A Paper Quilt Card for National Quilting Day 2016

A Paper Quilt Card for National Quilting Day 2016

Here is a paper quilt card to help celebrate National Quilting Day 2016 today! This card demonstrates that we cardmakers can make something resembling a quilt. This is just a simple square block pattern I chose to make, but you can also make cards resembling the more complicated quilt patterns that are out there. If you look closely at the card photo, you will see that I also embossed the “quilt” with the Lovely Lace Textured Embossing Folder  and the Big Shot.  I think this gives the paper the look of actual quilting – but certainly is a lot easier on a card than a real quilt!  I urge you to use a quilt pattern today or sometime soon as inspiration for a card you are making!

The card base is the Lost Lagoon Card Stock with a Whisper White layer. I punched squares of paper with the 1″ Square Punch and adhered the squares to the Whisper White.  The greeting at the bottom is from the stamp set Birthday Blooms.  I love the greetings and design in this stamp set. The designer paper I chose to use for the “quilt” is from the Sale-A-Bration Brochure on page 12 called Wildflower Fields Designer Series Paper (#141022). You can earn this paper FREE with a $50 Stampin’ Up! purchase!

If you are a stamper or papercrafter, I bet, like me, you have also dabbled in other crafts, perhaps quilting. I did make a quilt years ago for my son when I found some antique-looking baseball fabric in a quilt shop. It is rather unusual to find fabric for boys so this caught my eye. I made the quilt top and had it machine quilted. The quilt top wasn’t perfect, but it was the one and only quilt I made from “scratch”.  I was just glad to get it completely finished! I think a lot of crafts have cross-overs, so it is possible to honor quilting on National Quilting Day even if our craft is stamping. Make a quilt card with your paper, ink and stamps instead of fabric! It certainly is easier!

Coaster Board Magnets

Coaster Board Magnets

These little Coaster Board magnets are an idea that I found in our latest issue of Stampin’ Success, a magazine sent to us demonstrators every quarter. I’ve mentioned this magazine a lot in the past, one of my favorite perks of being a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator!  We used to get an issue every month, but unfortunately, times change, and now we get it once a quarter. But it is still a fun source of stamping ideas and business tips.

You might not even know what Coaster Board is or that Stampin’ Up! carries it! What in the world is Coaster Board??! Stampin’ Up! describes it as thinner than chipboard but sturdier than cardstock. It makes it the perfect material for any projects where you want something stronger than cardstock. You can stamp it, die cut it, and make 3D projects with it.

These magnets are cut 2 1/2″ x 2″. Of course you can make yours any size you want. I was going for small and cute! Decorate the front like a tiny card or adhere a photograph, attach embellishements or do some stamping on them! Then just attach a magnetic strip on the back (you can pick up all kinds of magnets for crafts at a craft store). This is a good way to use up some of your small scraps, leftover embellishments, etc. etc. Just have fun with it!

Coaster Board also works really well with the Berry Basket Die to make baskets that are stronger than cardstock. You can see the basket I made and the details HERE in this post.

St. Patrick’s Day Gift Bag and Tag

St. Patrick's Day Gift Bag and Tag

If you have a little treat for someone today on St. Patrick’s Day, you might want to make a little St. Patrick’s Day Gift Bag and Tag like this one!  I pulled out the Stampin’ Up! Gift Bag Punch Board and the Shine On Specialty Designer Series Paper.  This paper has a printed pattern on one side and shiny pattern on the other side, so that presents a dilemma of which side to use because you will like both sides! This is heavier kraft paper so great to use for boxes and bags and such.

The tag is first punched with the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch with Cucumber Crush card stock which matches the Shine On DSP. To make the little pot of gold, I punched a circle of black with the 1 3/8″ Circle Punch and cut it in half. You could use a larger circle punch or even a large oval punch if you wanted a bigger pot.  The rim and two legs on the pot are punched from the Word Window Punch.  What would we do without the Word Window Punch?!! For the gold coins, I pulled sequins off the Gold Sequin Trim.  The greeting is from the Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Set and the word “lucky” is from the And Many More Stamp Set. I inked up only the word Lucky on the stamp (it says Lucky You) and punched it out with the Word Window Punch. To make it smaller, I inserted the punched out piece back into one side of the punch coming in from the top so just the one end would get punched. It fits perfectly on the pot of gold!

