Pressed Petals Journal With Poppies

Pressed Petals Journal With Poppies

If you want a gift for someone, you might consider ordering a Pressed Petals Journal and then personalizing it by decorating the front cover, like this Pressed Petals Journal With Poppies.

If this journal looks familiar, it might be because you saw something almost like it in the Occasions Mini Catalog on page 27. I intentionally copied it as closely as I could because I really liked the look of it with the poppies. I even called Stampin’ Up! to see if I could find out what colors were used on the sample, but the lady helping me wasn’t sure and the supply list for the catalog samples listed the wrong thing. As soon as I got off the phone, I figured it out for myself.

I made the poppies with the Poppy Moments Dies. They cut out one solid background flower, then the detailed outline overlay to make it look like a poppy, and then the black flower center. The mystery color I had a difficult time trying to identify was Grapefruit Grove for the overlay, one of the In Colors! The flower color underneath is Calypso Coral (if I remember correctly). Of course, you can use any color combinations you like. The smaller flower is Grapefruit Grove for the base and a bright color for the overlay (maybe Poppy Parade). I’ve already sent this as a gift! All the leaf die-cuts used about three different shades of green.

For the sentiment, I needed something rather small. I decided on the words in the Honey Bee Stamp Set. The phrase is stamped on Whisper White and die cut with one of the Ornate Frames Dies. You’ll still find these dies under Holiday Favorites.

The catalog sample of this journal uses a different ribbon on the coils, but I used the Very Vanilla 3/8″ Scalloped Lace Trim. I used two or three strands of ribbon, held them together, and tied them on to the journal binding. I tied them on like you put ribbon through a hole on a tag, whatever that is called! And of course, for a little bling, I had to add a few Peaceful Poppies Sequins.

One extra-nice thing about these Pressed Petals Journals is that the pages are decorated inside and have some prompts if you would like to use them for writing. This post shows the first journal I decorated and gave to my daughter. I used an idea for a card that I saw in the Annual Catalog to decorate the cover. You can make it as simple or fancy as you like.

Add a couple Pressed Petals Journals to your order and keep them on hand for when you need a little gift for someone.

Pressed Petals Journal With Floral Banner

Pressed Petals Journal With Floral Banner

This Pressed Petals Journal With Floral Banner is just one that I have made for Christmas gifts. The Pressed Petals Journal is almost nice enough with its “debossed” cover without any other embellishment on it, but I think if you are giving it as a gift, or even just using it for yourself, it’s nice to decorate it a little bit.

This one is very simple. I just cut a piece of the Pressed Petals Specialty Designer Series Paper and flagged the end to look like a banner. Then I layered this on a piece of Daffodil Delight Cardstock.

I think if you are going to put a sentiment on the front of a journal, it should be something meaningful to the recipient or just something appropriate for the cover of a journal in which the person “might” be writing their personal thoughts or diary. I used the Petal Labels Dies for the layer behind the sentiment. The words are from the Varied Vases Stamp Set. I stamped a little greenery on the die-cut sentiment piece with some leaves in the Path of Petals Stamp Set. I might add it is best to do this before layering!! I just put down a piece of scrap paper over the layer so no ink would get on that piece. Then I added a bow tied with a double piece of green twine in the Magnolia Lane Combo Pack.

Here is a link to the first decorated Pressed Petals Journal I made. You can see in the post that the pages have several different designs and journaling prompts if you want to use them, or of course, you can just use it as any old notebook for keeping track of whatever you like!

I hope you will check out these Pressed Petals Journals in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog on page 170 in the Memories & More section. Order several and you can decorate and give to your friends for gifts!

Pressed Petals Journal For the New Year 2020

Pressed Petals Journal For the New Year 2020

I made this Pressed Petals Journal for a gift for someone, but haven’t mailed it yet! However, it made me think, with the 2020 New Year approaching, if you were looking for just a little journal to begin the New Year, this could be perfect for you!

The Pressed Petals Journal is pretty nice just the way it comes from Stampin’ Up!. The cover is already embossed (or “debossed”) with kind of a floral design and comes spiral bound. The pages inside have some designs already printed and prompts (just several used over and over again). But then you can decorate it however you like! I tried to leave at least some of the cover showing a bit since I like that design.

I changed my mind a few times but ultimately settled on just using the Pressed Petals Specialty Designer Series Paper because it would match the inside of the journal. I just chose one of the printed panels in the paper selection that would be small, especially after I cut it down close to the flowers. I layered it on the coordinating color of Rococo Rose Cardstock. I thought it needed a little brightening up so I added a layer of Whisper White.

The greeting is from the wonderful stamp set Beautiful You. I have always loved this saying and thought it would be a good thought to go on a journal for 2020! It is stamped in Rococo Rose Ink and die cut with a die from the Ornate Frames Dies, then layered the greeting on the frilly Ornate Frame die in Rococo Rose Cardstock. (I told you those dies weren’t just for Halloween!) And I also added a couple of little pearls that may be retired. Inside I even added a few embellishments, like a punched daisy, sequins, and other Flower Faceted Gems.

