Lovely As a Tree Christmas Card with Merry Little Christmas

Lovely As a Tree Christmas Card with Merry Little Christmas

Lovely As a Tree has to be the best, most universal stamp set ever created, and it makes a great Christmas card such as this Lovely As a Tree Christmas Card with Merry Little Christmas.  I have probably used the Lovely As a Tree Stamp Set every Christmas since I bought it, which has been at least 15 years. I have also used it many other times throughout the year because it is not just for Christmas.  It is not “just” for anything! It is so versatile!

One of the early cards I learned to make was to stamp this tree over and over again across the paper, sometimes without reinking, to give the look of a forest of trees.  The I squiggled glue over the trees and added Dazzling Diamonds Glitter. It always makes a beautiful card and is so easy.

For this card, I updated the Lovely As a Tree look a little bit by using the Merry Little Christmas paper.  The card base is Old Olive Cardstock, layered narrowly with Basic Black and then a layer of the green and black plaid paper.   I wasn’t sure at first how I was going to place the tree on this card because  a regular layer would cover up all the plaid that I wanted to show.  So I cut just a narrow strip and stamped that.  In the end, I cut the strip to basically fit the stamp, about 2″ x 4″ so there would be room for a greeting from Hearts Come Home. I decided to layer the tree on Gold Foil and then I added some strips on the sides of Gold Glimmer Paper.  All that took were some scraps! Then I added the greeting with some Stampin’ Dimensionals on the back to lift it over the tree piece (since I didn’t place it high enough on the card!).

Easy card to make if you need a last minute idea! And who doesn’t need last minute ideas at this point?!  I need a last minute elf, actually, to help!!

If you don’t already own Lovely As a Tree, it should be on your list for the New Year! It is a classic and I hope Stampin’ Up! will keep it around forever.

The upcoming Occasions and Sale-A-Bration catalogs have been mailed from Stampin’ Up!  You probably should have received yours by now if you are a regular customer of mine, or it should be coming soon, so watch for them in your mail.  They come separately.  If you are new and  would like copies, just email me and I’ll send them to you.

Star of Light Christmas Card

Star of Light Christmas Card

One of my downline sent me this Star of Light Christmas Card, and I want to tell you it is an absolutely beautiful card!  Just stunning in real life!  The photograph doesn’t really do it justice because of the glare from the gold foil. The Star of Light Stamp Set is a perfect one for the Christmas season, not only with beautiful artwork but lots of sentiments to use.

The card starts on just a Whisper White base, layered with a piece of Gold Foil. The top layer is Night of Navy embossed with the Sparkle Embossing Folder.  Underneath this Night of Navy layer are strips of Silver Glimmer Paper on each side, very narrow margins. It just looks beautiful along with the Gold Foil and Night of Navy cardstock!  The Star of Wonder is made with the Starlight Thinlits Dies using the Gold Foil and the Silver Glimmer Paper in all the layers.

The greeting is embossed in gold and layered on Gold Foil with a bit of the Gold 1/8″ Ribbon folded behind. There is also a small Rhinestone Jewel on the front.

For texture, shine, and eye-catching beauty, this card really can’t be beat! All the elements are there from the embossing folder, the Gold Foil and Silver Glimmer Paper and the beautiful die-cutting and layering of the star with the Starlight Thinlits Dies. Really pretty!

You will find this Star of Light Photopolymer Stamp Set and Starlight Thinlits Dies in the  Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog on page 122, so it can be ordered any time.  Perhaps you will want to get a head start on NEXT Christmas by making this card in January! This Star of Light Christmas card is one that will turn out beautifully!

Make a Quick and Easy Rudolph the Reindeer Gift Bag

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Gift Bag

If you are one of the lucky people who have finished your Christmas shopping, you are probably ready to wrap the gifts, so here is a way to make a quick and easy Rudolph the Reindeer gift bag.  You probably picked up one of these kraft (or other color) shopping bags when you were shopping, and they are great for decorating and personalizing for gift-giving.  Even if the store name is printed on the side, just cover it up with cardstock and decorate!  I do it all the time!