So there you go! Make someone a St. Patrick’s Day Gift Bag and Tag and surprise them!

Stampin’ Up! Garden in Bloom Thank You Card

Garden in Bloom Thank You Card

This Garden in Bloom thank you card was not what I planned to post today, but a catalog I got in the mail yesterday gave me all kinds of inspiration, and this is one of the cards that came out of that. The catalog has a lot of bold designs, lots of black and white and bright colors with some pastels. There is often gold as an accent. I actually made another card with black and white and red with gold. But as I was digging through my stack of card stock sitting out, I saw this Pool Party card stock and decided some Pool Party flowers would be pretty for spring along with gold over the Pool Party color. So even if you think you have an idea in your head, your idea can go in a different direction in a second! Who knows?!

This card is made with the Whisper White Thick Card Stock and opens on the side, for a change. I layered a 2″ strip of Pool Party at the bottom and overlaid with a piece of Gold Fancy Designer Vellum Foil. I stamped some flowers from the Garden in Bloom Stamp Set and adhered a strip of Gold Foil across the middle. (The Gold Foil Sheets are on the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals this week!)

The greeting is from the One Big Meaning Stamp Set and was perfect to use since it was little and could fit on the vellum without covering up the little gold hearts. You could use this card for any occasion!  The layout is one of the simplest you can do when you are making a card.

If you need any supplies to make a card similar to my Garden in Bloom Thank You Card, just shop my Stampin’ Up! Online Store!

Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals

Stampin' Up! Weekly Deal Mar 2016

Here are the new Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals for March 15 – 21, 2016.  Lots of interesting things this week!

The Cherry on Top Cotton Paper Assortment is very pretty and fun to use to make flowers, pom poms, treat bags, envelopes, lots of things! You get four each of these pretty colors: Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Cucumber Crush, and Watermelon Wonder, all in 12″ x 12″ sheets. Use the Fringe Scissors with it to make certain flowers to fringe on projects!

The Festive Flower Punch was first introduced in the past Holiday Catalog for making poinsettias. But now, in the Occasions Catalog, it coordinates with the Friends and Flowers Stamp Set. And in fact, you CAN still purchase the Reason for the Season Stamp Set to go with the punch as it was carried over to the Occasions Catalog. It’s actually cheaper if you want the Bundle with the stamp set and punch, to purchase the Reason for the Season Photopolymer Bundle, than to get them separately even with the punch on sale!

The Fringe Scissors are just a fun tool to own! I used mine the other day, not for grass, not for flowers, not for fringe – but for shredding!! I had just a few papers going in the trash that I thought might be better if I shredded part of the personal info on them. Being too lazy to go drag out the shredder, I just used my Fringe Scissors to cut up the papers! You wouldn’t want to tackle a whole stack of paper this way, but it worked for the little bit I had! Just cut both ways and you have teeny tiny pieces. Or make confetti this way!!

The Gold Foil Sheets I have used a lot in my projects!  Sometimes it is nice just to have that little bit of gold on a card or project! Get some extra at this price just to keep on hand for when the need arises! (The Silver Foil Sheets are also pictured but this deal is just on the Gold sheets.)

The Happy Patterns Decorative Masks are just one of those extras you might enjoy playing with. Use the masks (stencils) to decorate backgrounds for a little extra fun! Spritz or rub on color or use in various other ways. Not an essential, but if you are a little more artsy, you might having another tool in your Stampin’ Up! arsenal!

Only two more weeks left of Sale-A-Bration! Go over your Wish List and see what else you want while you can get something for FREE with a $50 purchase – with EACH $50 purchase!  No limit! At $150 you will receive Hostess Benefits as well, even without hosting a party! If you need just a little extra to reach the $50, consider something from the Clearance Rack or the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals.

Make a St. Patrick’s Day Card

St. Patrick's Day Bloomin' Love Heart Card

It’s time to make some St. Patrick’s Day cards if you are Irish or have some Irish friends or family! St. Patrick’s Day is Thursday, March 17 so it is coming soon! You don’t always have to have the exact stamp for the theme. If you just look through your supplies, you will almost always find something you can substitute that will still express the occasion. For example, I just had this Bloomin’ Heart Thinlit Die in mind for a St. Patrick’s Day card even though you might think it’s not quite the right thing.  But I colored it green, so I think it works perfectly!  And certainly is pretty in person!

