Easy Valentine Treats to Give

If you are looking for easy Valentine treats to make to give to people, here are a couple of ideas! Candy, of course, is always a good idea for friends or family or maybe your office co-workers or the staff at your doctor’s office or whatever places you go to regularly.

The candy treat on the left is very simple, just a strip of paper, really, wrapped around a Ghirardelli chocolate, Aren’t these some of the best chocolates for using for a special treat?! I just cut a strip of Melon Mambo cardstock 7 1/4″ x 2 3/4″ and scored it at 3″, 3 1/4″ and 6 1/4″. Fold all the score lines with a good crease with the Bone Folder.  The little 1/4″ space gives just a little room for the chocolate square. You probably want to adhere the chocolate lightly to the paper with a Glue Dot or bit of Snail Adhesive just to hold that candy inside. Then fold the paper strip around the candy on the scored lines and fold the flap over the top.

Now that you have the basic instructions, you could decorate or embellish this ANY way you like! I punched two small holes in the top and tied with a 12″ piece of ribbon.  On this one I used the Silver 1/8″ Ribbon. Since I already had the Silver Glimmer Paper hearts die cut from the Love Notes Framelits Dies I just used those.  You could punch hearts with any heart punch you had or die cuts or add a Whisper White layer to the front and stamp some pretty hearts. For a little greeting I just pulled out my old standby, Teeny Tiny Wishes. Still love that stamp set! Just stamp on a small scrap of paper, curve it a little with the Bone Folder and adhere to the front with a couple Glue Dots.  The possibilities are endless with this project!

And the candies to the right in the photo above are always my favorites for special occasions. Simply take a 1″ x 3″ piece of designer paper (preferably) or cardstock and adhere the ends on the back around a chocolate nugget candy. You could even tie a little ribbon around some of them.  Put them in a small cello bag or small box or whatever you have.  SO easy!  I love this idea!  On these candies I used scraps of the Sending Love Designer Series Paper Stack.  This paper won’t be just for Valentine’s Day, there are plenty of generic patterns that you can use for many projects and cards.

Paper Pumpkin January 2017 Valentine Treat Bags

I finally got around to making my Paper Pumpkin January 2017 Kit which was Valentine Treat Bags.  I was waiting to see if I would actually make the treat bags or if I would make some alternative ideas, like valentine cards. Of course these wouldn’t have to be just for Valentine’s Day. I saw online where someone used these for party favors for a wedding.

What is Paper Pumpkin?  It’s a crafting kit from Stampin’ Up! that comes in your mailbox once a month with a surprise project inside.  Might be cards, might be a treat bag, might be an album, might be a decor item – you never know!  I’ve heard some people don’t like surprises, but why not live dangerously??  It’s only stamps, ink and paper!  And you do get an exclusive photopolymer stamp set inside every kit plus a small ink spot and all the supplies plus directions for making your kit.  And every month there is a video from Stampin’ Up! to watch as well if you want a little more direction. (It does help!)  You can follow the directions exactly or come up with your own project.  There are no Paper Pumpkin Police checking if you made the project they sent!  Surely you deserve a few minutes of crafting time for yourself!

I actually made my treat bags a little differently than the directions.  I’d read that the top flap was difficult to fold over and keep closed because of the layers of paper and because of the arrow that was supposed to be in the fold. Since I was short on time (of course!) I just cut off that plain foldover part of the bag and stapled the top of the bag shut.  Just be sure to put your treat inside first!  I put 3 pieces of chocolate candy inside.  Maybe you could put one more, depending on your candy.  Of course it wouldn’t have to be just for candy – a small gift or gift card would be very nice inside as well! I didn’t make the arrows and I didn’t put the gold fine thread bunched up behind the stamped heart.  I needed the quick and easy version!  I’ll save the other supplies for another time.  Even glue dots and dimensionals were included in this kit!

Easy Valentines to Make with Sending Love Paper Stack

Time is getting short, so you might want ideas for quick valentines such as these easy valentines to make with the Sending Love Paper Stack.  These valentines are quick to make because I just used a 4″ x 4″ Whisper White card base (4″ x 8″ folded in half) and added a pattern from the Sending Love Designer Series Paper Stack, each piece cut 3 7/8″ x 3 7/8″.