If you don’t have a kraft shopping bag in your bag stash, you can purchase them at the craft store. To make the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Gift Bag, I used the Tree Builder Punch for his antlers. If you don’t own this punch, just cut some antlers free-hand.  It wouldn’t be that hard! On this bag, I actually used two “trees” on each side (trimming them to fit together) to make the antlers longer and larger.  You could add even more if you have a larger bag. I adhered the “trees” entirely on the bag because they would be too fragile to be sticking out over the top.  The eyes are punched with the  3/4″ Circle Punch and the 1″ Circle Punch.  Of course you can use sizes that complement the size of your bag or project.   The great big red nose for Rudolph is made with the Red Glimmer Paper, punched with the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch.  Then just tie a ribbon around the bag handles if you like with whatever ribbon you have.

It is really quick and easy to make a gift bag like this and the recipient will love it! There are an infinite number of ways to decorate these shopping bags that you probably already have in your “bag of bags”!

Here’s an example of a bag that had the company name printed on it.  I just covered it with a piece of cardstock and added the decorations and embellishments.

Try making a few gift bags for your holiday gifts!  You will enjoy doing it and your recipients will love it! Just think of making a Quick and Easy Rudolph the Reindeer Gift Bag for a child!

Have A Friend Into Star Wars – The Last Jedi? Here’s A Card For Them!

Golden Canyon Star Wars MDS

Made in Stampin’ Up! My Digital Studio

Today the new Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi, comes out so maybe you have a friend into Star Wars and want to make them a Star Wars card! My husband, my boys and my son-in-law are all Star Wars fans, and I admit to seeing a few of the movies myself.  If you want to give a Star Wars fan a thrill, either now or maybe their birthday, here are some handmade Star Wars cards from the past. They were mostly ones I’d found on the internet, of course, and copied from people who were more creative than I was. I know my son-in-law has his cards on display, which makes me happy that he enjoys them! Mostly it just takes paper and punches to make all of these!

The picture above I made when Stampin’ Up! had My Digital Studio. Our family went to Death Valley a few years ago (Fantastic trip and scenery!  If you haven’t been there, you need to put it on your list!) and although we didn’t know it at the time I don’t think, there was at least one hike we were on that my guys commented looked like something out of Star Wars. When we got home and researched it, it turned out that some scenes were filmed in this area!  So I had a photo of my son on this hike and with My Digital Studio added a light saber!

But here are some other Star Wars cards I have made that you can keep on file!

Star Wars R2D2 Punch Art Birthday Card

This is a punch art R2D2 card, a little bit involved with all the small pieces! You can see it in my blog post HERE.

Star Wars Birthday Card Yoda and Darth Vader

This might have been my first Star Wars card I made with Darth Vader and Yoda! I know I found some kind of “Yoda Language Generator” site where you could type in your message and they would translate it into how Yoda would say it! Here is the blog post about this card.

Star Wars Inspiration BB8 Handmade Birthday Card

This card was fun with the BB8 character! You can read about the making of this card HERE.

Star Wars Day Yoda Card

I like this Yoda card, maybe because of the colors! You can read about this card on this blog post HERE.  I made this card for Star Wars Day, May 4th (as in…..May the 4th be with you!)

Are you going to see the new Star Wars movie? I don’t know if I will or not. It will be a Christmas holiday activity for the rest of the family home for the holidays.  If you have a friend into Star Wars, you might like to make a special Star Wars card for them to commemorate the new movie, The Last Jedi.

Christmas Card With Foil Frenzy Christmas Trees

Christmas Card with Foil Frenzy Christmas TreesIn keeping with my Christmas trees theme of yesterday, I got the idea to die cut Christmas trees with the Foil Frenzy Specialty Designer Series Paper to make a Christmas card. Using this colorful paper with foil colors and patterns makes for a more whimsical card! The foil patterns are printed on heavyweight kraft paper so besides cards, this paper is good for making boxes and other 3D projects for any occasion, not just Christmas! Check out the Foil Frenzy Paper!

