It’s National Donut Day! Celebrate!

National Donut Day Sprinkles of Life Donut Card

You might not have heard but today is National Donut Day!  And you can probably even get a free donut in your neighborhood somewhere!  Just google “National Donut Day” and find a location near you! Dunkin’ Donuts and Krispy Kreme have something going on, Shipley’s here in Houston, but look it up online to see what the conditions are before you go!  Who thinks up these “days”?!

To commemorate National Donut Day, I made this card with three homemade donuts – out of paper! That reminds me, I learned to make my own donuts in Home Ec in 7th or 8th grade out of the canned biscuits. The donut holes were especially good.  I think I made my grandpa a container of donuts for Christmas for a gift!

To make your own paper donuts, you will need a circle punch or two or the Circle Framelits or come circular cutting skills. After all, a donut doesn’t have to be a perfect shape! I cut the two regular donuts out of Crumb Cake card stock and the chocolate donut out of Chocolate Chip card stock.  Then for frosting I did the same, but trimmed it down with my Paper Snips to look like the frosting was spread on top. The chocolate donut has white frosting with Chocolate Chip sprinkles (from the Sprinkles of Life stamp set!). The donut with chocolate frosting was embossed with the Decorative Dots Embossing FolderThe largest donut was punched with the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch and the 3/4″ Circle Punch for the center (punch the center first, then center that hole when you punch with the larger circle punch). I should have just used pink card stock, but I used Whisper White and then colored it with Pink Pirouette reinker and my Aqua Painter. For candies on top I used the Subtles Candy Dots. Love those!  The greeting comes from the Bravo Stamp Set.

Bravo Stamp Set

My card began with a Daffodil Delight card base, but it just needed something. I added a layer of Watermelon Wonder and another layer of a pattern in the Cherry on Top Paper Stack. Such cute papers in there! When you are creating something, if it doesn’t feel right, just keep playing with it and I’m sure you will come up something that feels satisfying and then you know you’ve got it!

Another new stamp set in the new Stampin’ Up! Catalog that would be good for National Donut Day is the Sprinkles on Top Stamp Set. The small images can be candies or donuts!

Go get your free donut, then sit down and do some shopping at the Stampin’ Up! Online Store!

Happy Donut Day!

Bohemian Watercolor Thank You Card

Bohemian Watercolor Thank You Card

Today is the first day for the new Stampin’ Up! Catalog all by itself! The “old” is gone and the “new” is here! My card today uses the new Bohemian Designer Series Paper along with the coordinating In Color Delightful Dijon and a Bermuda Bay card base. This is a very simple card, inspired by (copied!) by one in the new catalog on page 18.

The Bohemian DSP has very bold patterns that you may or may not like, but you can always use a small piece of it if you don’t like the look of a lot of it on a full size card. You can also turn the paper over for a different and smaller pattern! Remember that amazing fact about stamping and papercrafting – there is always the other side of the paper!

If you are tired of cutting the cute little tail on banner pieces, now you can use a punch! The Banner Triple Punch is designed to snip that little tail on the end of banners that are 1″, 1 1/2″ and 2″ wide. I think you can even slide in a narrower strip, like 3/4″ and just center it yourself in the slot.  I think this punch will be very popular!

For my greeting on the card, I used the Watercolor Thank You Stamp.  It is a single wood-mount stamp and has that watercolor look that is SO popular now.  I love the look of it! Then I punched it out with the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch. It is stamped with Bermuda Bay ink. And as in the card in the catalog that I was copying, I tied on a piece of Baker’s Twine and made a little bow. I used the Gold Metallic Baker’s Twine.

Try making a card similar to this one with what you have! It is a quick and easy card!

On my Stampin’ Up! Store website, you might notice the categories in the left side bar are a little different with the new catalog.  For example, to find punches, you need to click on “Paper Cutting and Scoring”. Then more categories will come up to lead you to what you are looking for. I guess that might be obvious to some, but it took me a minute to wonder what they did with the punches!!

If you are already very familiar with Stampin’ Up! products, then you probably have a Demonstrator you like and work with – but if you do not, I would be happy to be yours! Just email me at Karen@KarenStamps.com  if you would like a new catalog if you prefer a hard copy. Otherwise you can view all the products online at my Stampin’ Up! Store or check out the PDF version of the catalog.

