Two-Tone Torn Paper Ocean Card

Two-Tone Torn Paper Ocean Card

I saw a card using the Two-Tone Cardstock that Stampin’ Up! now carries that reminded me that the Two-Tone cardstock could be torn and look like ocean waves! That is how this Two-Tone Torn Paper Ocean Card came about! Tearing paper was something everyone was doing when I first joined Stampin’ Up! many years ago and then I didn’t see it for awhile. I think it is back now and a fun and easy technique to use!

The card base is Crumb Cake but the entire front of the card is covered. There is no Crumb Cake margin showing as I usually do. I cut several strips of different widths of the Two-Tone Cardstock in various colors in 5 1/2″ lengths to fit completely across the card. The other dimension of the strips doesn’t really matter since they are going to get torn to make different widths, so I cut some at 1″ and some at 2″ or 3″ wide. Two-Tone cardstock means that it has a white core which is perfect for looking like white caps on ocean waves! Also, one side of the paper has one color and the other side has the same color but in a different shade, lighter or darker. That gives you a lot of choices with just one sheet of paper!

You can use whatever colors for water, sky, sand or landscape that you choose. My paper isn’t labeled and sorted yet, so I’m not positive about my colors. However, I believe I used Crumb Cake for the sandy beach, Pool Party and Night of Navy for the water, and just regular Daffodil Delight for the sun. I punched out the sun with a 1 3/4″ Circle Punch. You can use whatever size punch or die you have. The top piece of “sky” is Basic White, colored slightly with Balmy Blue ink and a Small Blending Brush. You could also use a sponge. I purposely left some areas of the paper whitish to look like clouds.

The trick to tearing strips is to tear the strip toward yourself with the side of the paper you want to use in the front to show off the torn edge. When you have some strips cut and torn, just play around with them a little bit and see how you like them laid out. You can apply glue only to the bottom edge of the strip, then you can adhere succeeding strips by slipping them behind the top of the bottom strip and so on. Or start at the top and work your way down. If you don’t like the way something looks, you can slip in a small torn piece or you can tear off the top edge of the paper a little more to fix it how you like it. The sun is just slipped in behind the top water strip.

I thought my card needed a boat, but I didn’t think I had one. Then I did remember there was a little sailboat in the Choose Happy Stamp Set. I stamped it in Memento Ink, colored with a brown and a red Stampin’ Blend marker, then cut it out carefully with scissors. I think it turned out to be a good size for my ocean! If you don’t have a sailboat stamp, just draw one yourself. It’s just a bowl shape for the boat and put a triangular sail on top.

The greeting is one I found in the Saying Something Ephemera Pack. When I came upon it, I knew it was perfect for this card! I popped it up with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Then you are finished with the paper strips on the card front, check and see if you need to trim off either or both sides of the card to even up everything. I like to use my very old Stampin’ Up! guillotine cutter, if you have that! But the Paper Trimmer will also work.

See what other ideas you can think of for using the Two-Tone Cardstock! I just thought of one myself!

Spotlight On Nature In Colors Hello Card

Spotlight On Nature In Colors Hello Card

I wouldn’t have predicted that I would come up with this Spotlight On Nature In Colors Hello Card when I wanted to highlight the Stampin’ Up! 2025-2027 In Colors, but here it is! I planned to use one diecut circle for each color scattered around on a card, probably using the Stylish Shapes Dies, but once I spotted the Spotlight on Nature Dies, I decided to use those instead! These dies have such interesting designs around the edges and lots of sizes so it was a no-brainer.

The card starts with just a Basic White card base although you could use something else, probably or piece of designer series paper. From there I just got out my assorted package of In Colors and used smaller pieces or half sheets to cut out a bunch of these circles. As long as I was diecutting, I may as well put several different dies on each piece of cardstock. I knew I could save any extras to use on another card or project. I like having the package of assorted In Colors, at least to start, so I can try out all the In Colors and then, the ones I really like, I can buy in individual packages. But to start with, I get all the colors in an assortment, and probably buying two assorted packages is a good idea! Then you have plenty of cardstock for awhile.