One of the coordinating colors of the foil is Berry Burst, one of the In Colors, so I used that color for my card base.  The card layer is, again, Shimmery White. After I die cut the three Christmas trees with the tree in the Santa’s Sleigh Thinlits Dies, I decided to slide them all over to the right and add a bow to the side. The card is wrapped with the Berry Burst Ribbon, and I also added a piece of the 1/8″ Gold Ribbon for an added accent. The bow is a “cheater bow” – I adhered the strip of ribbon around the card layer but then tied the bow separately and adhered it to the ribbon with several Glue Dots. Makes it a little easier to just attach the bow rather than to tie it actually on the card!

The greeting is one from Oh What Fun and I simply stamped the whole thing with Berry Burst ink.  Another thing you can do with markers is to color right on the stamp, coloring different areas different colors.  After the coloring and before stamping, be sure to “huff” or breathe on the stamp to remoisten the ink, then stamp!  This will give a slightly lighter inked image than if you inked up with an ink pad directly, but it is a good technique to use sometimes.

Even when you start with an idea of what you are going to stamp, often another idea comes to mind while you are creating.  Just go with it and see what happens! If it doesn’t work, just keep working on it and you probably will find just the right combination of what looks good for your project!

Be sure to check out my card from yesterday in THIS POST to see the more typical way to use the Santa’s Sleigh tree die – or is there really a typical way to use any of our products?!  It’s all about the creativity!

Santa’s Sleigh Christmas Tree Christmas Card

Santa's Sleigh Christmas Tree Christmas Card

Can you tell the difference in these two Santa’s Sleigh Christmas Tree Christmas Cards?  I found this sample in a magazine we Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators receive from Stampin’ Up! quarterly, in an issue from last year, when the Santa’s Sleigh Stamp Set was new.  The sample was made pretty much like my card on the left. When I looked at it closely and looked at the list of supplies to make it, I was surprised that it wasn’t actually made like my card on the right!

The original sample, the card on the left, is actually made with some brown colors rather that metallics like my card on the right. In the sample, one tree is die cut with the Santa’s Sleigh Dies Thinlits out of Soft Suede Cardstock and the other tree out of Crumb Cake Cardstock. The center tree is stamped with Soft Suede Ink and die cut.  The card base and layer are made from the beautiful Shimmery White Cardstock. The center tree is made with this cardstock as well.  There are also some Soft Suede stamped stars and some die cut stars.

Since I originally thought the sample was made with metallics, I made another card with the Shimmery White cardstock.  The center tree is stamped with Versamark Ink and embossed with Gold Emboss Powder using the Heat Tool. The other two trees are die cut from the Gold Foil Sheets and the Copper Foil Sheet.

The center tree on both cards are popped up with both Stampin’ Dimensionals and the new Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals. In some cases, even the Mini Dimensionals are too large. If this is the case you can cut along the edges of the dimensional sheet as necessary.

To finish off the card, Linen Thread is wrapped around the card layer. On the metallic card, I tried some other ribbons, but mostly they were too large since the trees take up a lot of space. The greeting is stamped, in both cases, with Soft Suede Ink, although it could also be embossed in gold. In the original sample, the linen thread goes entirely over all the trees (not tucked under the center tree) and the greeting as well was adhered up by the trees and tucked under the linen thread. I chose to just put the greeting at the bottom of the card.

Both of these styles of Christmas cards are very pretty!  I would say using the embossing and foil steps it up a bit. I’m even going to try some other designer paper.  I think you could do many variations with this card!  Just get started and then see where your creativity takes you!  You can copy these samples of the Santa’s Sleigh Christmas Tree Christmas Card and see what you come up with!