Apothecary Art Gold Soiree Birthday Card

Apothecary Art Gold Soiree Birthday Card

It’s time to use Apothecary Art another time while it is on the Stampin’ Up! Retirement List. Such a pretty stamp set to use for many kinds of occasions, from elegant to casual. I chose to stamp the images with Versamark and emboss with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder  and the Heat Tool. The card base is Basic Black card stock, layered with Gold Soiree Specialty Designer Series PaperThis paper is on the Retirement List of Accessories at 50% off! I just cut around the gold embossed image so that it would layer on a piece of Basic Black cut out with the Labels Collection Die (which is no longer available). And then the greeting is just laid across the open space in the middle of the flowery image.

Here are some other samples in the Stampin’ Up! Store:

Chalk Talk Petite Petals For You Card

Chalk Talk Petite Petals For You Card

The Chalk Talk Stamp Set is one that I hate to see retire on June 2nd when the new Stampin’ Up! Catalog comes out. I decided to use it again on this all-occasion card. I think this card even has an elegant look to it that you could use for an invitation, maybe a wedding invitation, or a wedding card. I stamped it with the Rose Coral ColorBox Chalk Ink Pad which I especially liked stamped on the Whisper White card stock. The Chalk Talk Stamp Set also has matching framelits, the Chalk Talk Framelits and you can also buy the stamp set and framelits in a bundle. Surprisingly, and happily, the Chalk Talk Framelits are in the new catalog!

For some extra interest, I decided to also stamp the Petite Petals flowers with the Rose Coral Chalk Ink and punched out with the Petite Petals PunchI have found these little flowers and punch to be so handy on many projects when you just need a little something else. Both Petite Petals Stamp Set and Punch are carrying over to the new catalog! And then I added some Basic Pearls and Rhinestones to the little flowers.

Easy, elegant card to make for almost any occasion. If you are interested in the Chalk Talk Stamp Set be sure to order it by Tuesday, June 2. It is only available in the wood-mount at this point, but that is what I have. I like all three kinds of stamps that Stampin’ Up! carries, but it always feels good to hold a wood block in your hand to stamp!

Once again, here is the Stampin’ Up! Retired List (link below).  You will see an “x” in a box if the item is no longer available, but of course this can change at a moment’s notice.  So if you do not find it in the Online Store, then it probably is no longer available. But email me at Karen@KarenStamps.com if you need help finding something or have any questions.

Make Your Own Cake with Build A Birthday

Make Your Own Cake with Build A Birthday

If you are a cake decorator, or at least a papercraft cake decorator, you will enjoy the new Build A Birthday Stamp Set. Use the rectangular shapes to stamp the various layers, whatever design or size you like. Use one of the shapes for the birthday candle, too. It comes with a cake plate stamp, which I have mostly covered up using the new Mint Macaron In Color Lace Trim. I was experimenting with making a little lace edge on my cake plate, but I think I should have cut it in half or doubled it over so it wouldn’t be so long! I just eyeballed the cake layers, which luckily turned out fine, except there was a tiny space in between the top and second layer.  It really wouldn’t have mattered, but I decided to add a line of Basic Pearls across there that would look like a cake decoration anyway.

Since my cake and candle really took up most of the space on the card, I had to get creative with the greeting. At first I wasn’t sure what I would do, but then I remembered that photopolymer stamps can be bent a little on a curve. I tried that but it was still kind of high up to put over the candle. Next I decided I could just curve each word and color with a marker, just one word at a time and stamp one word on each side of the candle. That worked fine!

The cake layers and marker I used are all the new Stampin’ Up! In ColorsWatermelon Wonder, Delightful Dijon, and Tip Top Taupe for the top “chocolate” layer! The cake plate that you can’t see I stamped with Mint Macaron. The only color I left out is Cucumber Crush. Should have used that for the greeting!  The card base is Mint Macaron.

Remember, Tuesday June 2nd is the day you can order from the new Stampin’ Up! Catalog. On that date you can also order from the current catalogs if you want to do it all together and perhaps take advantage of Hostess Benefits. On June 3rd, only the new catalog will be in effect.

Sprinkles of Life Rainy Day Card

Sprinkles of Life Rainy Day Card

When I began making this card this morning, it was another misty, moisty, rainy morning in Houston, after a flooded day yesterday. Before I could finish the card, though, I decided to race out of the house ahead of another blob of rain on the radar in hopes of making it to my appointment this morning.  By the time I came home, the sun was out and all threats of rain gone from the radar. So after all the clouds, we had a silver lining with a lovely, bright day – at least maybe until afternoon pop-up storms!

