This is a gift I received the other day and I just loved the colors of the box and the ribbon! Of course the Godiva candy inside is wonderful, too! When I compared the colors of the box and ribbon, it was very close to our Stampin' Up! In Colors....Crushed Curry, Dusty Durango, and Bermuda Bay.
So, using the gold Godiva box and the ribbon as inspiration, here is a card I came up with using the Hostess stamp set "Kind & Caring Thoughts" and the In Colors mentioned above.
So you see, you can use everyday things as your source of inspiration in making your cards and projects!

Sadly there is occasionally a need for sympathy cards. Here are two I made today. The stamp set "Thoughts & Prayers" is just perfect for sympathy cards or other "thinking of you" occasions....but I don't own that set so had to choose some other options.
This is a photo I took of the Statement of the Heart at the Stampin' Up! Home Office in Riverton, UT that I visited when I went to Convention. You can read it HERE (without the glare!) as well as a message from Shelli Gardner about the company.
Whether you are looking to build a successful stamping and scrapbooking business or whether you just want to add a little more fun, friendship, (and more stamps!) to your life...or something in between...or you don't even know yet!....I would say in all sincerity Stampin' Up! is for you!

I was going to say it is probably still 100 degrees outside here in Houston, but apparently it is only 88 today due to a lot of clouds earlier. Let's just say it is very hot here everyday, and by the end of August it starts to get you crazy. Somehow I got to playing around with my "Trendy Trees" stamp set and decided to think about fall. We're thinking about a fall foliage trip to New England so I guess that is what is on my mind! Here is a little card I made this afternoon. Think about fall coming on eventually and cool yourself off!
Stamp set: Trendy Trees
Paper: Old Olive, Soft Suede, Very Vanilla, Ruby Red card stock; Autumn Traditions Designer Series Paper
Ink: Soft Suede, Old Olive
Accessories: Hemp Twine, sponge, Stamp-a-ma-jig
Maybe in another month I will make this card again and give it some colored leaves!