You’ll find this Pressed Petals Journal in the Memories & More section of the catalog or Online Store. One special thing about the pages in the journal is that they can be torn out and used on card fronts or memory-keeping pages, whatever you like!

Here’s another journal that I decorated last fall.

At the beginning of each new year, we often feel we want to start something new or resolve to have better habits of all kinds. If you feel like to want to do some journaling in the new year, get this Pressed Petals Journal because it’s not intimidating with expectations at all. It’s small, so you barely have to write anything at all, but if you jot down some memories or thoughts, you might be very happy you did in future years to look back on!

Have a Safe & Happy New Year’s Eve!

Decorate Your Own Pressed Petals Journal

Pressed Petals Journal Embellished

The Pressed Petals Journal could almost be left alone with its embossed cover and it’s a shame to cover it up with any embellishments, but it does need a little something and this is how I decorated the Pressed Petals Journal in the Stampin Up! Annual Catalog.

This is another of those products that you just might miss in the catalog. You’ll find it on page 170 in the Memories & More section. It’s a spiral-bound little journal and you can even tear out some of the pages if you like to decorate card fronts or on memory-keeping pages. Or you can just leave it all together and add photos or your own written thoughts on the pages. It’s for you to use however you like or give as a gift to someone.

In decorating the cover of the Pressed Petals Journal, I used the catalog for my inspiration. I loved one of the card samples on page 131 of the catalog so I copied that idea.

The cover uses the Bloom & Grow Stamp Set, stamping the flowers and the sentiment plus the coordinating Budding Blooms Dies. I stamped two copies of the floral spray, colored it with Stampin’ Blends Markers, and die cut with the Budding Blooms Dies. The sentiment is stamped and cut out with a scalloped edge using one of the dies, also. There’s even a little more stamping in the background behind the die-cut flowers and greeting.

Pressed Petals Journal Embellished Closeup

Of course, I couldn’t leave well enough alone, so I colored on some of the flowers with the Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush for a little glitter and shine! Not one to be a slouch, I also added some sequins in the background! You can’t have too much subtle sparkle!

The inside pages of the journal have some writing prompts of sorts and decorated pages.

You might want to pick up several of these journals. Maybe you want several for yourself or to give to friends, or even to have on hand when you just want to give a little special gift to someone.

Santa Clear Tiny Treat Box

Santa Clear Tiny Treat Box

Looking for an easy way to make a little treat box?  Look no farther than this Santa Clear Tiny Treat Box!  I love the little Clear Tiny Treat Boxes that are so easy to decorate!  Have them for a little table favor at each place setting, as a party favor, as a little decoration, or to hold a small gift or treat. So many ideas and you can decorate for any occasion!

For this treat box, I used the Santa’s Workshop 12″ x 12″ Specialty Designer Series Paper.  This paper is called “Specialty” because it has some flocking on many of the images!  It just adds a nice, surprise touch to the paper.  You might be able to see in the photo that the Santa hat has some flocking on the little ball on the hat and on the brim.

These Clear Tiny Treat Boxes come flat and protected by a piece of plastic that you pull off.  Then just crease the score lines and assemble the box. I cut a strip of a plainer pattern of the paper to wrap around the box.  I find it best to estimate the length of the strip you need, then just wrap it around the box, holding it tightly while kind of creasing it with your fingers around each side of the box. THEN I use my Bone Folder to properly crease the lines.  Sometimes this assures a better fit than prescoring it.

The particular Santa I chose can be die-cut with one of the Santa’s Signpost Framelits Dies.  If you don’t own the dies, just cut out the Santa by hand with the Paper Snips.  Adhere to the front of the box.  I also added a ribbon tied around the box, the Poppy Parade 1/2″ Textured Weave Ribbon.

One of the fun things that happened accidentally was that if you look closely at the photo, you can see the images from inside the box on the opposite side of the paper band! It just happens to be cute little images that I happened to cut so that they would show.

Now all that’s left is to put some Christmas candy in the box or some shred and a little gift. Put a Thanksgiving image on the front and put at each place setting for your Thanksgiving dinner.  It will be both a table decoration and party favor. Put a package or two of the Clear Tiny Treat Boxes on your order and have them on hand.  You will be glad you did!

Summer has ended and now it is almost fall, at least that’s what Labor Day weekend tells us! Here in Houston we still have plenty of hot weather to go, although after the wrath of Hurricane Harvey last weekend, I think we are going to be treated to a little bit cooler weather for a few days. It’s hard to believe a week ago we’d had 3″ of rain with another 32″ to go by Sunday morning. And even as I write this post, people are still being evacuated from places that are still flooding and from places east of Houston where Harvey’s path took it after it hit here. By some grace of God, we are still fine in our home.

That’s why it is so good to have something to help us relax and take our minds off the troubles of the world for a little while. That’s why we say “Stamping is cheaper than therapy!” Of course a lot of stampers and other Demonstrators are still trying to save their stamps and papercrafting supplies from the flood or will have none left when this is all over with.  Stampin’ Up! has already stepped up to help some of those people.

