Playing in the Rain Turtle Card

Playing in the Rain Turtle Card

Here is another card, the Playing in the Rain Turtle Card, to say “Goodbye” as many good products retire from Stampin’ Up! in less than a week. I know Stampin’ Up! always retires all or almost all the designer paper in an outgoing catalog, but this Rain Or Shine Specialty Designer Series Paper seems like it should be spared because of its cute characters and the “rainy” paper that goes so perfectly with the Playing in the Rain Stamp Set and matching dies. Stampers must have loved it because it is sold out as I write this. At least we do have the stamp set to stamp cute characters and the dies with so many additional pieces to create fun scenes. However, if you want the stamp set and dies, buy it by May 1st in the Bundle and save 10%. They will not be bundled in the new catalog, because we will have new bundles!

To make this card, I just pulled out the Rain or Shine Paper I have left, and I couldn’t resist this cute little white print pattern in the package. That helped me choose Flirty Flamingo for the card base and then the layer of designer paper. I cut out the turtle from the designer paper with my Paper Snips. I wasn’t doing the rain theme on this card so I didn’t include any puddles or raindrops with the turtle. I love that he is just holding a single daisy!

After I had the turtle ready, I thought maybe I should go ahead and add some grass and flowers to the bottom of the card, even though I don’t really have a sky. I just cut off a piece of the designer paper with the white and yellow daisies and curved around the top flowers just to look like little hills in the yard. That piece of grass and flowers is adhered flat on the bottom of the card, but I popped up the turtle with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The greeting is from the new Circle Sayings Stamp Set, coming in the new Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. It is stamped in Flirty Flamingo. I chose a die from the new Cheerful Daisies Dies that goes with the Cheerful Daisies Stamp Set in a Bundle. A little mixing of the old with the new! The greeting is also popped up on Dimensionals.

Basically, an easy card to make! It’s just a simple card front with a cutout turtle and a diecut greeting! You can make a card like this with other paper and stamps. Here’s another card I made using one of the cute characters, this one is stamped and colored in.

It’s time to get serious and check out the Stampin’ Up! Last Chance List of retiring products, not only from the Annual Catalog but also from the Spring Mini Catalog. There still are a lot of bargains available! Did you know you can sort the list by price “Low to High” in the upper right, just below the title of the page? Hope you find some great deals for you!

Playing In The Rain Fox Card

Playing In the Rain Fox Card

When I decided to make several cards for my blog and for my stamping newsletter with this Rain Or Shine Suite in the Spring Mini Catalog because they were forecasting some bad weather here in Houston, I didn’t realize what was coming down the pike, as they say. We were fine at our house, no worries, but we did have really heavy rain in the afternoon and the wind was blowing like crazy. The TV was beeping with those loud buzzes of weather warnings, and text messages about thunderstorms, possible tornadoes, and street flooding possible. We got a little less than two inches of rain and a couple of dead branches knocked off our big tree, but that was all. However, on the other side of town a damaging tornado struck and we learned a new term, “Tornado Emergency”. Apparently, it’s been around several years but never used in Houston. I think basically it means a real tornado has been spotted on the ground and you better take cover NOW! So lots of people today are having to figure out how to get their lives back in order after suffering through some pretty bad damage over in southeast Houston.

However, this foxy guy must live on our side of town where we just had light rain in the morning and no damage in the afternoon. It’s actually a slight copy of the sample in the Spring Mini, but not exactly. The card base is Mango Melody with a layer of “the other side” of the Rain Or Shine 12″ x 12″ Specialty Designer Series Paper. I love this plaid with just the even lines in Mango Melody. Even though it is “raining” on the card, the color and paper design makes it look “happy”!

The “rainy” piece of designer paper is cut at 2 1/4″ x 5 1/4″. If you can’t see it in the photo, the raindrops have a special coating on them to make them shiny, as do some other images in this pack of paper. Just adhere this rainy paper to the left on the card front.

The little fox is stamped in Memento ink from the Playing In the Rain Stamp Set. I colored him in with Stampin’ Blends Markers. I used Cajun Craze and Ivory for the fox, Mint Macaron for his jacket and hat, and Highland Heather for his umbrella. There is a die for him in the Playing in the Rain Dies. Get the stamp set and dies in the Playing in the Rain Bundle and save 10% by buying them together. He is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals just off the edge of the rain paper.

The greeting is in another stamp set, Celebrating You. It was the perfect size to be die cut with the almost square die in the Stitched Rectangles. It is adhered flat on the card.

For finishing touches, I cut out a line of flowers from the flower paper in the Rain Or Shine DSP and adhered it to the bottom of the rainy paper. Two butterflies were cut out with the Playing in the Rain Dies and I colored on them a little bit with Stampin’ Blends. The teeny tiny flowers stuck around the card are the Loose Daisy Embellishments. They are very teeny tiny so besides gluing them down with a teeny tiny drop of glue, you could also use them in a Shaker Card. Did I mention they are small?!

This was a fun card to make and I daresay the whole Rain Or Shine Suite Collection is fun! The dies have extra pieces like a fence, butterflies, grass, a kite, and unopened umbrella and more. You really can plan a “scene” for your card or project using all these fun products!

Rain or Shine Just For You Card

Rain or Shine Just For You Card

There are a lot of fun products in the Stampin’ Up! Spring Mini Catalog and one of them is the Rain Or Shine Suite Collection, especially the Rain or Shine Specialty Designer Series Paper. Not only do some of the sheets have cute characters on them, as I used on this Rain or Shine Just For You Card, but each sheet has a touch of a glossy coating, even on the raindrops, to add a little shine and interest!

