Father Christmas Monochromatic Christmas Card

Father Christmas Monochromatic Christmas Card

I was so excited to receive my Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog preorder and get to play with my new products today! This card, stamped with the Father Christmas Stamp Set, has the monochromatic look, which means you don’t have to do all the coloring! I also think it has the old-time Christmas look which I love. I actually got the idea for this card from another Demo in a group I’m in, although hers was larger and a square card. I wouldn’t have bought this stamp set had I not seen her card! A few other things are different on my card, too.

The card base is Real Red cardstock with a layer of the new Candy Cane Lane Designer Series Paper.  One of the coordinating colors is Crumb Cake, so I used a thin border of Crumb Cake for a layer under the stamped piece. I stamped on Whisper White because that is the coordinating color with the designer paper, but I think you could get away with using Very Vanilla cardstock if you wanted to. I intended to sponge a little Soft Suede on the card front but I forgot until I had the card all put together! I was going to try to carefully sponge anyway and then I listened to the advice I often give people which is the recipient of this card is not going to throw it down in disgust and say, “Why didn’t she sponge this Whisper White cardstock?!” It looks fine the way it is and no one who gets this card will know there was another choice!  The images are stamped in Soft Suede ink.

I did use my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to get the top and bottom borders placed correctly. I don’t often use this tool, but sometimes it totally comes in handy. Today I was NOT getting that border stamped straight so it was just easier to take time to use the tool rather than waste my effort!

For the side of the card I decided to use a strip of Real Red 3/8″ Stitched Ribbon and tied on a piece of the new Candy Cane Lane Baker’s Twine, coming in the Holiday Catalog. This is Whisper White twine with red metallic thread twisted in.  Very pretty!

On the inside of the card I stamped a piece of Whisper White with the holly bough stamp in the set in two of the corners with the same Soft Suede ink.

I will also try stamping a coloring a card with this same Father Christmas Stamp Set to see what that would look like!

If you do not have a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator you are working with, I would be happy to help you with Stampin’ Up! products! Contact me and I will send you the new Holiday Catalog when it comes out and the new Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog.

Swirly Scribbles Flowers and Watercolored Background

Swirly Scribbles Flowers and Watercolored Background

It was time to play with the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits Dies and make some Swirly Scribbles Flowers on a watercolored background. Once you cut out the flower pieces with the Big Shot, just glue them down with tiny dots of Multipurpose Liquid Glue or the Fine Tip Glue Pen. Then add any greeting you like for the occasion and any embellishments. I like to cut out extra scribbles to use another time.

It’s always best to use Watercolor Paper if you are going to do any watercoloring, but perhaps the next best thing is our Shimmery White CardstockYou can barely see the watercoloring on my card behind the flowers. It is very light and subtle.  I used Blushing Bride, Melon Mambo, and Soft Sky inks with my Aqua Painter to pick up the color. There’s no skill to it, honestly, it’s just picking up the ink with the Aqua Painter and smearing it on the cardstock in each area! Anyone can do it! The Shimmery White Cardstock is so beautiful with its very subtle shimmer and glimmer! You can perhaps see it in this photograph at the top of the card.

For some accents on the card, I turned to the new Brights Enamel Shapes . These are small and flat, great for mailing, and oh so pretty. They come in each Color Family, too, so you can have any color you need, plus Metallic. I also used the White Perfect AccentsThese can even be colored with Sharpies if you like.

For the little bit of stamping on the card, I used the leaves from the Swirly Bird Photopolymer Stamp Set and a small “Hello” greeting, making this a card for any friendly occasion, from the Crazy About You Photopolymer Stamp Set. Almost any greeting you could need is in this set and you can make your own combinations since the words are separate from each other.

The Swirly Bird Bundle has been very popular! If you don’t want to have FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) then order yours from Stampin’ Up! today!  If you have Bonus Coupons to use, remember to use them during August.

Affectionately Yours Pocket Card

Affectionately Yours Pocket Card

I could say this is a pocket card I made with the pretty Affectionately Yours Designer Series Paper, and it is, but what it started out to be was a Z-Fold Card! If you envision this card sideways, maybe you can see how it would have been a Z-Fold Card. This is one of those “there are no mistakes in stamping” cards!  I adhered my larger piece of designer paper onto the inside of the card when I meant to glue it to the front 3″ panel of the card!  That left no room for a message inside and just didn’t look right from the inside. So I turned the card on its side and could see a way to make it a pocket card!

