Making Swaps for the Stampin’ Up! Convention

Swap card for the Stampin' Up! Convention

Now that the Stampin’ Up! Convention is less than two weeks away, it’s probably time to get serious about making swaps! Swaps are card fronts that we Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators make to trade with each other. Not only does this give us a collection of ideas to show our customers, it also gives us a way to interact with each other! It usually even starts at the airport if others can identify you as a Stampin’ Up! Demo and we start asking each other if we want to swap.  Of course everyone does, unless they are going to be finishing their swaps on the airplane ride to Salt Lake City! Swapping is one of the biggest things at any Stampin’ Up! event. It is AMAZING (to quote a phrase from the Bachelor/Bachelorette shows!) to look around at Convention in the lobby, inside the main stage area, even outside the building to see all these people swapping! You really have to see it for yourself! Even at lunch or during a break, people will have their swaps all laid out on the table and as other demos walk by they can see what swaps they have and trade if they want. I swear, Wall Street has nothing on these ladies and gents!  Everywhere there is a line people are swapping while they wait! It’s a great way to break the ice and start talking to those strangers around you!

If you would like to be part of all the Stampin’ Up! fun, find out about becoming a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator. You’ll essentially be starting your own business for just the cost of the Stampin’ Up! Starter Kit. From there you can make a little extra money for yourself or your family or a lot of extra money, depending on what your goals are.

Contact me if I can answer any questions for you and provide you with more information!

A Guest Visitor at the Stampin’ Up! Convention!

You heard a lot from me about the Stampin' Up! 2012 Convention this summer in Salt Lake City even though I did not attend this year. As a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, I find going to the convention one of the most fun things I can do! For me, the biggest, biggest, biggest thing is all the creativity on display! So many displays and live demonstrations that you just think as soon as you get home you will make everything you saw at Convention! But there is also an overwhelming feeling of being with some of the nicest people you could ever meet, whether the Stampin' Up! employees or other demonstrators. I think we are all so happy to be there in the first place plus we just are a friendly bunch!

But what would the Stampin' Up! Convention look like to an "outsider"? This year Stampin' Up! invited a freelance writer, Connie Myers, and she shared her experience in an article on Scrapbook Update:

Demonstrators attended general sessions and classes throughout the three-day convention. General sessions included technique and product demonstrations, prizes, company announcements, achievement awards and on-stage recognition. Classes included several make- and-take sessions using new colors and products. New products were also displayed on Product Showcase boards. Dozens of display boards showcased class projects, general session techniques, and creative cards, scrapbook pages, and projects created by demonstrators. Demonstrators took photos to use as examples when planning their parties, workshops, and classes at home.

I know you will want to read her whole article and see the photos! I think she gave a complete report of what she observed at the Stampin' Up! Convention, plus, as I mentioned, experienced for herself the fun and friendliness available to everyone. You'll also learn a little history about Stampin' Up!

You can read the entire article here.

It might be unusual to encourage someone to read the Comments after the article, but I think in this case reading the comments will just add to your knowledge and excitement about the Stampin' Up! company and attending the Stampin' Up! Convention!

And if you would like to attend the Stampin' Up! Convention next summer for the 25th anniversary of Stampin' Up!, please get some information about joining the fun HERE.

Stampin’ Up! 2012 Convention Highlight Video!

Not much chance that all the  Stampin' Up! 2012 Convention energy is over yet even if the convention is over! Stampin' Up! produced this Convention Highlights video.  The theme of Convention was "I Am…". As Shelli Gardner explained on her blog, she thought this was a theme everyone could find meaning in, both personally and professionally. That will help explain the beginning of the highlights video and the Convention theme song (which everyone seemed to love!).

You'll see the shopping at Memento Mall, the presenters on stage, the Prize Patrol, the free stamps, the swapping, the Awards Night, the dancing, the laughing, the fun of it all!

Take a few minutes to find out about starting your own stamping and scrapbooking business and see if you would like to become a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator and join the fun!

Extreme Makeover Stampin’ Up! Style

Last summer Stampin' Up! Convention attendees were encouraged to enter a contest to have their stamping space made over by Shelli Gardner! The lucky winner was Tamzin Cochrane in Austin, TX! Here is a speeded up video Stampin' Up! showed at Leadership last week of the process! Amazingly, the Gardner family came and did the work themselves! Wouldn't we all love to have them show up at our door?! Maybe you will see some ideas you can use!

Want to Be a Domestic Goddess??

Stampin' Up! has collections of stamping products that coordinate called "Suites".  One is called the Domestic Goddess Suite!  One of the sheets of designer paper actually looks just like an old tablecloth I have….and many of you probably have, too.

Since I have been busy this weekend working on some kitchen remodeling, I thought it appropriate to post some of the photos from the Domestic Goddess display at Convention!  There are two stamp sets, Now You're Cookin' and House & Home, both available in either wood- or clear-mount.  Also in this Suite, are the new Mini Clothespins!  Don't forget to put those on your next order!

You can get some of these products as digital downloads for My Digital Studio, too!

Stampin’ Up! Convention Swap

Swap Pennant Christmas Trees

Here is the only general swapping card I got made this year for the Stampin' Up! Convention.  Usually I make LOTS but I only got about 40 made of this one.  However, I was also part of an organized swap and I'll show you that swap card next.  The Christmas trees are punched with the new Petite Pennants Builder Punch, cardstock and the Just Add Cake Designer Series Paper.  The little greeting and star is stamped with the Pennant Parade Stamp Set.  For the tree trunk, I just used a Stampin' Write Marker but you could also stamp the little pot in the stamp set.  This was faster!  This isn't the best lighting on this card as I took the photo in my hotel room!  But it is a fun and easy card to make!

