Pennant Parade Christmas Tree Card

Pennant Parade Silver Christmas Tree Card

The stamp set "Pennant Parade" and the matching punch "Petite Pennants" work together to make a great Christmas card. I'm not sure how I got red Christmas trees, but I was envisioning the red alongside the Silver Glimmer Paper!  Oh well!  The card still looks Christmas-y for sure! You can see a little extra ink from the edge of the tiny star stamp….but it almost looks like glow lines from the star so maybe I'll just add some on the other side!  As I heard someone say the other day, if you have a mistake it lets the person know it is truly handmade! But since there are no mistakes in stamping, I can probably "fix" my boo boo somehow!

For my Convention swap, I just eyeballed things, but today I did use my Stamp-a-ma-jig #101049 to get everything placed where I wanted.  It's a great tool to have on hand because you WILL use it.

As I've said before, the Silver Glimmer Paper #124005 is so beautiful but a photograph just doesn't do it justice.  You'll want it!

Spooky Halloween Tree Card

Spooky Halloween Tree Card

This Spooky Halloween Tree card was so much fun to make!  I used Glossy White card stock #102599 so that I could do lots of sponging of color. I wanted a big moon in the sky so the silhouette of the tree would show.

The way you make the moon is with the 2 1/2" Circle Punch #120906 and post-it notes….or at least some sort of circle stencil. I punched a hole in a post-it note with some sticky on the back.  First I placed the punched-out piece down like a stencil to color in the moon.  I used a sponge and several colors of yellow classic ink with a touch of Pumpkin Pie.  Then I removed the stencil piece and stuck on the circle I had punched as a mask to cover the moon I had just sponged.  That way I could sponge the background sky without getting ink on the moon. I just used different blues…I think Pacific Point, Not Quite Navy and Night of Navy…with a little Pumpkin Pie thrown in and maybe some yellow.

Next I stamped the tree from Season of Friendship #111776, the bats and the word "spooky" from Wicked Cool #120600 (clear).  The owl I stamped in Chocolate Chip from Spooky Bingo Bits #123946 (clear) and cut him out with my Paper Snips. The Halloween greeting is from Teeny Tiny Wishes.

It was really fun to play with all those colors and doing the sponging.  So if you need some Halloween stamping supplies, be sure to go to my Online Store HERE and place your order!

Halloween Craft: Crazy Halloween Monster Face Card

Crazy Halloween Monster card

If you are looking for ideas for a Halloween craft or Halloween crafts for kids, I think something like this Halloween card would be fun! Basically just use some paper scraps and punches or scissors and make a monster face!

I was planning to make some simple Halloween card and opened a magazine to get some ideas.  The magazine had glass jars filled with candy and then some monster face features pasted on the glass jar.  I got the idea to make a card instead and came up with this!  I guess it is a form of "punch art" since I grabbed a variety of my Stampin' Up! punches and just had a creative moment!

See if you can figure out what punches I used!

World Card Making Day…..Make a Card for Someone!

Halloween Doily Card

Today, October 1 is World Card Making Day!  This is the day to celebrate card makers from around the world as we begin the busy crafting season of fall and leading into the holidays.  Why not grab some of your stamping supplies and make a card for someone?  Now if you would hate to actually send a card you went to the trouble to make, maybe you should make two…..keep one, send one!  But as long as you have all your stuff out, why not make three cards, and then you'll have an extra…after you send one and keep one!  We can never have too many cards!

Here is a card I sort of challenged myself to make.  I sat looking at the doilies poking out of the Flirtacious Specialty Paper #122360….yes, you get a whole page of doilies….you can cut them apart or use them how you want. I wondered if I could make a Halloween card with a Melon Mambo doily!  Well, yes, I could!  I got out my Color Coach to see what colors would coordinate with Melon Mambo and there they were….Elegant Eggplant and Old Olive!

If you don't feel you have any creative ideas, just find a picture in a magazine or a design on your clothes or in the store and use those colors or shape to make your card.  It really works!

Happy Card Making Day!

