Cheerful Critters Happy Day Card

Cheerful Critters Happy Day Card

The Cheerful Critters Stamp Set is a cute set in the new Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog! The critters are cute and there are choices of what to stamp on their signs – or I suppose you could write in your own saying! This critter I stamped with Memento Ink so I could color him in with the Blendabilities MarkersThere’s not a lot of room for blending shades and all that but I just like coloring with those markers!  Did you know there are new colors of Blendabilities in the Occasions Catalog as well as the chance to get a set free in the Sale-A-Bration Brochure?!

Since it was an ice cold day yesterday and today for so many people I wanted to make a happy card, so I added some little hearts from the You Plus Me Stamp Set, also in the Occasions Catalog. For a little something at the bottom I just chose a small strip of the new Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper and added a bit of Gold Baker’s Twine.  The card is 4″ x 4″ so it is a little different size but still fits in the standard Whisper White Envelopes.

The Cheerful Critters is a stamp set that you might initially overlook when looking at all the gorgeous things in the new catalog, but it’s cute and a little bit different and I think we’ll have lots of fun playing with!

Paper Pumpkin at a Discount – And Free Sale-A-Bration Product!

Paper Pumpkin Subscription SAB 2015

Here’s a new twist on Sale-A-Bration from Stampin’ Up! Stampin’ Up! has lowered the price on a 3-month prepaid subscription for Paper Pumpkin, the papercrafting kit that comes to you monthly in the mail in a cute red box. Stampin’ Up! lowered the price $5, and since the cost is $54.85, that 3-month subscription qualifies for a free Sale-A-Bration product!  You can order the 3-month Prepaid Subscription by itself and choose a free Sale-A-Bration product OR add the subscription to your regular order and choose SAB products for your entire order.

Paper Pumpkin has gotten better and better over time, especially during the past year — better projects, more materials, in my opinion. It’s really fun to open that box each month and be surprised by what is inside. In the December kit, there was an extra free gift enclosed, a paper piercing pack with three templates! One of those things that just adds a little extra to a project!

If you order by the 10th of any month, you will receive the kit that goes out around the 15th of the month. You can even pause your subscription if you want to skip a month.

You’ll find Paper Pumpkin in my Stampin’ Up! Online Store under “Kits”. There you can choose whatever length subscription you want.  You can even make it a gift for someone.  Who wouldn’t want a red Paper Pumpkin Kit showing up in their mailbox during these cold, dark days of winter?!

Do it for your sanity! Do it to perk up your post-holiday blahs! Do it for your own “craft therapy” to relax and reenergize!  Creativity is good for you!

Order your 3-Month Paper Pumpkin Subscription today and choose your free Sale-A-Bration item!

You Plus Me Card

The stamp set, You Plus Me, to make this card is now available in the new Stampin’ Up! 2015 Occasions Catalog, which is live today! Yes, you can view it and order from it until June 2, 2015.  If my card above looks a little like the one from yesterday, it is very similar!  The same designer paper I used on yesterday’s card from the Stacked with Love Designer Series Paper Stack is just turned over to the other side, the black and white chevron pattern. To jazz it up a little I added some Silver Glimmer Paper to each side. The background on the Whisper White layer is stamped in Real Red Ink with a stamp in the set. I thought that was very cute! The hearts are die cut with the Hearts Collection Framelits Dies even the little ones.

You Plus Me Heart Card

You Plus Me Heart Card

This is a sneak peek of the new stamp set You Plus Me, available tomorrow in the new Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog, plus the new Stacked with Love Designer Series Paper Stack. You can actually purchase the stamp set and paper stack in a Bundle and save 15%! It all starts tomorrow, January 6, 2015! And Sale-A-Bration also begins, so with every $50 purchase, you get to choose a free Sale-A-Bration item. Catalogs will be available online tomorrow! If you need hard copies, please just ask. I have some extras at the moment. On this card I also used the Big Shot and the Hearts Collection Framelits Die.

That’s why I am off to a slow start stamping today!  I haven’t taken down my Christmas tree or put away all the Christmas decorations yet. In order to put up the tree we have to move a desk that is normally by my kitchen table and heaped with my current stamping stuff! So that’s in the other room and so are a lot of my stamping products. Since we actually ate Christmas dinner at the formal dining room table, I had to move my Big Shot and mess off of that. I did find my Big Shot under a chair today and the container with my dies and framelits and embossing folders underneath something else! So now, at least, I am back in business with my Big Shot and accessories!

