Magnificent Maple Fall Thinking of You Card

Magnificent Maple Fall Thinking of You Card

This leaf stamp on this Thinking of You card comes as a single stamp called Magnificent Maple in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog. I thought it was a beautiful leaf stamp, even though I have other leaf stamps.

I thought about calling this my Backache Card because I have done something terrible to my back, maybe putting it into perpetual spasm. I’m beginning to think that it is actually slowly getting better.  I couldn’t exist without ice packs right now! But Saturday night, after a miserable day, I was feeling mostly better, like magic! The first thing I wanted to do for my mental health was play with something from my new Holiday Catalog order.

This Magnificent Maple stamp seemed like the perfect stamp to make a simple card. Since the right colors of ink pads weren’t already on my kitchen table, rather than reach down to where the ink pad caddy is on the floor because of my back pain, I decided to just ink up the stamp with Stampin’ Write Markers. If you start with the lightest color and progress to the darkest you won’t mess up your markers. I believe I used Crushed Curry (or Daffodil Delight) for the yellow, Gumball Green, Pumpkin Pie, and a bit of Cherry Cobbler, just coloring in various areas of the stamp. When you use markers, you should “huff” or breathe on the stamp to remoisten the ink before stamping.  Obviously I stamped the center leaf full strength, inked up the stamp again but stamped off VERY lightly on scrap paper before stamping on my card for that lighter image. Maybe I stamped the lightest leaf on the left with what was left of the ink on the stamp.  It’s very light.

The card still needed something so I decided to sponge some color around the leaves. See those big sponged areas of Baked Brown Sugar? I wasn’t happy that I was sloppy and got the first big brown area when all I was trying to do was sponge a little soft subtle color around.  But since “there are no mistakes in stamping”, I decided to just add another big blob!  Make it look like I intended it to be that way! There’s almost always some way to fix a stamping boo-boo.

The greeting is from A Dozen Thoughts.  I put it at the top since I happened to stamp the leaves a little too low. And for a little extra interest I tied some Linen Thread around the panel and added a Natural Designer Button. I also stamped a few leaves in green on the Gumball Green card stock to add a little something around the edges.

So if you have back pain and it stops for awhile, go celebrate by stamping something!

Make Fun Holiday Banners

I think one of the many hits at the Stampin’ Up! Convention was seeing the making of the holiday banners offered in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog and variations using the kits. Shelli Gardner’s daughter Sara fascinated all of us with her holiday banners made from kits and the extra projects she also made. It was one of those products that I didn’t necessarily think I was interested in from the catalog until I saw her demonstrate them at Convention. They were in my first order home from Convention!

Build a Banner Simply Created Kit

You can purchase this Build a Banner Simply Created Kit  and receive the canvas banners with grommets, the stencils with the designs and lower-case alphabet, jute twine, stencil mask and spritzer. In the spritzer you mix 70% rubbing alcohol and reinker and spritz VERY lightly and from a distance with the stencil on the banner.  When I saw it demonstrated I thought that surely wasn’t enough color to show up, but it was! The moisture will pool on the stencil so you have to be careful lifting the stencil off. Some demonstrators have found using a spray adhesive on the back of the stencils help hold them in place better.

Using Sponge Dauber to ink up stencil

Here’s another technique you can use. Dip a Sponge Dauber into ink and apply to stencil. This method may work better than spritzing but might take a little longer. Sara only colored some of the dots so it wasn’t a big job to fill in all the dots.

I haven’t been able to play with my banner kits yet but hopefully soon!  You can purchase extra banners in the Banner Simply Created Kit depending on your project, or if you don’t want the stencils you could just buy these banners. Then if you would like to jazz up your banner without making everything yourself, purchase the Halloween Banner Simply Created Accessory Kit or the Christmas Banner Simply Created Accessory Kit.

Check out these banner kits in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog and see if you are up for a new kind of project made easy with these kits!

Texas Sales Tax Holiday Coming August 9-11

This post is for those of us in Texas!  You might think that the Texas sales tax holiday only applies to shopping at the mall for back-to-school clothes, shoes, and school supplies, but no!! It’s not THIS weekend but just to let you know it’s coming NEXT weekend, Friday August 9 through Sunday August 11.  The tax itself isn’t a big savings but it can add up!  Might as well take advantage of it!

The state of Texas is having a sales tax holiday for school supplies up to $100 per item from August 9-11. Because school supply items are included in this sales tax holiday, the list of items below will be state tax-free during the holiday period. Please note that you must place your order with Stampin’Up!® during the tax holiday period in order to receive these items tax-free. Also, keep in mind that this is a state sales tax holiday and may not apply to additional city, jurisdiction, or county taxes.

You can benefit by purchasing Stampin’ Up! supplies as well! If you have children or grandchildren or neighborhood children or just like to think of yourself as a student, you know that school projects can pop up at any moment. My family has often asked to use my craft supplies to make a project for school or Scouts or parties or anything.  We parents know that these needs frequently pop up at 10:00 pm the night before the project is due, so it is always a good idea to have these things on hand.  I always had a stash of notebooks, folders, graph paper, glue, notebook paper, and more on a designated shelf in my closet rather than having to dash to the store at the last minute.

Come back to my Online Store next weekend (Friday – Sunday) to add these items to your order and save the tax, IF you live in Texas.  Other states maybe also be having sales tax holidays for the start of school.  I just saw a story on the Today Show as I was writing this. Some states are having their tax holidays this weekend.

New Thinlits Card Dies from Stampin’ Up! Make Some Easy Flip Cards!

New Thinlits Card DiesOne of the exciting new Stampin’ Up! products introduced at the Stampin’ Up! Convention was the new Thinlits Card Die. These Thinlits Card Dies were one of the Prize Patrols at Convention but they had not yet arrived at Stampin’ Up! so the prize winners had to wait until the next day to pick them up!  That’s how NEW these card dies are!!