I die cut the Bloomin’ Heart out of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper and then colored the heart with my Aqua Painter and Cucumber Crush Ink Refill. You can experiment with how light or dark you want to color your heart because it likely will dry a little lighter than the color goes on. But you can go back and add more color if you want. Most likely, it will come out a little varigated because you won’t get the exact amount of color over each area.

The card base is Cucumber Crush with a Gold Foil Sheets by Stampin’ Up! layer and Shimmery White on top of that.  I liked the Shimmery White to match the glimmer paper.  I also stamped some flowers from the Bloomin’ Love Photopolymer Stamp Set and die cut with the Bloomin’ Heart Thinlits Dies. They are adhered to the heart with Mini Glue Dots. To add a little bling, I added some Rhinestone Jewels to the flower centers.

I didn’t have an shamrock stamps, but you can make your own shamrocks with hearts as I did on the bottom portion of this card. They are punched with the Hearts Border Punch. Just put three or four together and draw in the stem with a green Stampin’ Write Marker.

The greeting is from Teeny Tiny Wishes, one of my favorite stamp sets! It DOES have a “Happy St. Patrick’s Day” stamp, but if you don’t own this stamp set, you might have a difficult time finding that greeting. In another stamp set, I found the words “Lucky You” and I thought that would work also.  So if you ever don’t have the exact right thing, just look and see what you do have that will work just fine!

Remember, today is the last day for these Stampin’ Up! Weekly DealsPick up several packages of Rhinestone Jewels at a discount! Balloon Celebration Congratulations Card

Balloon Celebration Congratulations Card

I always say it’s good to have stars for making all kinds of cards and now I think I could say the same about balloons, such as this Balloon Celebration Congratulations Card. Balloons can be used for birthdays, for congratulations, for a party invitation, for kids, for babies, for all kinds of occasions! Whether you have the Balloon Celebration Photopolymer Bundlecomplete with the Balloon Celebration Stamp Set and the Balloon Bouquet Punch, or even just one of those, you can stamp or punch balloons for cards or gifts or other projects with so many themes.

For this card, I stamped the balloons by “stamping off” one time on scrap paper to make the ink lighter and then overstamped with the shading dots. Then the balloons were punched out with the Balloon Bouquet Punch. You can get two sizes of balloons with this punch! The strings are stamped or you could just draw them in, depending on your placement. I stamped the word “Congratulations” from the stamp set and made a banner, inking the edges a bit.  For a bit more oomph, I punched some Gold Glimmer Stars with the star punch in the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack. I could have also stamped some very small stars included in the stamp set.

While it is nice, if you are on Facebook, to see a whole list of birthday greetings from all your Facebook friends, wouldn’t it be even nicer to go to your mailbox on your birthday and find it filled with a stack of birthday cards (and not bills and credit card applications!)?! Put this #imbringingbirthdaysback Stamp #143573 on your Stampin’ Up! order and be part of the movement to Bring Birthdays Back! Let’s send real cards to our friends and family! Let them have the treat of finding a real birthday card in their mailbox on their birthday! Use this stamp to stamp the back of the card or the envelope to encourage others to participate!

This is how I remember birthdays growing up, when the mailman “knew” it was someone’s birthday because they got a whole bunch of mail! As a child I would often get a dollar or two or three enclosed in each card from family friends and relatives far and wide. Now why do I even remember that? It’s because I remember going out to the mailbox and finding that birthday mail, maybe even talking to the mailman (his name was Ed!), opening all those cards, setting them up on the piano, writing thank you notes when I got a gift, etc. And I might add, seeing the handwritten note in the card and the signature of the person, the real handwritten signature! People these days do not even sign their Christmas cards, they are all printed! Quicker for sure, but I think we are losing the personal touch! Your handwriting is so important! (But that’s a soapbox for another day!) Do you remember all the birthday greetings you got last year on Facebook?  Probably not!

Shannon West, from the Stampin’ Up! Home Office and one of our favorite presenters at Stampin’ Up! events, awhile back decided to do something about this and started sending birthday cards to friends and family and received hundreds of requests on her Facebook page for a birthday card in the mail. She actually made a stamp with the hashtag #imbringingbirthdaysback. Sara Douglass, Interim CEO of Stampin’ Up!, asked how Stampin’ Up! could support her effort and ended up making the stamp Shannon had designed. Last week the stamp was released, but it sold out in only four hours!  Today it is back in the Online Store and you can put it on your regular Stampin’ Up! order!