The greeting is stamped in Real Red Ink with a stamp in the Sealed With Love Stamp Set. If you don’t own this stamp set, you probably have another “Happy Valentine’s Day” stamp somewhere in your stash or something you can use. On three of these greetings I used the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies which I love! And then on two of them I added a layer behind the Stitched Shape. The other one, the circle on the top card, I left plain. The die cut heart is made with the Sweet & Sassy Framelits Dies with a larger heart layer out of Silver Glimmer Paper underneath. On the other card, the squares are made with the Layering Squares Framelits Dies.

If you need to make a bunch of valentines, it’s easiest to pick one design and make it assembly-line fashion. Assembly-line fashion means you cut all the card bases – then you score all the card bases – then you fold all the card-bases-then you cut all the paper layers then you stamp all the greetings- and so on. Do not make one whole card and then start on the second one, if they are all the same design.  It’s almost like you get muscle-memory when you are cutting or stamping or folding and it goes really quickly.

For a little extra embellishments, on the heart card I added three little Rhinestone Jewels just for a little extra pop.  On the square, I tied a little bow with the new Sending Love Ribbon Combo Pack in the Occasions Catalog and stuck on the top of the greeting with a Glue Dot.

If you set up your little stamping station, you can make a bunch of valentines similar to these easy valentines pretty quickly. Don’t just rush though, enjoy the moment! Enjoy doing your stamping!

Stamp An Easy Valentine Card with Sealed With Love

Easy Stamped Valentine Card

If you haven’t started already, it’s time to get busy making valentines. Valentine’s Day is a week away so you might want to make some easy valentines with the Sealed With Love Stamp Set like this valentine. Essentially I made my own designer paper by stamped two different hearts all over the Whisper White layer on my card. The hearts are from the Sealed With Love Photopolymer Stamp Set in the Occasions Catalog. This set has a great selection of stamps from which to choose, and its use doesn’t have to stop at Valentine’s Day.

When you stamp like this, start with your largest image and stamp randomly on the paper. Years ago I heard a tip to stamp kind of in a triangle. I don’t know that I always follow that, but you can try it. In the end, although the stamping will be random, you want to try to have it look somewhat balanced.  You will know if it looks right or not! After you have stamped the large image, then go to the smaller ones. This makes it easiest to fill in the empty space.

This monochromatic card was easy to make because I just used a Real Red card base and stamped with Real Red ink. You could also do an assortment of colors and have it be very pretty as well.

For the greeting, I chose the one in the photo above from the Sealed With Love Stamp Set, stamped it on Whisper White and then die cut with the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies. They are available again after being so popular when they were first released! And for a layer underneath the greeting I chose the proper Layering Ovals Framelits Dies to put a scalloped layer underneath.

And a little ribbon was in order, so I chose the Real Red 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon.  There is a narrow red ribbon in the Occasions Catalog but it didn’t show up as well with this background so I chose the wider ribbon.

How simple is this valentine?  Go stamp a few in whatever colors or combinations you like and choose your own greeting! Valentine’s Day is February 14th as you know!  Make some valentines and send them to your friends and loved ones!

Half of the cards are designed to fold at the top and the other half to fold at the side as we usually make. It really doesn’t make any difference as they are both the same size in the end.

Super Bowl 2017 Punch Art Football Game Card

Super Bowl 2017 Owl Punch Football Game Card

Today is the big day! It’s Super Bowl Sunday in Houston, Texas! Here are my little Owl Punch football players ready for Super Bowl 2017 on this card! Don’t think this card is only for a Super Bowl game.  You could make this for the sports fan in your life. But when you have such a big event in your city, it’s fun to be able to make a card or project out of stamps, ink and paper.

Isn’t the Owl Punch probably the most versatile punch ever created??! There’s always something you can do with the Owl Punch! Here the owls represent the football players on the field. I wonder who kicked the final field goal?

This is a pretty easy card to make. Just cut some very narrow strips of paper for the goal post and the lines on the football field. Make the football out of a circle punch, as I described in this post. The “Awesome” greeting is stamped from the Marquee Messages Stamp Set. Just change the greeting and have it be a birthday card or “thinking of you” card or maybe congratulations on the big game.

There were lots of Super Bowl parties going on last night around Houston. And apparently it is the biggest aviation day of the year with 1600 private aircraft arriving! Someone said they will all want to leave right after the game, too! All I can think of is how much money is involved just in those private planes! Oh, and for and extra $5000, you can get a helicopter ride for up to 6 people from the airport to beat the traffic to a golf club near the NRG Stadium where the game will be played.