If you wonder why I used a black heart, it’s because I was influenced by the opposite side of the heart paper, which is a black and white chevron design. Maybe I will make a similar card with the other side of the paper! I had also intended to use some of the coordinating Stacked with Love Designer Washi Tape but I forgot! Next time!

It’s so fun to have new stamping products to play with, especially after everything being about Christmas and the holidays! If you place your spring time order tomorrow, in just a few days YOU will have your new products as well!

But before you think about tomorrow, go through the Holiday Catalog another time and also check the Year-End Closeouts in the Stampin’ Up! Store and see if there is anything you want as these will end tomorrow. Go to my Stampin’ Up! Online Store now and check through the categories on the left sidebar to make sure you don’t miss a thing! Remember, even if you looked at the Closeouts early on, they added more items at some point and reduced some prices even more! Really, you should check it, just in case!

Don’t Get Confused! New Catalogs Coming!

Occasions Catalog with SAB Cover

Don’t get confused! New Stampin’ Up! catalogs are coming on Tuesday, January 6, 2015! You may think you have received or are viewing two Sale-A-Bration Catalogs, but THIS one pictured above is the new Occasions Catalog with all the new spring goodies in it!  Wow!  Wait until you see them! The cover on the front is just sort of a flyer advertising Stampin’ Up! Sale-A-Bration, the year’s greatest promotion for Stampin’ Up! But flip that cover page over and you see the beautiful cover of the Stampin’ Up! 2015 Occasions Catalog!

Occasions Catalog Cover Open

And here is the smaller Sale-A-Bration 2015 Catalog, filled with FREE PRODUCTS you can earn with every $50.00 purchase plus suggestions for extra products you might like to purchase.

Sale-A-Bration Catalog Cover

If you usually get catalogs mailed to you from me, then you should have received your copies of both the Occasions and the Sale-A-Bration Catalogs already. If you did not, let me know and I’ll check on it.  I order and pay for Stampin’ Up! to send these catalogs out to my best customers, but sometimes they don’t reach their destination unfortunately. I also have some extra catalogs on hand if you do not have a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator and would like a copy in your hands rather than online. Just email me at Karen@KarenStamps.com with your contact information and I’d be happy to put them in the mail to you. Let me know if you also need the Annual Stampin’ Up! (main) catalog.

Many Merry Stars Simply Created Kit Boxes

Many Merry Stars Simply Created Kit BoxesYes, I know star boxes from the Many Merry Stars Simply Created Kit were supposed to be made before Christmas, but much as I wanted to, it just didn’t happen!  I frequently do Christmas things AFTER Christmas – like bake cookies, make decorations! I could have saved the whole kit for next year, but for one thing, I’m in the mood now to make these, I’ve been looking forward to making them since I first heard of them, and by next Christmas there will be something new and shiny I am interested in!  So better to just make them now and have them ready next Christmas! What a joy that will be!

There are tons of supplies in the kit and the star boxes really were quite easy to make. They suggest starting with a medium size star box to get the hang of it on an easier size. I also followed someone else’s directions to make two of the boxes into boxes with a lid and bottom so that next year perhaps I can use them to put something inside.  Otherwise you are just adhering the back on to the bottom of the sides of the box and the whole thing is closed up.  Still cute and you can string a ribbon through at the top in the beginning of assembly to make an ornament. I haven’t tried all the variations yet!

Really, you could made some of these stars for just any occasion or for a birthday, not everything is Christmas-themed in the kit!

Just want to let you know it is okay to make Christmas things AFTER Christmas, in case you want to!

And at this moment you can still purchase the Many Merry Stars Simply Created Kit on the Year-End Closeouts Clearance Rack HERE. Only available while supplies last.

Hope you had a happy New Year’s Day yesterday! It seems like the holiday goes on and on with this weekend after! Time for a little more holiday stamping and then on to spring and the new Occasions Catalog and the start of Sale-A-Bration on January 6th! If you do not have a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator and would like the new catalogs, I have some extras I can mail to you.  They will also be available online January 6th when the catalogs and promotion go live! If you are a customer who regularly receives catalogs from me, I think you should have received them already, so hunt through that Christmas mail you might have put aside and find them!