I could have predicted that to make this card, if I knew ahead of time what I would ultimately make, that I would take a long time to decide on colors and placement of all the circles. I originally thought I would only do one circle of each color on the card, but then I began layering. Somehow the pattern I originally laid out pretty much looked good and with just a few tweaks, I stuck with it! If you are working on something like this, and have it all laid out, but now you have to take it apart to glue it together, be sure to take a picture with your camera on your phone first and then you have that photo to refer back to! It sure is helpful to do that, if you think of it!

These are the 2025-2027 In Colors and I really like them. The colors are Secret Sea (the very dark blue), Cloud Cover (the lighter blue), Timid Tiger (the orange color), Darling Duckling (yellow) and Strawberry Slush (the vibrant pink). They all come in regular size cardstock, 12″ x 12″ cardstock, Stampin’ Blends, ink pads (except for Cloud Cover which just didn’t make the high quality standard but you can use the ink refill and make your own pad with a Stampin’ Spot!), Stampin’ Write Markers, and find these colors in designer papers. These are the on-trend colors for this year and next!

Back to my card! I could have popped up some of these circles, but they are all adhered flat to the card. I found the “Hello” greeting in the Saying Something Ephemera Pack. Of course, I stamp a lot of greetings for cards, but I also find it fun and time-saving to find an appropriate greeting in one of our many ephemera packs that we have in this catalog! To complete the card, I added the 2025-2027 In Color Flat Pearls. These are pretty and also fairly flat which is always good for mailing. I chose one of each color to put randomly on the card, in different sizes.

Wildflower Birthday Tag Card

Wildflower Birthday Tag Card

I wish I could express to you how easy this card was to make! I had no plans in mind except to use the Wildflower Birthday Specialty Designer Series Paper and out came this Wildflower Birthday Tag Card. I had forgotten about the two sheets of paper in the package that are full of individual tags and images that you can cut apart and use on your cards and projects. You also get two sheets of diecuts which are so fun to use! This designer paper is so pretty for a birthday but lots of other occasions as well. It is definitely not all birthday.

This card has a base of Basic White cardstock and a layer of Peach Pie cardstock. The green dotted designer paper is “the other side” of one of the themed papers in the Wildflower Birthday package. It’s so soft and pretty.

The tag is cut out of the sheet of tags and images I mentioned that also come in this Specialty paper. There are flowers, cakes, and balloons plus others. Just cut them apart and use them on your project. I chose this floral bouquet with a Peach Pie top of the tag. That’s why I added a thin layer of Peach Pie underneath the designer paper. That’s the only thing that took me any time – deciding on just the designer paper on the card base and on which color? White or Peach Pie? I just left a narrow margin of the Peach Pie peeking out under the Soft Sea Foam designer paper pattern and I liked the white card base. However, using Peach Pie for the card base was pretty too!

The tag is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals with a Peach Pie 3/8″ Bordered Ribbon bow adhered to the top. I don’t usually like things placed on an angle, but I liked it on this card! The greeting practically fell out of the package of words in the Saying Something Ephemera Pack so I figured it was the greeting to use! I also added a few Strawberry Slush & Pretty In Pink Gems in the clear color. Even though the name mentions two colors, there is actually three colors in the package!

If you don’t already own the Wildflower Birthday Specialty Designer Series Paper I’d recommend putting it on your shopping list because you can make lots of cards or scrapbook pages with it!

Fully Flowering Ephemera Card

Fully Flowering Ephemera Card

Something new in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog are these Ephemera Packs! I decided to use a couple of the precut pieces to make this Fully Flowering Ephemera Card. It only takes a few minutes, and you can still add your personalization to the card. There are four different package choices to make cardmaking or scrapbooking quick and easy! Check them out on page 19 in the Annual Catalog or online.

If you want to make cardmaking very easy you can purchase a set of five cards and five envelopes. There are two different styles and will go with any of the ephemera packs. With these cards, you don’t even have to choose which colors of cardstock to use. They are ready to go and the envelopes are decorated and match the cards.