President George Bush and his wife Barbara are expected to do the coin toss! I’ve seen them before at an Astros baseball game so they are quite the sports fans and quite the icons in Houston! They make their home here in Houston so they have always been an important part of the city.

I heard one newscaster say she would be sad when all the Super Bowl excitement is over for Houston. It’s been a big deal here, to say the least. Now we will just see who wins the game, how well the commercials played, and how the halftime show with Lady Gaga goes. Rumor has it that hundreds of drones flying around are involved. Who knows?

A Football Card For Super Bowl LI in Houston, Texas

Super Bowl LI Football Card

It’s here for sure!  Super Bowl Weekend is here with the game tomorrow! Here is a Football Card For Super Bowl LI in Houston, Texas. The city of Houston is so excited to be hosting the Super Bowl this year and LOTS of activities have been going on all week! More and more celebrities are arriving for parties and events, a big concert tonight with Taylor Swift, all kinds of media from around the world, and Houston is spruced up for the big day!

Of course a Stampin’ Up! cardmaker has to make a football card to commemorate the big occasion! The card base is Chocolate Chip with a Garden Green layer for the field. I cut very narrow (1/8″) strips of Whisper White cardstock and glued them down for the lines on the football field.  The Stampin’ Up! Grid Paper was very helpful in getting the first one centered and the rest spaced evenly.

The football was really easy to make, easier than I thought it would be!  Just use a Circle Punch!  I happened to use a 2″ Circle Punch but you can use any size you want, depending on what size you want your football to be. Just punch the circle, then put it back in the punch part way until you see a football shape (looking at the punch from the bottom) and punch again. The make the stitching on the football I just cut very thin strips again of Whisper White. For the curved bands at the end, I used the Circle Punch again. If you have the Layering Circle Framelits Dies and Big Shot you can die cut any size footballs you need!

I always think it is fun to use my Layered Letters Alphabet Stamp Set! I stamped the words “Super Bowl LI” in several colors, close together, hoping they would fit on the card some way. I didn’t know if I would cut the letters apart or how I would do it, so sometimes you just have to play. Luckily I figured out the layout of the words pretty easily on my card! Sometimes there is more trial and error!

Did you learn your Roman Numerals well in school? I wonder if they even teach Roman Numerals any more.  I always thought it was fun and “got it” pretty easily. Seems like we used to have to write out all the Roman Numerals to 100 or 500 or 1000, whatever it was!  I can still see my writing in pencil on the “newsprint” paper we used to use a lot in elementary school! Anyway, this year with the Super Bowl being number 51, the Roman Numeral LI is a little odd looking I think.

If you don’t have a ticket to the Super Bowl in Houston tomorrow, maybe you can be inspired to make some football or any sports cards and keep them on hand for birthdays or congratulations for a special game or whatever occasion. I heard on the news yesterday that some lady was in the audience for a press conference or something with Roger Goodell and actually asked if he had extra tickets for his suite! He spoke to her afterwards and she and her husband are going to the Super Bowl game!!!  She said it never hurts to ask!  Holy Cow!

Valentine Sending Love Small Treat Bag

Valentine Sending Love Small Treat BagIf you are looking for ideas for Valentine treats, this Valentine Sending Love Small Treat Bag might be the perfect idea for you! It is the perfect size for just a few treats and easy to make! You can use cardstock or designer paper and make this treat bag for any occasion.  Decorate it however you like with die cuts or greetings or just leave plain if you use cute paper.

Start with a piece of paper 4″ x 6″. The Sending Love Designer Series Paper Stack is 6″ x 6″ so it is perfect to just cut off 2″ and you are ready to go! It’s easiest if the paper doesn’t have a pattern that must go a certain way, but if it does, just be careful to have the pattern running the correct way.

This is the inside of what will be my treat bag but I drew on the score lines so you could see.  The “x” marks the area that you will cut off entirely.  You can see how the score line going across lengthwise indicates where the bottom of the bag will be, so watch your pattern.

Place the paper lengthwise on the Simply Scored board and score at 1″ (portrait). The bottom of the bag should be along the left side of the board.  Then turn the paper and score at 1″, 2 3/4″, 3 3/4″ and 5 1/2″. (Obviously if you have the paper turned the wrong way you wouldn’t be able to score at 5 1/2″ if the paper is only 4″ wide.) After scoring, cut up on all those bottom score lines up to that 1″ score line. Then cut off the little area marked with an X on my diagram. Fold and crease all the score lines.  I like to use a Bone Folder to get a good crease!