New Year’s Eve Party Hats Card

New Year's Eve Party Hats Card

It’s New Year’s Eve, December 31!  Can you believe it??  What happened to Christmas?  For that matter, what happened to April or October?!  Time flies when you are having fun I guess!  Are you celebrating tonight?  Having a party at your house or going out?  My mother always wished she could be at Times Square on New Years Eve, so I always think of her when I see that crowd. I wish I could be there too, just without the hassle! I’m sure it is the experience of a lifetime! But instead we will be taking kids to the airport earlier in the evening (sad!) and then watching whatever New Year’s Eve shows are on TV and having a little toast and snacks at midnight.

One of my fondest New Year’s Eve memories was when I was about 16 and my mother started calling up people and inviting them over to her parents’ house. It turned out no one had plans and everyone came over for a very impromptu party! My grandma always had plenty of food in the house, I suppose we took some things over, and we always loved being at her house! There were kids and my parents’ friends and probably my grandparents neighbors. Just spur of the moment and a really good time. I think we always assume “everybody else” is out having a fantastic time at a big party but it probably isn’t always true.

So for my New Year’s Eve card, I thought of two party top hats made with Basic Black squares and a strip for the hat brim on top of a layer of Whisper White criss-crossed with Watercolor Wonder Designer Washi Tape.  I used strips of Gold Sequin Trim on the hat bands because what says New Year’s Eve more than sequins! The greeting is from Good Greetings (no longer available). Of course I added as much bling as possible with the Frosted Sequins (and a few snowflake sequins just in case it is cold and snowy where you are!) and the In Color Sequin Assortment.

I hope you will have a fun New Year’s Eve whether you are out and about or enjoying a quiet evening at home!  If you are staying in, maybe tonight will be a good time to scrap some of those holiday photos, especially with Project Life! Or at least get things prepared to start when Sale-A-Bration arrives January 6th!

Finishing a Houston Marathon Squash Book Photo Album

Houston Marathon Squash Book Cover

Back in January 2004 (uh, yes, that would be almost 11 years ago! ) my son Eric ran in the Houston Marathon. I immediately made this “squash book” photo album as it was called, very popular back in my earlier days of Stampin’ Up! I made the album, put the photos in it, and I see now never did any journaling in it!  There’s not one date in it! Very bad! I also never got a cover made. But for 11 years, “any minute now” I was going to finish that album by making a cover (and presumably doing some journaling inside!). So it laid around here all these years, probably got dusted a few times, and finally landed who knows where. But this Christmas it resurfaced and by golly, I was going to decorate the cover! I didn’t know exactly what I would use, but immediately I spied a new Sale-A-Bration stamp set, coming January 6, called, appropriately, Best Day Ever. I thought that saying was so right for this project and stamped that on the top layer. As I’ve always said, stars are great for so many occasions, so I used the Many Merry Stars Stamp Setwhich is still available in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Supplement on page 8 and is discounted on the Year-End Closeouts Clearance Rack (while supplies last!).  (If you missed out on the Many Merry Stars Simply Created Kit that was so popular, at this moment it is available too at a discount!  You can still make the kit and save the stars for next Christmas – or use them for another occasion with different greetings.)  I also used Glimmer Paper and the Star Framelits Dies to decorate the cover of the squash book.

I don’t have any directions at my fingertips for making the squash book, but I did use 12 x 12 card stock. You can make it as long as you want.  I put photos on both sides. The trick is getting it to fold correctly, but once you do that, you’ve got it made.  I’m sure you can google “Squash book” and find some details if you need them. Here are some photos of the inside so you can get an idea of how it is assembled and folded. I see I should add some dates and journaling before I let him take it home!

Usually I finish all my stamping projects I start, which I consider one of the advantages of the rubber stamping craft, but this project just didn’t quite make it!  I’m glad I finally was able to finish this Houston Marathon Squash Book Photo Album for a Christmas gift, even if it was about eleven years overdue! Try your hand at making a small album for a special occasion!

Don’t forget, the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog is coming to an end January 5th! Even though we are excited about the new Occasions Catalog and Sale-A-Bration event  coming up, don’t miss out on anything you wanted from the Holiday Catalog or Holiday Supplement before they end! Lots of items are on the Year-End Closeouts as well, so you might get a bargain!