If you saw news reports about the floods in Houston yesterday, yes, it was pretty bad. Monday night we saw a line of storms reaching all the way across Texas and up into Oklahoma headed right for us, yet before that line got here, a bad storm formed right over my part of town. When the line of storms finally arrived, it combined with the first storm and wow, it rained and rained and rained, like we haven’t seen in years and didn’t move. Even when we thought it was about over, another storm had formed behind all that and it kept raining all through the night, We were perfectly fine in our house, although this time I wondered if this could be the first time we could get water up in the yard or even into the house somehow.  Thankfully that didn’t even come close to happening, but others weren’t so lucky, waking up to step into water from their beds or hearing the slosh of floodwater waking them up in the night. Certain streets in Houston like to flood just with any rain storm because we are so flat, but this one filled streets and highways, and when the bayous rose tremendous amounts in an hour and overflowed their banks they also filled streets and in some cases homes. People were stranded on the roads overnight waiting for the water to go down, some got caught as the water rose quickly. Quite a mess, not to mention dangerous and deadly for some.

As you can imagine, when we all woke up to more rain and thunder this morning, it was a little unsettling. But these storms went a little more north, sparing those of us inundated the other night, and widespread flooding didn’t seem to be a problem today. Other places in Texas have had it as bad or worse, as you have probably heard. Maybe the drought is over.

So that brings me to the card I was inspired to make this morning using the new Sprinkles of Life stamp set, the set that benefits the Ronald McDonald House Charities. With every set sold, Stampin’ Up! will donate $3 to the charity. I stamped and colored in some of the clouds to look like storm clouds with Smokey Slate and Night of Navy ink, and punched them out with the new Tree Punch, coming in the new Stampin’ Up! Catalog June 2 that coordinates with this stamp set. The tree and leaves are also punched out and lots of raindrops are stamped in the background. Of course if you were making cupcakes, you could use the raindrops as little candies on top if you wanted.  The “sprinkles” stamp I used to stamp over and over to make grass at the bottom of the card with Old Olive ink. And for all the rain coming down, I sponged on Night of Navy ink to look like the sheets of rain we had Monday night. Several greetings come with this stamp set so it is very versatile.  I’m sure you will want to add it to your collection!

You just have through June 2nd to order from the Retiring List, while supplies last. On June 2nd the new catalog also takes effect, so you will have that day only to order from both the old and new catalogs and the outgoing Occasions Catalog! The new catalog should be online that day for your perusal if you don’t have a hard copy of the catalog.

If you do not have a Demonstrator to assist you with Stampin’ Up! products, I would be happy to be yours!  Just send me an email letting me know you are interested in Stampin’ Up! and we can see about getting a new catalog sent to you.

Painted Blooms Hello Card

Painted Blooms Hello Card

When I wrote this post, I didn’t know the Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper would be on the Weekly Deals! So if you are inspired by this card, you can also get the paper and some matching accessories at a discount!

***************

Not much time left now for Stampin’ Up! Retiring products and the end of the Occasions Catalog! Where has the time gone?! Last day to order retiring products is June 2.

Don’t you love this beautiful Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper? As far as I know now, it won’t be around much longer so I thought I should use some of it, and you shouldn’t delay in ordering it! The card base is Pacific Point card stock, and then I used two patterns of the Painted Blooms designs on the front. I LOVE the “hello” stamped on the front from the Hi There Stamp Set. This set is another retiring item, so check it out and see if you want it before it is gone. I tied a bit of my favorite ribbon around the designer paper, Whisper White 5/8″ Organza Ribbon. Luckily it will be sticking around. I love it because it is pretty without being super fancy, it’s white so it goes with most everything, and it could be dyed if you wanted it another color. And then for just a little extra something, I cut out two of the blue flowers from the paper and a leaf and adhered them to the patterned paper.

To check out all the retiring Stampin’ Up! products that are available when you shop, go to my Online Store HERE and click on the Retiring Products link. Then over on the upper right, click the drop down box to say “Show:  ALL” and you’ll be able to scroll through and see everything without clicking to the next page.

Butterfly Mini Treat Bag Birthday Cards for Twins

Butterfly Mini Treat Bag Birthday Card

My twin nieces had a birthday this week so I wanted to make them cards that were almost alike but slightly different. I made both of them pocket cards with the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits DiesThis die is a good investment because you get so many pieces with it besides the treat bag. And you can make more than just treat bags with it. Click the link to see all the dies that come in this set – words, shapes, strips!

The bags are made with the Sweet Taffy Designer Series Paper. Such bright and fun patterns on these papers! The banner and the words at the bottom of the bags are from the same Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies.  The butterflies, of course, are from the Butterflies Thinlits DiesI cut them out of two of the papers in the Sweet Taffy paper and added some Rhinestone Jewels. There’s a little piece of Silver 1/8″ Ribbon attached to the inside card to indicate there is a card inside to pull out.