Button Buddies Snowman Cards

The new Stampin' Up! Button Buddies stamp set is really fun to play with!  In the newest edition of Stampin' Success, the Stampin' Up! publication for demonstrators (and one of the many reasons to become a Stampin' Up! demonstrator!) the Button Buddies stamp set was featured.  I loved the card with cherries on it but I liked the snowman stamp featured on a little box.  So I decided to make this card, somewhat copying the cherry one in the magazine. (You don't even need to be creative to be a Stampin' Up! demonstrator….this magazine gives you more ideas than you can use!)

Stampin' Up! Snowman Button Buddies Christmas Card

But I didn't like it so much!  I thought the Certainly Celery layer behind the snowman would give the card that soft look, but when I had to cover up the messed up stamped greeting right on the card in the lower right with the punched pieces, I guess I should have used Certainly Celery again for the scallop punch.  I didn't like the red down there and the light green up above.  Anyway, I just didn't like the card.

So I made this instead:

Stampin' Up! Button Buddies Snowman 3x3 Card

It's just a little 3"x 3" card but I loved it!  So cute! (I think that particular button is a retired one.)  You could make it as just a tag for Christmas gifts or make a large size card with a greeting.  Fun to make and easy to do!

To order the Button Buddies stamp set in either wood-mount or clear, just go to my Online Store by clicking THIS LINK.  Don't forget to order some buttons, too….lots of them, because once you start making Button Buddies, you probably can't stop!

First Day of Fall! Here’s an Autumn Splendor Card to Celebrate!

It MUST be fall now because there was a tinge of coolness in the air this morning….and it's usually hot and humid forever here in Houston.  But it is actually only about 74 this morning and perhaps will stay below 90. Now that's FALL! It's great that it feels a little like fall on the first day of fall!

Autumn Splendor First Day of Fall Card

Here is a card made with the stamp set Autumn Splendor. I love the design of these fall leaves in this stamp set I stamped with Black Stazon and colored in with Blender Pens and Classic Ink. Nothing properly artistic about it, just filling in with color to make them look like fall leaves and acorns….it was so relaxing!  The card base is River Rock (which you can barely see due to the background) with Spice Cake Designer Series Paper. The ribbon is Very Vanilla 5/8" Satin Ribbon ruffled with some Sticky Strip and an Antique Brad (gotta order more of those beautiful things!).

When I finished this card, I absolutely LOVED it! (if I do say so myself!) The leaves in this stamp set are so beautiful…I bought it after our fall trip to New England two years ago.  You can't go wrong with the Spice Cake paper or fabric.  As I added the embellishments, it all just seemed to come together.  Stampin' Up! products always "come together" eventually, but this one was one of the extra-easy ones!

If you would like to learn about these techniques and others in stamping or scrapbooking, contact me at Karen@Karenstamps.com to set up a workshop with your friends!

Enjoy your first day of the fall season!

Have You Seen the Price of Bacon Lately??

Maybe I missed the price of bacon slowly creeping up. Maybe I already had a stockpile of bacon and hadn't bought any recently. I don't know what happened, but I was shocked to discover that the price of bacon had skyrocketed to $7.00 a package!  It didn't seem any cheaper even at Walmart or any other grocery stores. So even I did not buy a package of bacon at that price…but then I hadn't run out yet.  Finally I found one brand on sale to tide me over.  I think an alarm would go off on my refrigerator if there wasn't bacon in there!

So speaking of bacon, have you seen the Stampin' Up! stamp set Button Buddies that you can stamp and then add a button?! It's really cute but I hadn't gotten to use it yet.

What on earth does bacon have to do with stamping?  Well, until there is a bacon stamp, I'll just have to make this connection with the little pig in Button Buddies!  Here's a little card with the pig and a button!

Button Buddy Pig Card

In doing some research on this issue, I found that the price of pork bellies did skyrocket, due to high corn prices forcing hog farmers to pare their herd because of the high feed costs.

So if you find a sale on bacon, you better stock up so you'll have bacon available for those BLTs!  There are other bacon flavored products out there, but you can't fool me. Nothing like the real thing!

And nothing like the best stamping inks, papers, stamps and accessories either from Stampin' Up!  Stock up now on your favorite stamping supplies!  You never know! Shop HERE today!