The only thing about pocket cards is by the time you put adhesive on the sides of the card to form the pocket, the space to slide in your greeting card is made smaller.  You don’t want it to get stuck in the adhesive. I just used my Fast Fuse, but I could have made my strip of adhesive narrower if I had used the Tear & Tape. If you wanted the full space, you could just tie a ribbon around to hold the card together instead of using adhesive. I tied on a piece of the new Watermelon Wonder 5/8″ Mini Striped RibbonFor a greeting on the front, I stamped with the Crazy About You Stamp Set and made a little banner, accented with an Enamel Shape. These little things are so fun, kind of like the rhinestones and pearls but flatter, so better for mailing. Sometimes they add just that little something you need on your card.

Here is the inside of the card:

Affectionately Yours Pocket Card Inside

I used the Tin of Cards Stamp Set to stamp the inside card, layered on Cucumber Crush. I find this stamp set so useful because I like the greetings and the font and all the little extra borders and do-dad stamps in the set.

So don’t let your stamping mistakes get you down!  Chances are you can still make something out of what you messed up, maybe even better than what you originally planned…..and if not, it’s only paper!

“I Stamped This” Stamp Set

I Stamped This Stamp Set

Doesn’t everyone, after they open a card, turn it over on the back to see the marking that big card companies always print on the back along with the price?! But when you make a handmade card to give someone, what do they see when they turn the card over out of habit? Probably nothing. Here is your answer with the I Stamped This Stamp Set!  It is really fun if you have a stamp for the back of the card that you can personalize with your name or initials or date or whatever you want. You don’t have to put the price!!

If you are selling cards and other things you make with Stampin’ Up! stamps, you must stamp the Stampin’ Up! copyright on each item according to the Stampin’ Up! Angel Policy. (Click HERE to read the full Angel Policy.)  In this stamp set, you get two stamps that cover this copyright issue.  The rest of the stamps are for fun for you to make your card or project look professional and personal. Be proud of your work!

Of course some of the stamps can be used in many other ways so you can get lots of uses out of the I Stamped This Stamp Set.

To purchase this stamp set, just go to the Stampin’ Up! Store HERE!

Making a Z Fold Card

Z Fold Thank You Card

I’ve been seeing these “Z-Fold” cards all over and since it’s been awhile since I’ve made one, I thought I would give it a try again with this Z Fold Thank You Card using the beautiful Affectionately Yours Specialty Designer Series Paper. It’s just a simple card, really, but the extra little fold just adds a little something!  And we cardmakers are always looking for a way to add another little something!

Start with a regular card base, scored in the middle at 4 1/4″, then also score 1 1/4″ from one edge. Fold the card in half as always and then fold back the “z-fold”.  Add whatever designer paper you like on the front, on the folded over portion and/or on the edge of the inside of the card.  Or put it on all three places!  Whatever you like!  Just play until you see the combination of paper patterns that you like.  Or make two of them the same as I did on this card.

Add a greeting to the front.  I stamped a Thank You from the One Big Meaning Stamp Set in NIght of Navy ink, which coordinates with this paper.  (Look on the back label of the paper to see which colors coordinate with it.) Then I used the Layering Squares Framelits Dies to frame it. I used Night of Navy and a layer of Watermelon Wonder cardstock.  Just make sure you don’t glue down the greeting to the front of the card (like I did at first!) because you want that fold to be able to open and not be adhered down.

This is what the card looks like open so you can see how it should be folded.

Halloween Pumpkin RMHC Card

Halloween Pumpkin RMHC Card

I almost surprised myself one day, in the middle of this summer heat wave, to realize that Halloween would indeed be here some time not too far off so I thought I would get in the mood by stamping this card with the Stampin’ Up! Ronald McDonald House Charities stamp setMy Hero. Every year Stampin’ Up! makes one stamp set to benefit the RMHC which helps families dealing with their children’s illnesses.  When you purchase this stamp set, Stampin’ Up! will donate $3 to the charity!  You can stamp and know that you are helping someone at the same time!

This stamp set has stamps for many occasions you need during the year:  Get well, Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, and more! I’m really not sure what the little stubby stamp is for but I used it for the stem on my pumpkin! I stamped the pumpkin (or should I say Jack-o-lantern) randomly on the card, then colored in the face with the Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Write Marker.    The little stem is stamped with Old Olive.

The “Celebrate” banner comes in the set so that was perfect!  I stamped that in black and then colored in with my Pumpkin Pie marker.  For a little pizzazz I added two of the stars in the Metallic Enamel Shapes!  So cute! The banner is popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Such and fun and easy card and I know I’ve helped the Ronald McDonald House Charities a tiny bit by purchasing the My Hero Stamp Set.