Treat Bag Folded

After the bag is creased, add some adhesive to the narrow flap on one side.  I like to use Tear & Tape because I’m sure it will hold the bag closed. You can see it in the photo above. If you just fold the other side of the box over it is easier to adhere flat than to have the box 3D. Just match up the top of the bag so the edges are even.Treat Bag open box

When the box is all assembled, this is what it looks like.  You could leave it like this! But if you want the top closed, be sure to put your treat inside and then punch a hole or two holes in the top and add a ribbon or bow. Just push in on the sides in order to pull the top edges together. When you have the treat bag assembled, add on whatever you like to decorate.

Just think, if you use birthday paper or the colors of your themed party, then you have something for another occasion!  Once you make some of these, you would probably be able to design your own treat bag according to whatever size you want.  Just draw a little sketch showing how wide and how tall you want the front and back and then how wide you want the sides. You could use this same idea and make a smaller or larger bag or box.

No matter what, this little Valentine Sending Love Small Treat Bag is easy to make and fun to give!

Super Bowl 2017 Card With Punch Art Football Helmets

Super Bowl LI is almost here, although for those of us living in Houston, Texas it IS here! Time to celebrate with a card for Super Bowl 2017 Card With Punch Art Football Helmets. I wanted something to commemorate this big event for our city, so here is a card celebrating the best in football here in Houston!  The greeting from the Watercolor Words Photopolymer Stamp Set expresses it perfectly!

The city has been spruced up for the Super Bowl, and the George R. Brown Convention  downtown and Discovery Green, a park outside the convention center, have been transformed for many events held pre-Super Bowl this week. There are games, parties, celebrity sightings, concerts, shows and more and that’s all before the championship game even starts!

To make my Super Bowl card, I used a Soft Suede card base with a layer of Emerald Envy on top. Before I adhered the green piece, I scored it with lines about 3/4″ apart with my Simply Scored scoring board  to represent the football field with the yardage marks. Then I stamped the greeting with the Watercolor Words stamp set I mentioned.

For the football helmets, made with punches, I punched a circle with the 1 3/4″ Circle Punch. Then I used a 1 1/4″ Circle Punch  to punch the indentation for the front of the helmet and the 1/2″ Circle Punch for the little indentation. To make the face guard I used a retired triangle punch. I also used my retired Crop-A-Dile tool to punch the little black circle on both helmets and a retired small star punch for the stars.  Just use whatever you may have! Or you can just snip parts by hand.

It is fun having stamping and papercrafting supplies on hand for commemorating these special events and occasions going on, just for fun. But this card isn’t just for the Super Bowl in Houston, you could make something like this for a man’s birthday. As we have discussed before, it often is difficult to come up with a masculine card…..not that this couldn’t be a card for a woman or a girl.

Easy Masculine Birthday Card to Make

Easy Masculine Birthday Card with Serene SceneryFor some reason, we all seem to find it difficult to make a card for the men in our lives, but here is an easy masculine birthday card to make. I think often in the whole crafting world, there is a lot for women but not so much for men. But if we look carefully and think outside the box creatively and often with the help of Stampin’ Up!, we can always find something appropriate for any occasion.

Sometimes an idea just pops into my head, and the other day it was to use the Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper Stack. I find that I often get carried away with the seasonal catalogs, like the recent Holiday Catalog and now the spring/summer Occasions Catalog, and forget all the great products in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. I paged through the stack of designer paper and choose the pattern that looks like wood strips (it would make a pretty wood floor!) What I wanted to do was make a simple card with designer paper and a bold greeting stamped on the front.

The card base is made with Soft Suede Card Stock, incidentally not one of the coordinating colors with the Serene Scenery paper, but I liked it better with this paper than Crumb Cake. Then I stamped in Early Espresso Ink the birthday greeting from the stamp set Big on Birthdays which is in the Occasions Catalog on page 6. There are so many birthday stamps sets with fabulous greetings to choose from in the Occasions Catalog this year!

To embellish my masculine birthday card, I tied on a piece of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon. Burlap is not just for masculine cards and projects at all. It’s a very thin and loose weave ribbon, not big and bulky like you might think of burlap ribbon. It’s very nice and I think something everyone should have in their stash for certain cards and other projects.

Often we don’t show the inside of cards, usually just stamping a greeting or writing a note inside is all that is required and is personal to your recipient. Since I was using Soft Suede, I added a piece of Whisper White cardstock inside, stamped another greeting from the same Big on Birthdays Stamp Set. Since I had a strip of the patterned paper left over, I just added it to the bottom of the inside piece of cardstock. Often it works to turn the paper over and show the pattern on the other side of the paper!