Playful Pals Easter Bunny Pyramid Treat Box

Playful Pals Easter Bunny Pyramid Treat Box

If you get the Playful Pals Photopolymer Bundle, which includes the Playful Pals Stamp Set and the Pyramid Pals Thinlits Dies, and you spend some time playing with it, you will just become more and more creative playing with all the stamps and dies and thinking of all the possibilities, such as my Playful Pals Easter Bunny Pyramid Treat Box.  I didn’t even know if there were proper “ears” in the set, but there were, and then I die cut a bunny ear out of orange card stock for a carrot and a green piece that is probably most like a frog’s foot for the leafy top of the carrot. I just drew in the little lines on the carrot and the leafy top with a black marker.  A lot of times I find that the more I sit and play with my stamps and accessories, the more ideas I can come up with.

Bunnies aren’t just for Easter!  You could make Playful Pals bunnies out of other colors, even designer paper, just for fun.  How cute will they be for babies or baby showers or gifts?! Little kids will like them as a birthday party favor.

With this Playful Pals Photopolymer Bundle, you can just stamp on the pyramid box or you can stamp and use die cuts to make things a little more 3D. So many possibilities! You can copy ideas you find online, but I also challenge you to just play and stamp and stamp and play and see what you come up with all the little pieces and parts!

Don’t forget the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals that end tomorrow!  You might for sure want the Ornate Tag Topper Punch and especially the very cute Tin of Cards Project Kit by Stampin’ Up! You might also want to add the Tin of Cards Photopolymer Stamp Set that has great greetings and little doodles that I’ve used on other projects, not just the Tin of Cards.

If you want to make fun little animals and other projects like my Playful Pals Easter Bunny Pyramid Treat Box, be sure to check out my Stampin’ Up! Online Store HERE.

Circle of Spring Wreath Easter Card

Circle of Spring Wreath Easter Card

If you are looking for a nice card to make, you might have overlooked the stamp set with which I made this Circle of Spring Wreath Easter card. The stamp set Circle of Spring is in the main Stampin’ Up! catalog on page 77. It’s a beautiful spring-like flowered wreath stamp and plenty of greetings as well as a bow and a flower.  Just stamp the wreath as I did on this card and color in or stamp it and die cut with the Wonderful Wreath Framelits Dies.

On this card, I simply stamped the wreath with Stazon ink on Whisper White cardstock and colored in the leaves and flowers with various Stampin’ Write markers.  Sometimes I used the marker itself to color and sometimes I scribbled marker ink on an acrylic block and picked it up with my Aqua Painter and watercolored. I stamped the bow, die cut it with the framelits die, and used Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere to the card.

The Whisper White layer was to go on the So Saffron card base, but I felt it needed something. I decided to cut very thin strips of Melon Mambo card stock and very carefully glue the strips down on the card front. My Grid Paper sure came in handy to line it up.

Happiness is having a table full of markers and cardstock on the table and just coloring and relaxing! And at the end, I had this easy Easter card made with the Circle of Spring stamp set.

March Comes in Like a Lion Playful Pals Card and Pyramid Box

March Comes in Like a Lion Playful Pals Card and Pyramid Box

The saying goes, “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.” I don’t know if that saying will be true today or not for where I live and where you live, but I made some lions with the Playful Pals Photopolymer Bundle of stamps and dies in honor of March 1st.

Help Bring Birthdays Back!

Maybe you recall THIS STORY posted on the Stampin’ Up! blog a little while ago about Shannon West, an employee at the Stampin’ Up! Home Office, realizing that people were just posting their holiday and birthday greetings on social media and not sending cards, and she decided to do something about it.  Stampin’ Up! joined in and now we have a new stamp that you can purchase and use on your cards or envelopes as Shannon is doing!

Here is a photo Sara Douglass, Interim CEO of Stampin’ Up!, posted on Facebook yesterday of the new stamp.  You can put Item #143573 on your Stampin’ Up! order.  The cost is $12.00. Right now it says the stamp is on backorder, but if you want it, I would put it on your order anyway. Maybe they just don’t have them all delivered to the warehouse yet for shipping.