If you want to order the Petite Pennants Punch or the Pennant Parade Stamp set in wood or clear-mount, then just visit my Stampin' Up! Online Store HERE.  Pennants are the trend right now!  Don't miss out!  They're fun!

My Digital Studio Hybrid Calendar from Convention

Stampin' Up! offered three +Fun classes on Friday evening during Convention for an extra charge, and I chose to take the "Creating Fabulous Hybrids with My Digital Studio" with Holly Linford.  Hybrid means using digital as well as traditional papercrafting. We were given this calendar (July to July) already made in My Digital Studio and a bag of goodies to use to embellish it.  Then Holly went page by page through the calendar suggesting how we could embellish some of the pages. Afterwards she went through and gave us tips on using My Digital Studio to design these pages.  So we ended up with a lovely calendar, some extra Stampin' Up! products, new downloads, more MDS training….and even cookies and treats!  Here are some photos:

My Digital Studio Calendar Convention

We added the bow on the spiral and the little flower on the front.

My Digital Studio Hybrid Calendar

The white thread is the white Baker's Twine #124262.

Adding die-cut butterflies to MDS Calendar

You can barely see them, but we added butterflies to some of the centers of the printed butterflies from the Beautiful Wings Embosslit Die #118138.  Holly taught us how to design the digital image so that the paper image will fit correctly.

Adding Flower to MDS Calendar

This stamp set, Day of Gratitude, is absolutely gorgeous in "real life" and you can see from this page it is equally beautiful in the digital version!  Love these colors together!  We just added a little flower and pearl to this page.

How to Color Digital Outline Images

We just added some Rhinestone Jewels #119246 to these Merry & Type ornaments .  This is a new stamp set in the new IB&C on page 31 and also a digital download #123139.  Holly taught us how to add color to these ornaments being as they are outlined shapes.  Just add colored punches behind them!

My Digital Studio Monochrome Look with Drop Shadows

For January we added some bling with the Rhinestones and learned how to do a monochrome look digitally by using drop shadows.

Hybrid Page in My Digital Studio Calendar

This is one of the cutest pages, I think….we just added some paper flowers from the new punches to the printed digital flowers.

If you haven't tried My Digital Studio yet, you really should learn more about it!  The more you use it, the more you love it!  It's not hard to learn….I'd NEVER done any digital scrapbooking before….but you just get in there and play around….and it is for way more than digital scrapbooking, as you can see!  To learn more about My Digital Studio, click HERE or contact me!

Stampin’ Up! Convention Memento Mall Photos…Shop! Shop! Shop!

There is so much to show and tell about the Stampin' Up! Convention that I don't even know what to post!  I'm having trouble finding where my photos downloaded on my desktop computer so I am using my laptop instead.  I think I will show you some photos from Memento Mall, the first afternoon, my first stop!  The displays were so cute! (Of course I will be saying that everyday about every display!!) Memento Mall is a place to shop for "souvenirs" and things to use in our business. It is always a popular place for demos!

Stampin’ Up! Convention Highlights

Even though the Stampin' Up! Convention ended on Saturday afternoon, it was still a fun trip home yesterday (except for my suitcase being 6 lbs over the weight limit and having to put my new SU catalog binder, a stamp set and shoes in my carryon and still check a second bag…my laptop bag (from last year's convention!)…to get the weight down….and except for having to rush through the Denver airport even in the same concourse across a couple of "people-movers" to get to my next gate with only a thirty minute layover…while carrying the heavy carryon bag and purse!…and no time for lunch) …because I still was meeting Stampin' Up! Demonstrators at the airport in Salt Lake and on the plane and looking at swaps the demo had sitting next to me.  Part of the fun of Convention is that Stampin' Up! Demonstrators are everywhere so it is easy to start chatting right away.  In fact, at the gate in Salt Lake City, a lady sat down next to me and I didn't see any signs of SU on her so assumed she was NOT a demo.  Then another demo came along and sat down and started talking about going through security with both of us, so I assumed she knew this lady next to me…but no, she could see MY SU paraphenalia and assumed this lady was with ME!  Finally, I realized this lady next to me was NOT with Stampin' Up! and didn't know what we were talking about!  We told her she should be one of us!  Guess we should have tried harder to recruit her!

Slowly reality settled in that the wonderful Stampin' Up! Convention and all its fun and all its perks had come to a close and I was returning to normal life again.  But, Stampin' Up! already had a highlight video which captures lots of the moments and experiences of Convention, almost up to the last minute (no video of Spencer Willis singing "The Candy Man" with his children right after Carrie Cudney's candy-themed demonstration!).  Just to hear the music brings it all back!

If you would like to be a part of all this excitement and fun, please consider joining us at Stampin' Up! as a Demonstrator!  During July only, you can purchase this $99 Starter Kit and be a demo in minutes, plus get a free project to make (it is gorgous!!).  Just click HERE to see what you get for $99.  It will be the start of a new business and the start of new friendships and fun!

Turning Back Into a Pumpkin!

The Stampin' Up! Convention is over so just a few more hours to bask in all of the excitement as I try to pack everything in my suitcase and carryon.  Of course I have my "valuables"…better than jewels…my Make & Takes (that I didn't make), my swaps, my new stamp sets, my purchases from Memento Mall, my free stamp set for attending five classes (why wouldn't you??), my pack of Holiday Minis (oh wait till you see it!!!), my new catalog in a Stampin' Up! binder with dividers for categories, my new bag…and maybe even a leftover cookie from the class last night!

I don't know where to start but I'll post a few photos that I just downloaded that I took today of the displays. ENJOY!!