Using the Spooky Bingo Bits stamp set from Stampin' Up! is so much fun I might have to go make another Halloween card like this one!  I also used two kinds of designer series paper….Pick Your Poison in the Holiday Mini Catalog and Frightful Sight in the Stampin' Up! 2011-2012 Idea Book & Catalog.  The greeting is from Wicked Cool, another very popular and fun Halloween stamp set!

Here is the inside I stamped!

Gently Falling Leaf Card

Gently Falling Leaf Card

A leaf and these colors make us think of fall.  Amazingly, here in Houston we have actually been having weather that makes us think fall is possible, in the near future, here! I still can't believe that we went from 100+ degree days, for days on end, to very comfortable, cooler, dry days.  It's almost jacket-weather here early in the mornings!

The only thing taking away from fully enjoying this beautiful weather is the knowledge that many people in Texas right now are suffering with all the wildfires. Today in Houston we can smell the smoke as a haze settled over the city from miles away due to our cooler morning temperatures. But that is nothing compared to what the people in counties north of Houston and farther west in Bastrop, Texas have to deal with having to evacuate their homes and not knowing if they have any home to go back to.  And many don't. If only the Northeast could send some of their rain down to Texas!  If anyone knows how to do a raindance, come to Texas!

This card is made with Soft Suede card stock and the beautiful, gorgeous Spice Cake Designer Series Paper.  The leaf is stamped with the Gently Falling stamp set.  My leaf actually didn't stamp properly…I forgot to check if I had inked up the center of the stamp well enough…but rather than do it over, I just sponged in some Pear Pizzazz ink in the center, which makes it look more realistic anyway!  See, there are no mistakes in stamping!  I actually "CASED" this card from the Holiday Mini on page 16, except made mine a little larger…and no time to find a button! Love that Spice Cake paper!!

Easy Events Flower Card

Easy Events Flower Card

Today is the last day of August (I don't know how that can be!), the last day for the Stampin' Up! Summer Mini Catalog, the last day for the Strength & Hope Promotion, and the last day for the Buy 3 Get 1 Free Designer Paper Promotion. Time flies when you're having fun!

This card is made with the Easy Events stamp set….I stamped one of the images three times without the words at the bottom of the stamp…and colored in with Stampin' Write Markers.  For the card background, I used the fun Just Add Cake Designer Series Paper #124339. I think it makes a happy card! Along with the Baja Breeze Seam Binding Ribbon #122331 and the new Designer Printed Brads #122940!

I'll add a sentiment later if I want, or I might just use it to write a happy note to a friend!

If you haven't stocked up on the new Designer Series Paper yet, today is your last day to place an order.  After you put in three packs of paper, the fourth will be free.  Or email me your order and I'll take care of it.  This promotion includes the paper that sells for $10.95 (not the Specialty Designer Series Paper).

And check that Summer Mini Catalog one more time!

Back to School with My Digital Studio

My Digital Studio Back to School

It's so easy to just play around with My Digital Studio.  I just picked a design that was already made and then changed the colors of the background paper, the colors of the rectangles, the colors of the flowers and brads, changed the greeting, added some stars and the alphabet and I had a little "back to school" card.  That might sound like a lot, but I didn't have to think about a design and just a few clicks changes colors or embellishments.

If you have any questions about My Digital Studio, just ask!

Stampin’ Up! Convention Swap–Doily Snowflakes

Doily Snowflakes

Back to the Stampin' Up! Convention for a moment!  This was my swap card for a group swap I was in.  I think I made…..63?, 73? of them….and some in kind of a rush as I traveled or in my hotel room…but I was determined to get them done and I did.  And it was worth it for the swaps I got back!

Anyway, don't think doilies are just for decoration…..they can be very pretty snowflakes! These are from the stamp set Delicate Doilies, available in wood- or clear-mount, on page 127 of the Idea Book & Catalog.  I added my favorite ribbon, the 5/8" Whisper White Organza Ribbon #114319 and some bling with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter #102023 and even little Basic Pearls #119247.

Don't these doilies make a beautiful Christmas card?!