Quick and Easy Decorated Christmas Lunch Bag

Quick and Easy Decorated Christmas Lunch Bag

Time is getting short and it’s time to wrap packages (if you shopped already!) so try this Quick and Easy Decorated Christmas Lunch Bag.  You don’t always have to have a fancy shopping bag, a lunch sack or small brown bag from a store will do!

Cut off the top that usually is a little raggedy and has that rough edge. Then start decorating.  Measure the width of the bag and cut your paper accordingly.  Or cut it larger and then trim off the sides if that is easier for you.

For this bag, I just chose a piece of designer paper.  This paper is in the Merry Little Christmas Designer Series Paper package. I just added a strip of Real Red Cardstock at the top and bottom of the designer paper (rather than use a whole piece of Real Red!).

The greeting is stamped in Real Red on Whisper White Cardstock from the Snowflake Sentiments Stamp Set.    You could use any holiday greeting.  I cut it out with one of the Stitched Shapes Framelit DiesThat greeting is layered on a die cut piece of Gold Foil from the Layering Ovals Framelits Dies.

For the top of the bag, I folded over the top and punched two holes for ribbon.  I chose a piece of the Real Red Tinsel from the Mini Tinsel Trim Combo Pack.

You could dress up this bag even more if you wanted to with more embellishments, but most of us don’t have too much free time for creating at this stage!  I hope you will think of things you already have at home that you can decorate or stamp and use for your holiday wrappings instead of rushing out to the store.  If it only takes a few minutes to make this Quick and Easy Decorated Christmas Lunch Bag, isn’t it faster than a trip to the store?!

Make Your Own Be Merry Christmas Gift Bag

Be Merry Christmas Gift Bag

I was reminded recently that we used to make our own gift bags, like this one that anyone can make with the Be Merry Designer Series Paper.  What a great way to use current designer paper or use up some of that paper you know you are hoarding! This gift bag just takes a few minutes to make, faster than making a trip to the store for a gift bag! And you can personalize it for whatever occasion or whoever you are giving it to!

You will need two full sheets of 12″ x 12″ designer paper…..or cardstock, if you prefer. Score each at 3″ on each of three sides and at 2″ on one side. Now, if your paper has a pattern, pay attention to which way everything is going. For example, since the one side of this paper has the trees all going in one direction, I had to think about the 2″ scored portion folding over at the top of the tree page, not at the bottom. The side that is scored at 2″ is the portion that will get folded over to show the pattern on the other side of the paper.  I wouldn’t want my trees to be upside down.

With both papers scored the same way, on one sheet, cut out the outside bottom squares. On the other paper, cut horizontally on the bottom score line just up to the vertical score line.

Scoring for Gift Bag

To make the bottom of the bag sturdier, cut a 3″ x 6″ piece of cardstock or light cardboard. This will go at the bottom of the bag in between the two bottom layers. Fold the bag on the score lines and see how it will fit together. Adhere the piece of cardstock actually to the front side of the bag at the bottom which will be folded underneath and will be sandwiched in between the two bottom pieces.  You will see when you assemble!

Use a strong glue to hold the bag together.  Fast Fuse is great or Tear & Tape, or at least Multipurpose Liquid Glue. If you use SNAIL Adhesive, put the adhesive on both pieces you are gluing together so that the strips of adhesive will intersect.  This will make it stronger.

Assemble the bag, paying attention to which side will be the front, so the folds are facing the front and not the raw edges. Punch four holes in the top for a ribbon handle if you like. Make a tag to tie on!

Once you make one of these Christmas gift bags, you almost won’t be able to stop making more! Pretty quick and easy to make your own Be Merry Christmas gift bag or use any paper you have!

Houston! We Have Snow!!!!

Houston Snow

IT SNOWED IN HOUSTON, TEXAS LAST NIGHT!