To make this card, I started with choosing one of the whimsical characters on the designer paper and it happened to be this brown bunny dancing in the rain! It is a killer to cut into this cute paper but it must be done! I cut out this bunny leaving as wide a margin as I could around him and tried to find a die to cut him out for the card. One circle die just missed on one side so I ended up just trimming him out with my Paper Trimmer into a rectangle. Next, I tried to find a diecut to layer my rectangle on but nothing was a perfect fit. When I tried turning this Stylish Shapes square die, I thought my bunny fit perfectly on the diecut and was a different look!

The card base is Flirty Flamingo cardstock as is the square layer under the bunny. The background layer of the card is the opposite side of the designer paper with the characters. That piece was difficult to cut and use since I knew the cute animals were on the other side not seeing the light of day! But those are the sacrifices we papercrafters have to make with double-sided paper!! I love the striped pattern so I had to use it! To help it stand out a bit I added a layer of Basic White first on the card base. I popped up this die cut with Stampin’ Dimensionals and then the bunny is adhered flat on the square.

The greeting is from the Celebrating You Stamp Set. I love a greeting like “Just For You” or “Thinking of You” because you can use that on SO many kinds of cards. This greeting is stamped in Flirty Flamingo ink and die cut with a banner die also in the Stylish Shapes Dies. It is popped up on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For a finishing touch, I added two pinkish sequins in the Pastel Adhesive-Backed Sequins to the side corners of the square diecut. Although you can’t see it in the photo, the shiny coating is on the pink jacket of the bunny, on the raindrops, and outlining the rain puddle. The little flowers were also scattered on the designer paper with the characters so I cut some out by hand and adhered them on the sides of the rain puddle. I thought they added just another tiny little something to the design of the card.

Here is another card, my first card I made with this Suite, using the turtle and actually diecutting him using one of the many dies.

You really must check out the Rain or Shine Suite and choose all or some of the products for making fun and happy cards that not only will brighten the recipients day when they receive it but will brighten your day as you create these cards and projects with these products!

Playing in the Rain Turtle Card

Playing in the Rain Turtle Card

It’s a new year and almost time for a new Stampin’ Up! Spring Mini Catalog, so here’s a new Playing in the Rain Turtle Card! This little turtle isn’t playing in the rain but some of his friends are in the Rain or Shine Suite Collection in the new catalog coming January 5th! That’s right, just a few more days until a new Stampin’ Up! catalog goes LIVE and we all love that!

Plus, it will be Sale-A-Bration 2023, the biggest promotion that Stampin’ Up! has annually! With every $50 you spend, you earn a FREE product in the Sale-A-Bration brochure, no limits! With a $100 purchase there are a couple of special items you could choose instead of two $50 level items but it’s all your choice. Just think in increments of $50 if you can when you shop to get as many free products as you can! (Before tax and shipping, of course!)

This Rain or Shine Suite was one that I chose during the Demonstrator pre-order because the little animals in the stamp set and designer paper were so cute and fun! And we all need to make some “fun” cards to send out to bring a smile to someone’s face, not to mention our own as we make the card! The Suite contains a Bundle of stamps and dies, a Raindrops Embossing Folder, tiny little daisy embellishments, and very cute designer paper with some images having a UV Coating that adds some shine.

To make this card, I used one of the sample cards on the catalog pages to copy. That card is a “slimline” card, taller and narrower than most cards. My card is the usual size so it looks a little different. Sometimes using a card sample in the catalog is a good way to get your creativity flowing.

This card has a Balmy Blue card base I use a strip of the Rain or Shine Specialty Designer Series Paper which has the sky, clouds and flowers. I trimmed it down and separated the clouds and flowers to fit my card the best. I wanted the turtle to be standing in the field of daisies with the sky behind him so I have two pieces of paper on the card front. After I trimmed off a little of the top of the sky portion I noticed the other side had the Mango Melody plaid design. The catalog sample uses a wider piece but I just used it across the seam of where my sky and flowers meet.

The turtle, in the Playing in the Rain Stamp Set, is stamped with Memento Ink and colored with Stampin’ Blends in Old Olive and Granny Apple Green. The little daisy is colored with Daffodil Delight and a center of Cajun Craze. I was prepared to cut him out with scissors, but there is a die in the Playing in the Rain Dies! There are lots of fun dies in this set to play with! You can buy the stamp set and dies in the Playing in the Rain Bundle and save 10%! (Notice the same name for the stamp set and dies??!)

The greeting is stamped with Mossy Meadow ink and die cut with a small scalloped Layering Circles die. I thought it would be fun to add a bow to the Mango Melody strip. For embellishments, I used the very small Loose Daisy Embellishments on the greeting.

As I looked at the sample card in the catalog again, I noticed that they had some popped-up clouds in the sky and I felt my card needed a little something in the top portion. I was prepared, again, to hand-cut some clouds out of the designer paper, but lo and behold, there is a die that cuts out a certain group of three clouds from the paper!

Be sure to take care lining up the die so you don’t cut off the UV coating that outlines the cloud shape. After cutting out the clouds, I popped them up on the top of the card. I could have popped them up directly over the printed clouds on the paper.

Although it’s supposed to be a rainy, stormy day here in Houston, I chose to make this sunny, happy day card. Whether you choose rain or shine with this suite, you will be making a cute card! Get ready for the January-April 2023 (Spring Mini) Catalog to go live on Wednesday, January 5th, and for Sale-A-Bration to begin the same day! Circle that date on your calendar for sure!