And here are the cards showing the inside card with birthday greetings!

Butterfly Mini Treat Bag Birthday Card For You

This card is stamped with the cake from a Sale-A-Bration stamp set and the greeting from Fabulous Four Stamp Set.

Butterfly Mini Treat Bag Birthday Card Enjoy

This card is stamped with a greeting from the Fabulous Four Stamp Set and the cupcake from Cupcake Party.

Be sure to notice the handy dandy Handheld Stapler from Stampin’ Up!. I love it! Order the box of Silver Mini Staples, too. It’s great for attaching tags or embellishments or pieces of ribbon like on these cards!

Don’t forget the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals which will end on Monday night. You might get busy with the holiday weekend and forget.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

Stacked With Love Cheerful Critters Congratulations Card

Stacked With Love Cheerful Critters Congratulations Card

The Stacked With Love Designer Series Paper Stack is not just for Valentine’s Day! It’s on the Stampin’ Up! Weekly Deals this week. I wanted to play with my Cheerful Critters Stamp Set that is in the outgoing Occasions Catalog so I used the Stacked With Love Paper Stack to make my card. The Cheerful Critters are all stamped with Stazon ink, colored with Stampin’ Write Markers and cut out with Paper Snips.  Paper Snips make “fussy cutting” fairly easy and not tedious because they can fit into small spaces. I consider them an essential tool!

This stamp set as several cute sayings, like “Let’s Party” and “Hooray”, not to mention “I Like Your Face”. I suppose that’s more of a younger generation saying! Just a fun set to play with and makes great cards for congratulatory and happy situations that you might want to make a card for!

Less than two weeks for the Stampin’ Up! Retiring Products!  Check the lists and get your order in before the last minute rush! If you want to order a combination of retiring and new catalog products, then your day to order is Tuesday, June 2 when all catalogs will be available!

Sneak Peek: Sprinkles of Life Cupcake Birthday Card

Sprinkles of Life Cupcake Birthday Card

My first sneak peek from the new Stampin’ Up! catalog just had to be with the new Sprinkles of Life Stamp Set!  This set is the Ronald McDonald House Charities stamp set. With every purchase of this stamp set, Stampin’ Up! will donate $3 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities! This is such a perfect opportunity for all of us to buy something we love and will enjoy and know that we are helping an important cause.

I think this Sprinkles of Life Stamp Set is one of the best RMHC sets we’ve had. Not only that, but there is a new punch that coordinates with it to punch out some of the elements! On this card I made I punched out the frosting on the cupcakes! But could you also see the frosting as clouds?? Other similar stamps serve as leaves on a tree or a batch of flowers! But maybe they are fancy frosting designs! Lots of possibilities with this stamp set and punch!

The card base is the new In Color Watermelon Wonder.  It’s a very different red, not quite as bright or deep as I was expecting. I was determined to use the new matching 1″ Dotted Lace TrimIt is VERY soft and flexible, not stiff like you might imagine. I ran some Fast Fuse along the bottom edge of the paper on the back and just kind of gathered the lace trim and stuck it down as I went.  No fancy process, just stuck it down, trying to get it rather straight, but not perfect. The designer paper is the new Cherry on Top Designer Series Paper Stack. It’s full of bright, fun and pretty patterns, some clearly for birthday and others for any occasion whatsoever. There is also matching Washi Tape! And to decorate the cupcakes a little bit, I had to use a bit of Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, adhered with the 2-Way Glue Pen. One of my favorites!

The new catalog will be out soon, June 2nd is the big day!  But don’t forget about the outgoing stamps and accessories!  It is probably easiest to shop HERE at my Online Store where you can scroll through all the available products!  If you change the drop down box in the upper right to “Show:  ALL” you can just scroll continuously and not have to keep going to the next page and the next.

If you are one of my regular customers, local or out-of-town, I will be getting the new catalogs out as soon as they are ready. If you do not have a Demonstrator and are interested in Stampin’ Up! products, email me at Karen@KarenStamps.com and let me know you’d like a catalog. If you have been a “No Contact” customer of mine and would like a catalog, please get in touch. This means that when you placed an order with me you checked the boxes that said you did not want contact from a demonstrator. If you are interested in ordering again and want a catalog, just let me know. Otherwise, of course, the catalog will be available online on June 2nd.

Last day for these Weekly Deals, too!  Check them out if you are ordering today!
