the background.” Easy peasy. While thinking about what color to use for the card base, I decided to pull out the Color Coach. The Color Coach is the Stampin’ Up! version of the color wheel. What jumped out at me was to use Analogous colors, which are colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. I chose Melon Mambo, Bubble Bath, and Fresh Freesia. I wasn’t sure those three were going to make a pretty card, but supposedly the Color Coach says so! I think it was right, once I finished the card!

The card base is Melon Mambo with a Basic White layer. The two colors of flowers that I used aren’t too different, or maybe I need to reink my ink pad. I stamped some flowers in Bubble Bath ink and some in Fresh Freesia. You probably can’t tell the difference in the photo, but I can’t tell much difference in person either.

The “Thinking of You” greeting is stamped in Melon Mambo ink. I love the font and size of the greetings in this stamp set. I did take some time to play around with the colors or stamping on colored cardstock, but ended up with the Melon Mambo ink on white. Then I had to figure out how to layer it or place it on the card.

One thing you should put on your Shopping List for the new Online Exclusives are the Textured Notes Dies. I think you will like them and use them a lot. Each rectangle die has a different border and they layer together nicely in lots of different sizes. Once I was able to fit the greeting onto one of the dies, then I used the next larger die to cut out a Bubble Bath cardstock layer. Since I didn’t want to take up any more space on the card with a larger die, I simply cut a piece of Fresh Freesia cardstock just 1/8″ larger on all sides to layer under the Bubble Bath cardstock. This gave me all three colors I was using on the Color Coach right there in the center of the card.

This is very unlike me, but I happened to place the greeting at an angle and I really liked it. I think it makes the card even happier with a little whimsy that just putting it on straight. I could have popped it up on Stampin’ Dimensionals but I just adhered it flat….AFTER adhering some ribbon tails on each side. As I started looking in my ribbon basket, I came across this pretty Bubble Bath Sheer Ribbon from a Combo Pack. This ribbon is now retired, but I used it because it was perfect for this card. I cut two pieces of ribbon, about 2″ each and folded them in half, in a V-shape spacing out the ends, and adhered them to the back of the card. For another embellishment, I used some of the Purple Sequins that were free during Sale-A-Bration. They were laying right there and looked like perfect matches so I used them, but if you don’t have them you have lots of other choices for sequins or gems on your card.

I started out not too inspired, not too enthused in that moment to make a card, and eventually came up wtih this card that I really liked! You just never know what will happen when you start making a card!

Remember, there are LOTS of new products in the Online Store with new Online Exclusives and two new Kits in the Kits Collection!

With You In Mind Masculine Birthday Card

With You In Mind Masculine Birthday Card

This With You In Mind Masculine Birthday Card uses some rather new products and a soon-to-be-new product! The plaid paper and the colors make it a great masculine card that we often have difficulty coming up with.

I wanted to use the Timeless Plaid 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper for a card and this is what I came up with. You’ll find it in the Stampin’ Up! Spring Mini Catalog. This plaid has brown and blues in it. I chose Crumb Cake cardstock for the card base and then the plaid designer paper.

The greeting is stamped in Boho Blue ink on Basic White with the With You In Mind Stamp Set. This stamp set is also in the Spring Mini. I really like this stamp set! It has rather large greetings in a fun font and are ones everyone will use, plus some small images like the stars and cupcake you see on this card. This greeting was then diecut using new dies “coming” on March 4th in the Online Exclusives! Demonstrators were able to preorder. These are the Textured Notes Dies. These are all rectangles with different diecut border designs. They will be very useful dies to use for layering or cutting frames to use. For this card I added an extra plain Boho Blue layer under the Basic White greeting, just cut with the Paper Trimmer, and then the whole greeting piece is layered on top of a Textured Note diecut piece of Crumb Cake. For this card I really liked the extra Boho Blue color layered under the white. I popped up the whole greeting with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For some embellishments, I stamped two stars, one in Boho Blue ink and one in Crumb Cake ink, plus a cupcake. To stamp the cupcake, I inked up just the cupcake bottom with Crumb Cake ink, stamped that, then inked up just the frosting in Lost Lagoon ink, and stamped that right above the cupcake bottom. It happened to work out perfectly! You could also use Stampin’ Write markers to color both areas, breathe on the stamp, then stamp. It might turn out a little light but it would probably be fine. Then I just cut out the stars and cupcake with my Paper Snips. I felt like the card still needed a little sparkle or something so I added two gold dots in the Low Profile Dots. I really like these dots which are really “low profile” because they don’t add bumpy lumps to the envelope when mailing!

Although I labeled this card as masculine, it could be for anyone as is because the colors are so pretty together in the plaid, but you could change the plaid paper to other colors and brighten up the whole card a little bit. Be sure to check out these Textured Note Dies when they come out next week.
