Yesterday the Stampin’ Up!© Designer Series Paper and Cardstock sale began with 15% off select papers during the month of August! I made this Subtles Painted Patterns Hello Card with a fun pack of paper. It’s the Subtles Painted Patterns Designer Series Paper, but you can also buy it in any of the other Stampin’ Up! color families, like the Brights or Regals. I just love the different artsy patterns – stripes and polka dots in various sizes and widths, which all have such a fun look! It makes you happy just to look through the paper! To make this card, I started with a card base of Basic White. The layer of Balmy Blue cardstock is 4″ x 5 1/4″. Instead of just putting a full layer of the polka dot designer paper layered on top, I cut the Subtles Painted Patterns DSP into three strips. Each of these polka-dotted pieces is 1 1/2″ wide by 3 3/4″ long in order to leave that Balmy Blue showing through on all the side margins.

Then I added a strip across the three pieces, the pattern with the large Balmy Blue polka dots, and layered it on a piece of Balmy Blue cardstock. This scrap piece happened to be 1 3/8″ wide and I cut it at 4 7/8″ long to end at the edges of the polka dot pieces. I layered it on a piece of Balmy Blue, 1 5/8″ wide and 4 7/8″ long. For the center, I diecut two of the Scalloped Blooms Dies, one in Balmy Blue and one in Basic White. You can stamp whatever greeting you want, and that fits in the small white scalloped piece. I chose “hello” in the retired Simply Said Stamp Set, stamped in Balmy Blue ink. I popped the whole scalloped blossom up on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I wanted to add some kind of gem, jewel, or dot, and I found these Muted Palette Dots (retired) that had Balmy Blue in them, albeit only 2 small and 2 large dots. At first I thought I would have to maybe use some Cloud Cover dots instead in another package. Still, once I placed a large and a small on the right side of the scalloped blossom greeting, it made perfect sense to do the same on the other side, rather than sticking with the “rule” of using an odd number. I like the way it turned out.

You could make so many kinds of cards, scrapbook pages, and other projects with any of these Painted Patterns Designer Series Paper color families. They just have that “happy” look to them!

This Subtles Painted Patterns Friend Card is a very easy card to make! Yesterday in my stamping newsletter, I showed a card that I planned on illustrating how you could make a quick & easy card using one of the ephemera packs at Stampin’ Up! Well, the card I made would be easy for anyone to copy, but it was one of those cards that I could not get the design to come together to my satisfaction! Many cards can be like that, but since I was trying to make a super-simple card, I was easily frustrated not getting it right in my eye!

However, THIS card came out how I expected that card for my newsletter to come out! For this card, I just chose the designer paper, the color cardstock for the card base, adhered pieces of paper and slapped on an ephemera greeting! Done! And it still looks cute!

Every year Stampin’ Up! has a 6″ x 6″ pack of designer paper with all the colors in each color family. With this catalog, those packs are all 12″ x 12″, and I love the patterns they chose! I’d like to have all the colors, but I only bought the Subtles. It’s the Subtles Painted Patterns Designer Series Paper. I really like these patterns of polka dots, little dots, lines, stripes all in a watercolored look.

For this card, I chose this pattern of Calypso Coral small dots and therefore, a Calypso Coral card base. I chose this greeting in the Sincerely Noted Ephemera Pack in the new May-August Stampin’ Up! Catalog. You get lots of different greetings in many different shapes in muted colors so you can use them in lots of ways. It is so great if you are making a card, especially a quick & easy one, if you can just grab an appropriate greeting in an ephemera pack and finish off your card with it.

After I had the dotted designer paper adhered to the card front, I pulled out the paper with the wide and narrow stripes, thinking I would put it on the left side. But on impulse, I placed it on the right side of the card and liked it. This strip is 2″ x 5 1/4″. You can choose your own measurement. Since I loved the big polka dots also, I wondered if I could use a strip of that on the card, too. I meant to adhere is a little off the left edge of the card, but forgot, and glued it in it’s “normal” place, along the left edge of the card, which was fine. I really like the three different patterns of paper on this card, and yet it was so quick and easy to do. The polka dot strip is only about 1/2″ wide.

The ephemera greeting is a lovely sentiment and is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals. I also added a bow, which happens to be the new Barely Blush 3/8″ Bordered Ribbon. I think it really looks good on this card with the other colors, even though it is not officially a coordinating color. I think you could easily add some iridescent gems, something clear but sparkly, to add a little bling to the card, but it isn’t necessary.

You could make several cards in this design with either the same pack of designer series paper and different patterns, or use different DSPs, then just add an ephemera greeting or quickly stamp your own, and in not much time, you’ll have a good stack of cards to keep on hand for when you need one!

Something new from the Stampin’ Up! May-August 2026 Catalog! These Subtles Painted Patterns Note Cards are made with the new Subtles Painted Patterns Designer Series Paper. Every year Stampin’ Up! offers patterned paper in the color families, like Brights, Subtles, etc. The patterns are the same, but the colors, of course, are not. This time, though, the paper is 12″ x 12″ instead of the 6″ x 6″. I really like these patterns, too!

You can see how I mixed up the patterned paper on these cards. You can mix and match the patterns, maybe just turning the same paper over to the other side.

One of the best things you should have in your stash of crafting supplies are the Basic White Note Cards & Envelopes. These are a good size for writing a short note or making a simple card. Not that you couldn’t make something fancy on a note card if you wanted to! They are just handy to have and come with envelopes so you don’t have to hunt for a smaller envelope.

The note cards are 5″ x 3 1/2″ folded. I cut the patterned paper at 4 3/4″ x 3 1/4″. The strip on the left is cut at 3/4″ x 4 3/4″. The sentiment is stamped on a Basic White scallop diecut. Wait until you see all the scallop dies in the package! You’re going to be able to cut a pretty large scallop plus an assortment of smaller layering sizes. These are the Scalloped Blooms Dies. These probably should be on your Shopping List! The greeting is in the Paradise Garden Stamp Set. Wouldn’t that particular greeting just cheer up anybody receiving this card?! My friend would call that a “happy card”!

One set of cards was made with the Calypso Coral paper and the other with the Balmy Blue paper. Each card is stamped in the same color ink. I also added a little white bow out of some retired ribbon. Everything is glued down flat but if you wanted, you could pop up the greeting with Stampin’ Dimensionals, or add the ribbon behind the scallop.

That’s how easy this card is and the new Painted Patterns DSP is so fun to use!