If you want to see a few million happy, excited people, come to Houston, Texas this morning!  And hurry before the snow melts!!  I looked out the window this morning at 7 am and saw THIS!!!  It hasn’t snowed like this in Houston in NINE years!!  I am telling you, this was gasp-worthy!!  Your mouth-hanging open worthy!!  This is AMAZING!!! Yes, I’m excited!!

Houston Snow

Houston Snow

Houston Snow

Houston Snow

Houston Snow on Pansies

Last night I stood outside in my pajamas and winter coat about 10:30 PM, taking pictures of teeny tiny snowflakes landing on my black jacket!  That was plenty exciting!!  But I never dreamed I would wake up to THIS much snow!!  I think they are saying about 1.0 – 1.5″ here but a couple hours away in College Station, TX they got 6 inches of snow!!!!  And San Antonio hasn’t had snow in over 30 years I think I heard!

Yes, by this afternoon it will be like spring, with temperatures in about 60! I wish the snow would stick around all day!Snow on a Palm Tree

And we do have palm trees with snow on them!!  This is at a neighbor’s house.

Most streets are fine, because of course just the other day it was over 80 degrees, but some of the big, way-up-high connector ramps to the highways must be icy because the one by our house had traffic backed up and sanding trucks that I saw when I took my husband to the bus. I can’t believe they didn’t cancel school but good thing they didn’t because almost all streets are just wet and by afternoon all this snow will be just a memory!  I never walked 10 miles to school in the snow when I was a kid, but, although we had snow days occasionally in St. Louis, sometimes we waited for the late school bus and went to school regardless.

Even if you have a great camera on your phone, be sure to keep a regular camera around for a day like this!  My cellphone would not work this morning, even after restarting, maybe it was too cold, but if I didn’t have my regular camera I wouldn’t have been able to take pictures of the historic snow in Houston! Yes, we have snow in Houston, at least for a little while this morning!!

Quick and Easy Christmas Candy Gift Treat Box

Quick and Easy Christmas Candy Gift Treat Box

If you need some extra little gift for someone or a stocking stuffer, how about this Quick and Easy Christmas Candy Gift Treat Box! This has been one of my favorite things to make ever since I saw the idea! What could be easier or more fun than wrapping chocolate candies in a 1″ x 3″ strip of designer series paper?!  Then put them in some kind of bag or container that you have decorated as cute as can be!  Remember, presentation is everything!

To showcase my covered chocolates, I put them in a Clear Tiny Treat Box.  I tried to fit them in there “decoratively” and finally decided on a bit of shredded paper at the bottom and 7 candies. To take up some space, I cut up scrap computer paper and wadded it up, pulled it apart, wadded it up, pulled it apart, until I finally felt like it was crushed up well enough.  I usually use the Crimper tool from long ago to crimp the strands of paper.  This way you don’t have to rush to the store to get some of this stuff!  Just make your own!

Since the candies were decoration in themselves, I just tied some Cherry Cobbler 1/4″ Double-Stitched Ribbon around and added a bit of Silver Tinsel.  Then I stamped the “Merry Christmas” greeting from the Teeny Tiny Wishes Stamp Set (one of my favorites!!) in Cherry Cobbler ink. I punched it out with the Classic Label Punch.  I had actually tried the Everyday Label Punch first, but decided just a very small greeting was fine. I snipped off the pointed ends of the punched greeting and just adhered it to the top of the Tiny Treat Box. Done!

Obviously, you could use this idea for any occasion or no occasion, just a gift! Use birthday paper, Valentine, Halloween, patriotic, whatever. Love these Tiny Treat Boxes!  They are great for quick and easy treats!

Don’t forget to check out the Year-End Sale at Stampin’ Up!  The retiring Holiday Catalog products are listed, although not on sale, so you can get them while supplies last.

Get out your designer series paper scraps or cardstock, buy some chocolates at the store (uh, craft supplies, of course!), and wrap to decorate! Time will be getting short and you know you will want some little gifts handy, so try this Quick and Easy Christmas Candy Gift Treat Box and make some extras!