OK. Now It’s YOUR Turn!

Stampin' Up! Year-End Closeouts

Ok. It’s your turn!  You’ve shopped, sent cards, wrapped packages, cleaned the house, cooked the meals, entertained the relatives, and didn’t get exactly what you wanted for Christmas. This is when you say, “I’m going to take care of myself!” and go pick out a few Stampin’ Up! items you want just for kicks. And if you like bargains, you can check out the Year-End Closeouts on the Clearance Rack or the Weekly Deals. Go ahead.  You deserve it. Just to tide you over until it’s time to order for Sale-A-Bration!

Bright & Beautiful Christmas Card for Christmas Eve

Bright & Beautiful Christmas Card

Isn’t this Christmas card perfect for Christmas Eve with the Bright & Beautiful Stamp Set stars and the beautiful Glimmer Paper to add sparkle?! The coordinating Stars Framelits Dies are great to use rather than cutting out the star shapes yourself. She also has washi tape going across the card diagonally.

This card was made by my friend from years and years ago when I was dating my husband and when we were first married and lived in Oklahoma. We haven’t seen each other in over thirty years, yet we have always kept in touch with Christmas cards every year. A few years ago she mentioned she was interested in stamping so we re-connected with Stampin’ Up! on a “stamping level”. Even though we had kept in touch all those years, it’s been even more fun to do so with our common interest in stamping and cardmaking through phone calls, emails, and cards! Never underestimate the power of stamping which goes beyond paper, ink and stamps!

If you want to do some shopping for YOURSELF today or in the days after Christmas, remember that Stampin’ Up! added more items, even from the Holiday Catalog, to the Year-End Closeout Clearance Rack.

Do you open Christmas presents tonight or on Christmas Day? Growing up my family and grandparents always opened presents on Christmas Eve – basically the presents that were at our house we opened Christmas Eve. Christmas morning Santa had come and left presents, unwrapped, and a stocking (too bad my parents were so “poor” that they could only give us one little package to open on Christmas Eve!  Ha! Ha!). In the afternoon we would go to my grandparents’ house and open the presents at their house (from them). So we spread it out and I still like it best that way but nowadays we just open presents on Christmas Day, with a pretty late start!

I hope all of your family members who are traveling today have a safe journey as you look forward to their visit, or that you have a safe trip as you travel.

However you are celebrating Christmas, I hope you have a very merry one!!  And I hope that Santa is very good to you!

Top Note Package Chalkboard Tag

Top Note Package Tag

I got this idea from one of the many store ads I have gotten in the mail recently, and I thought it was so cute! The chalkboard style is still “in”, which I love, so I made a package tag with the Top Note Die to look like a chalkboard! Hasn’t the Top Note Die been just about the most versatile die to ever use?! I wrapped the package in the Stampin’ Up! Festive Designer Kraft Paper Roll (on the Clearance Rack!) and tied the Cherry Cobbler 1″ Sheer Linen Ribbon around. Then I die cut the Top Note tag and wrote on it with my White Stampin’ Chalk MarkerEasy, fun, and works for anybody.  If you don’t own the Top Note Die, just use a piece of Basic Black Card Stock that’s not die cut! The kraft wrapping paper you can use any time.

This morning Stampin’ Up! added new items to the Year-End Closeout Clearance Rack so be sure to check those out!

Lovely As a Tree Classic Christmas Card

Lovely As a Tree Classic Christmas Card

Here is a Stampin’ Up! Christmas card we received from my husband’s cousin! She used the stamp set Lovely As a Tree, a classic stamp set that I can’t imagine ever doing without! Notice how she stamped the center tree fully inked and then stamped each tree on the sides without reinking. For some pretty sparkle, she added a little glitter and a Silver Glimmer Star. She also added a little strip of Nordic Noel Designer Series Paper.

The Lovely As a Tree Stamp Set can be used for Christmas, for masculine cards, for many occasions. It’s just one of those stamp sets that your collection should not be without! It is timeless!

If you are interested in any of the Weekly Deals, remember tonight will be the deadline for ordering. New ones tomorrow! Don’t forget the Year-End Closeouts in the Clearance Rack. You can order the Christmas products on there and save them for next year!