Here are some Stampin’ Up! videos for you to enjoy and to get a better feel for some of the products in the Holiday Catalog!

When you look through the catalog, when you see that little “play” arrow near a product description, that means there is a video for that product or suite of products.

If you do not have a Demonstrator and would like a Holiday Catalog, it seems that our mail service is back up so I can send you a complimentary copy.  Email me at Karen@KarenStamps.com with your contact information and let me know if you would also like a copy of the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog.

Be sure to order your favorite products as soon as you can as some could go on backorder temporarily as we have seen in the past!  If something is backordered when you want to order it, I always think it is best to go ahead and add it to your order anyway rather than wait until the stock is resupplied because Stampin’ Up! will send it out to you as soon as they have it.

A Snowy Day Card For Summer Fun With Stampin’ Up! Color Theory

A Snowy Day Card For Summer Fun With Stampin' Up! Color Theory

You may see this and say “Bite your tongue!” if you live in a climate that has winter, but here in Houston, Texas we have to do what it takes to take our mind off the relentless heat and humidity of summer.  With that in mind, I made this Snowy Day Card For Summer Fun With Stampin’ Up! Color Theory.

I saw another card along this same idea and didn’t realize at first where the greeting came from. The greeting is a card in the Color Theory Card Pack, part of the new line of products Memories & More from Stampin’ Up!  Actually, I was looking for the card that said, “Let It Snow”, but came across this one, “Bring on the Snow”!  I loved it for my purpose today!

The card base is Whisper White cardstock with a layer of ombre Dapper Denim piece of paper from the Color Theory Designer Series Paper StackOf course I had to cut down the 6″ x 6″ piece of paper from the stack, so I first cut it at 4″ wide, but for the length I wanted all the ombre shades to show. Instead of cutting off the length at just 5 1/4″ and losing a bigger chunk of one of the shades I cut strips off both ends to eventually make the 5 1/4″ piece.

The snowflakes are die cut with the Seasonal Layers Thinlits DiesThey cut beautifully and were easy to remove from the die with the Big Shot Die Brush(This year in the catalog this Die Brush comes with TWO foam pads instead of one like last year.)

In laying out the card, I found another card in the Color Theory Card Pack that looked good behind the greeting so I just angled them (which I don’t usually do) and adhered them to the card front.  Finally I added the little snowflakes!  So cute!

This card was so quick and simple to make using the Color Theory Card Pack! It is definitely not just for scrapbooking and memory-keeping!  If you know someone who would like to dabble in cardmaking, maybe buying them some cardstock and some of the Memories & More card packs plus adhesive will provide just enough supplies to give them a taste of easy cardmaking!

The weather forecast in Houston this week is temperatures in the high 90’s with “feels like” temperatures even higher, plus the humidity, PLUS Saharan Dust from Africa that is bothering some peoples’ allergies and health issues.  So why not think about the remote possibility of snow on such hot days?!  And when I say “remote possibility of snow” I mean in the dead of what we call winter down here!  It’s a nice thought, anyway, and cooled me off just making the cute little snowflakes!

Last Week for Bonus Days! Spend $50 in July and get a $5 Coupon to use in August! No Limits! Ends July 31.

Find Out About the New Memory-Keeping System From Stampin’ Up!

Get acquainted with the new memory-keeping system by Stampin’ Up! Doesn’t that video just make you want to get your photos together and start designing your album? However, this system isn’t just for memory-keeping, as evidenced by the name, Memories & More! This system is comprised of Card Packs that you can buy to keep handy to use on regular greeting cards, to write quick notes on, or to slip in a Pocket Page along with photos and journaling for memory-keeping. These Card Packs come with extra accessories as well, plus coordinate with other Stampin’ Up! products, so you will have plenty of supplies available to you!

Besides the Card Packs, there are also Albums, two in a 6″ x 8″ size and one in a 12″ x 12″ size. There are Variety Packs of the Photo Pocket pages plus one kind that holds a full 12″ x 12″ sheet of paper or enlarged photo.

Watch Bonnie from the Stampin’ Up! Home Office share about the Memories & More products and system.

I think these Card Packs are so fun to have on hand! If you still have little children in school (or even BIG ones!) you can use these cards to hide in their lunch box or backpack for just a sweet or encouraging note from you! Keep them within reach if you want to dash off a short note to a friend. Once you get started you probably will think of other uses as well!

Just having these Card Packs, pocket pages and albums on hand will get your creative juices flowing. Keep it as simple as you want!  Simply slide photos and cards into the pockets and maybe add a bit of journaling on one card (believe me, future generations who see your albums will appreciate this!). Now if you WANT to, get really creative and have fun adding extra embellishments to some of the cards or photos, jazz it up however you like.  But at least start with the simple version so you can make some progress.  Then you have that done, at least, and can go back later to embellish more if you like.

If you received my Stamping With Karen Newsletter yesterday, you saw a traditional-looking scrapbook page I made with several of the cards in the Color Theory Card Pack, plus I added some stamping from the Colorful Seasons Stamp Set. (And if you aren’t on my mailing list, sign up today in the red box on the top right of my blog page so you won’t miss these new projects!)