Stylish Stems Cutout Die Birthday Card

I saw a card like this one and immediately thought I needed to make one like it, a Stylish Stems Cutout Die Birthday Card.  I used a Pool Party card base with a Whisper White layer die cut with a flower die with a glimmer paper behind it. I love the simplicity and elegance of the card, and it has tons of possibilities! I want to make more!

Just think!  Using this basic card idea, you could make a card for almost any occasion! Die cut the flower, put some contrasting paper behind it, and stamp a greeting! So simple and so easy! I was going to make the card white on white like the sample I saw online, but decided to add some color with the Pool Party cardstock. To make the flower I just used my Big Shot and the Stylish Stems Framelits Dies. These dies are special because the large flower die just cuts out the flower pieces as you see on the card above. If you want to die cut the whole flower to use elsewhere, then you can add the shape around it to die cut it. I just adhered a piece of Silver Glimmer Paper behind the die cut flower for some pizzazz!  The greeting is from the Window Shopping Stamp Set.

There is a coordinating stamp set, Special Reason, to use with these dies. If you want to save 10%, the Special Reason Bundle comes with both the stamp set and the framelits dies. I’m sure you will want both sets to make beautiful cards and projects.

Time to make those valentines, and here is a Valentine Mini Treat Bag made with the Sending Love Glassine Sheets.  You can see on the photo that the glassine sheets have a small pattern on them! I used the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies to make the treat bag. I absolutely love that die, but it was a little difficult to use on the slippery glassine sheets.  However, I also need to use new cutting pads with my Big Shot so that made for a difficult situation. But I did it, and assembled the bag and inserted a card.

The card is stamped with stamps from the Sealed with Love Photopolymer Stamp Set.  So many stamps to choose from in that set! And you’ll be able to use them long past Valentine’s Day.

To decorate the Mini Treat Bag, I added a Red Glimmer Paper banner, stapled at the top with the Stampin’ Up! Handheld Stapler.  Stampin’ Up! is going to stop carrying this stapler when the inventory is depleted, which is a shame since I love mine. It is just a nice size.  If you need this stapler, don’t delay, order it while you still can!  The hearts are die cuts from the Love Notes Framelits Dies. I cut extras the other day so I was all set to add some hearts to decorate my bag!

If you don’t have the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies to make this project, you still use the ideas on a regular card with a banner and hearts or stamping like the inside of the card! Once you start stamping, the ideas will flow!

Chinese New Year Red Money Envelopes Confetti

It’s the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Rooster! Depending on where you live, you might be able to catch a Lion Dance somewhere in celebration or maybe someone will give you a red money envelope, such as the ones I made above, for luck and prosperity. It’s customary to put crisp, new bills in the envelopes (no coins!) so people have to make a trip to the bank to trade in their old wrinkled bills. And it’s not good to give an amount of money with a “four” in it because the number four in Chinese sounds like the word for “death”.  Eight, however, is a lucky number.

These red money envelopes in the photo above I made with retired Real Red Envelope Paper and decorated with cardstock from the Sprinkles Punch.

Chinese New Year Red Money Envelopes Year of the Rooster

This weekend is Chinese New Year on January 28th, and it is tradition for Chinese people to give out these red envelopes with money inside! Here are some red money envelopes for the Chinese New Year that I made for someone. I made an assortment of different designs. This New Year is the Year of the Rooster, so I tried to make some roosters with heart shapes! These were really fun to make!

I couldn’t have made these envelopes very easily without the Stampin’ Up! Envelope Punch Board. I found the size listed on the board, cut my paper the correct size and followed the directions found on the board.  I used some retired Real Red Envelope Paper that was perfect for this project. Luckily I ordered some extra packages before it was all gone! That is the envelope flap that you see at the top.

I made different designs since I was making a lot of them, some more whimsical like these heart roosters and some with gold embossing that to me look more like red envelopes I’ve seen online.

This doesn’t photograph as well, but I loved this gold embossed Definitely Dahlia stamp! I also pulled out any retired Happy New Year stamps I could find in my stash!

This envelope is stamped and embossed with the Flourishing Phrases Stamp Set and embellished with a butterfly die cut with the Butterflies Thinlits Dies.  This envelope is one of my favorites…..after the roosters!