RMHC My Hero Get Well Card

RMHC My Hero Get Well Card

Stampin’ Up! helps support the Ronald McDonald House Charities (R) by making a contribution for every special RMHC stamp set sold, and this My Hero Stamp Set is the stamp set for 2016-17. For every stamp set sold, Stampin’ Up! will donate $3 to the RMHC.  You can purchase this stamp set in wood- or clear-mount and know that your stamping is fun for you but also helping a good cause! The Ronald McDonald House Charities helps support families whose children are undergoing medical treatment away from home.  You can read more about it HERE.

To make this easy card, I used Real Red for a card base with the fold at the top.  Just cut the cardstock in half lengthwise at 4 1/4″ and then fold in half at 5 1/2″.  I have a layer of Whisper White and then Soft Sky for – the sky! I darkened the sky a bit with a little sponging of Smoky Slate ink. I actually used the coordinating punch for last years RMHC stamp set, the Tree Builder Punch, to punch out some clouds (on another card they might be cupcake tops!) and sponged those as well.

Next I actually used the My Hero Stamp Set.  I stamped the umbrella on Whisper White cardstock with Real Red ink and cut it out with my Paper Snips. The umbrella handle is stamped with Basic Gray and cut out. I adhered the clouds to the top of the card and next the umbrella, popping up the umbrella with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  The little greeting at the bottom is from the stamp set and punched out (just the ends) with the new Classic Label Punch. You could also put this greeting on the inside of the card.

For a little fun and pizzazz, I used my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush to make tiny raindrops!  I think you can see them on the photo if you look closely!  It’s always hard to photograph shiny and glimmery things.

I hope you will consider adding the My Hero Stamp Set to your next order and help Stampin’ Up! support a worthy charity that helps children and families, the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Watercolor Words You’re the Best Card

Watercolor Words You're the Best Card

I’m still copying cards, like this Watercolor Words You’re the Best Card from the new Stampin’ Up! Catalog or at least getting some inspiration! The catalog is a great resource when you are looking for any kind of idea. Even if you see an idea for a card, you might be able to use it on a scrapbook page.  If you see an idea for a tag, you might be able to use that on a card. You will find ideas for boxes and gift-wrapping and home decor items, and the samples in the catalog are there for you to take inspiration from!

This is another sample I have made from page 135 in the Stampin’ Up! Catalog. It didn’t turn out exactly like the catalog sample, but it doesn’t have to. Change it up according to what products and stamps you have. You could have used different flowers on this card, a different greeting or different paper.

For this card, I used Pool Party cardstock and a piece from the Affectionately Yours Specialty Designer Series Paper for the banner, which is die cut with the Big Shot and the Banners Framelits Dies. The greeting and flowers are stamped with the Watercolor Words Photopolymer Stamp Set and the flowers and leaves cut out by hand. The greeting is cut out with one of the circles in the Layering Circles Framelits Dies. For a little extra something, I adhered some sequins from the Metallics Sequin Assortment.  Who wouldn’t like to receive a card that says, “You’re the Best”!

Flip through the catalog next time you need an idea for a card or other project!  If you need a catalog, please send me your contact information and I can mail one to you.

The Perfect Card For Any Harry Potter Fan!

Harry Potter Card Celebrating New Book

Are you a Harry Potter fan? On July 31, 2016 the new Harry Potter book, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” by J.K. Rowling will be released. To commemorate that and to celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday I made this Harry Potter card.

Not that I came up with the design myself, but I found several samples online and came up with this card for Harry Potter fans.  The card base is made with Whisper White Thick Cardstock and the scarf is made with a strip of Crushed Curry with pieces of Cherry Cobbler adhered to it. The hair is just cut by hand (reminded me of cutting Frankenstein’s hair at Halloween!). The glasses are made with black punched circles with smaller white circles inside and then small circles from the Owl Punch for the eyeballs. Always put a little dab of white on the eyeballs with a white gel pen or the White Stampin’ Chalk Marker for that reflection of light.

The little “Celebrate” greeting is from the Thoughtful Banners Stamp SetThere is a coordinating punch, the Classic Label Punchbut I just cut out the banner by hand.

Easy card to make really and fun for the occasion of a new Harry Potter book and Harry Potter birthday!

If you are a Harry Potter Fan, I hope you enjoy the new book being released, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”