For my card today, I chose these flower images from the Fully Flowering Ephemera Pack. The front image of two pink flowers, leaves, and green strawberries is one image and the extra pink flower at the top is another one. These floral elements in this pack are laser-cut to look like die-cut pieces. Just punch them out and adhere to your card or project. You get 8 sheets, 2 each of 4 different designs. Each sheet is 5″ x 7″. There are over a dozen colors that coordinate with this Fully Flowering Pack. A few of the images are not colored in so you can use those as they are or color them in yourself.

I chose a Pretty In Pink Cardstock card base with a layer of Basic White cut a little smaller than usual at 3 3/4″ x 5″. I thought the background needed “something” so I chose to “splatter” some Pretty In Pink ink on the Basic White. My splattering skills needed a little practice but really, you can’t go wrong with splattering! I just added some Pretty In Pink reinker into the lid of the ink pad and picked it up with some water using the Water Painter. Then I tapped the Water Painter against my Take Your Pick Tool to make the ink splatter.

The large image of the two pink flowers is popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the extra pink flower is just adhered flat on the card with Stampin’ Seal. The greeting is in the Saying Something Ephemera Pack. I also added a few Iridescent Rhinestone Jewels, which are retired, but I am going to use mine anyway. They are good for adding a little sparkle without showing off too much with color. If you want to use something in the Annual Catalog I would suggest the Iridescent Foil Gems or the Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

Both of these ephemera packs that I used on this card are back ordered but will be in stock again soon! the Saying Something Pack is due the week of July 1 and the Fully Flowering Pack is due the week of July 8. You can always check sooner because some things come in a little ahead of the date.

Don’t think these Ephemera Packs are limited to cardmaking! They can be used for scrapbook pages, too, or even other projects such as home decor, maybe in a framed piece. The sky is the limit!

Frames & Flowers So Happy For You Card

Frames & Flowers Specialty Paper Diecut So Happy For You Card

This is another card made with one of the papers in the Frames & Flowers Specialty Designer Series Paper, the Frames & Flowers So Happy For You Card. This card is easy to make, especially with the help of one of the new Ephemera Packs.

The card base is Calypso Coral although Pumpkin Pie is the coordinating color with the paper. But this looks fine and matches the paper and the flowers. The layer of designer paper on the card is “the other side” of one of the foliage patterns. The Frames & Flowers Paper is extra-special because besides three double-sided sheets of designer paper, you also get several sheets of punch-out diecuts of all kinds of foliage, flowers, and frames! So many pieces to play with and design a lovely card, scrapbook page, or other project!

For this card, I diecut a large circle in the Spotlight on Nature Dies in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. This is a great set of dies with lots of different sizes of circles and all have an interesting border around them. If you would like the Bundle, you get the dies and the Spotlight on Nature Stamp Set and save 10%. The stamp set has very soft and pretty sketches of flowers, a stem of leaves, and a butterfly that you can use on many projects. This is one of the products that I suggest even if you don’t want the stamp set, get the dies because you. will use them a lot.

The little bouquet of flowers in the center couldn’t be easier! They are one of the diecuts in the Frames & Flowers Designer Paper and there are many to choose from! I simply punched that out of the paper and adhered it to the Spotlight On Nature diecut. I popped up the diecut circle on the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals. The ribbon is one of the very pretty new ones in the Annual Catalog. It is called the Iridescent 1/2″ Striped Trim. It’s a very pretty sheer sparkly ribbon on the edges and on the middle stripes. It will beautify lots of cards and projects in the future! I tied the bow and adhered it with a Mini Glue Dot. I also added three little Iridescent Faceted Gems.

The greeting is one of the many diecuts in the Saying Something Ephemera Pack. We have four ephemera packs to choose from, one of the new and different products in the new Annual Catalog. This one has lots of greetings to use on projects of all kinds. I glued it down flat at the bottom of the card.

In yesterday’s post, I made a card using the Frames & Flowers Specialty Designer Series Paper but it has a whole different look than today’s card. That shows how versatile this fun pack of paper and diecuts can be! Be sure to check it out.

The thing we always say about Stampin’ Up! designer series paper…It is SO much prettier in person than you think looking at the photos online!