The kids are back to school here in Houston and many other places around the country. I was reminded of a journal I made for each of my children during their senior year of high school. Just get yourself any notebook.....I used these Composition notebooks that you can pick up on sale now....and every night write an entry about your senior's day. It is supposed to be positive. The more often you write in it, the more valuable it will be to them in the future. It's very easy to do if you put it beside your bed or wherever a good spot for you is to see it and remind yourself to do it! My kids did seem to show at least a smidge of appreciation for it when I gave it to them as one of their graduation gifts, but what I really intend is that someday when they are middle-aged adults they will come across this notebook and have some fun reading what went on in their life when they were 17-18.
Just start with a plain notebook like this:
And when it is time for graduation, just decorate the cover with cardstock and stamping.....that's why I like this composition notebook because it is easy to decorate.
Here is the one I made for my son back in 2007. You can decorate with school colors or whatever you like.
It's always fun to meet someone new and introduce them to stamping! Do you know someone who loves stamping or scrapbooking? Do you have a friend who would just like to come to a stamp camp or class with you and maybe they would discover a new hobby? I appreciate your referrals and will thank you with a Stampin' Up! gift certificate!
Customer Referral Program
Refer a new customer to me and receive:
$5 gift certificate for every new customer you refer to me when they place their first order or attend their first class/stamp camp.
$10 additional gift certificate if your referral hosts a party (has a workshop with friends or as a catalog party).
$20 additional gift certificate if your referral signs up as a Demonstrator on my team.
Just be sure they tell me that YOU referred them to me!
*Only one referral program is in effect at a time. Because hostesses already receive great benefits from Stampin' Up!, this referral reward does not extend to a workshop/party which you host. Essentially this is appreciation for you referring a customer to me, outside of a workshop, who might not have known about my business, or tried stamping, without you!
I appreciate it when you are enthused enough about my Stampin' Up! business to tell your friends and family about it, or refer them to my blog, website or newsletter. The tagline of Stampin' Up! is "Inspire. Create. Share" and I know we love to "Share" a good thing!
Just a little while ago I checked the Stampin' Up! website in the Demo area to see if there were any new updates or news from Stampin' Up!.....and I also always check the "Stamper's Showcase" area where Stampin' Up! posts cards and scrapbook pages made by demonstrators as a source of ideas for us to show our customers. What a surprise, to say the least, to see one of my swap cards from Convention on that site today!!!!!!! I'm sure it is not quite as exciting as earning the Stampin' Up! cruise or any of their other wonderful incentives BUT it is a highlight as a demonstrator to see your card up there on display on Stamper's Showcase!! And this was my first time!! Now I don't think it is too miraculous, really, because at Convention they always have opportunities for you to drop your cards into a basket for Stampin' Up! to use on displays or on Stamper's Showcase or however they choose...and I did put my swap cards into the Big Shot Doctor's Bag they had in the Demo Support Offices! But a THRILL nonetheless!!!!!
Here is where I posted on my blog about how I made this card. The stamp set is Circle Circus.
Doesn't this make YOU want to sign up to be a Demonstrator so you can see my card behind the scenes on the Stampin' Up! website....I mean, so maybe YOU can get YOUR card on Stamper's Showcase??!! Think about it!
When it comes to the art and craft of stamping, the theme of this year's national Stampin' Up! convention says it all, says Shelli Gardner, co-founder and CEO of the 20-year-old company.
Card-making, scrapbooking, home decor, gift items, apparel — whatever you do, however you find your creative outlet, she says, your life can be enriched.
Through these crafts, "you create tangible products, but you create something of value on many levels," Gardner says.
"And then you can turn around and share it with others. True inspiration causes you to stop and think, but it also so powerful that it moves you to action," she says. "A lot of fulfillment comes from that."
One of her favorite quotes comes from Ralph Waldo Emerson, who said: "In life, the hand can never execute anything higher than the heart can inspire."
Through these crafts, she says, "you are able to create the most valuable thing of all — relationships. That's the thing that most of our stampers talk about. Fun and enthusiasm are contagious and meant to be shared."
Stampin' Up! was started in 1988 by Gardner and her sister, LaVonne Crosby, when they got hooked on stamping and looked for a home-based business opportunity that would let them buy and sell rubber stamps. Finding none, they decided to create their own.
Today, there are some 40,000 Stampin' Up! demonstrators worldwide. The products are sold through in-home workshops and demonstrations and (at a slightly higher price) online. Today, the catalog has expanded to include not only stamps but paper, punches, art supplies, die cuts, stencils, home decor products and more.
Some 3,000 of their demonstrators gathered at the Salt Palace recently for the national convention. What is so fun, says Elizabeth Gray, public relations spokesman for Stampin' Up!, is "that they come from all walks of life, all ages, all stages of life. Some do it mostly so they can get their own products at a discount, some own their own businesses, and some even support their families."
At the convention, two new product lines were introduced and will be available this fall. The first is digital crafting software called My Digital Studio, which enables crafters to digitally design scrapbooks, cards and calenders as well as create multimedia outputs such as video, says Brent Steele, vice president for creative services at Stampin' Up!
Digital is becoming an increasing part of the scrapbook and crafting world, says Steele. "It's bringing in a whole new group of crafters: computer geeks, husbands and other men, younger crafters."
A second new line is a partnership with Build-A-Bear Workshop that will allow the Utah-based stamping company to create a collection of stamp sets, designer papers and die cuts built around Build-A-Bear Workshop mascot Bearamy and his furry friends. "I know I will be spending hours playing with my grandchildren, making all kinds of Build-A-Bear creations," Gardner says.
Jill Kocherhans demonstrated a few possibilities, including a gift sack, a little canvas bag for crayons, magnetic paper dolls and a framed picture scene. Some of her projects were made from what was left of the others. "Never throw anything away," is her advice.
"Experiment, and you can often find a new use for it."
Stamps can be used on paper, cloth, wood and other materials. Die cuts can be created out of fabric ironed on to fusible web that in turn can be ironed on to other fabrics, or out of magnetic sheets, or cardstock and other things available at any craft store, she says. All it takes is imagination, inspiration and creativity.
That's one thing that Sheila Paul, a demonstrator from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, loves about it all. "You can incorporate so many different crafts into what you do; they all cross the lines these days."
Her daughter, Heather, "is in it for the photography. I love to do portfolios and wedding albums."
There's something that everyone can do, says Trina Boyd, also from Edmonton. "I love it when people say, 'Oh, I can't do it; I'm not creative at all.' I sit down with them and pretty soon, they are saying, 'Oh, this is easy. I could do this at home.' "
Cynthia Ritzman, from Ontario, Calif., was in a painting group with some friends, and "one member of the group started stamping. I thought, 'Why do I need another hobby?' But we saw the fun she was having and we all gave in and started stamping. Now that's all we do."
It's like the "Sisterhood of the Traveling Stamp," jokes Trina Lopez. "You never know where you'll go, but you know you'll have fun."
That's the thing that Ritzman loves most. "You get to have a fun, relaxing time together. If you're not friends to start, you will be soon. You will find people to share your life."
It can be "completely addicting," warns Sharon Maxwell, of Marshall, Minn., with a grin. "Maybe we need a Stampers Anonymous." On the other hand, she says, "I love it. It's a great way to spend time with your best friends, doing something you can all enjoy."
The theme does say it all, adds her friend, Carol Jones, Oreana, Ill. "It's so rewarding to see someone's eyes light up because of something they've made. You both feed good. It's inspiring. It's creative. And it's just plain fun."
Tax Free Holiday in Texas this weekend! Aug. 21-23! That's Friday, Sat. and Sunday! I think school supplies are new on the list this year as tax free items in Texas so get what you need! Think ahead to all of those school projects you will encounter, usually at 10:00 pm the night before they are due! Wouldn't it be great to have supplies on hand to make life easier? I know it has worked for my kids! I always had a shelf in my closet of a stash of school supplies so we never ran out of notebooks or adhesives or pens or whatever! Sometimes other moms would say they thought about calling me to see if I had extra of something their kids needed because they knew I had a stash!
And if not school projects, think about Girl Scout and Cub Scout projects. My family always rolled their eyes at all of Mom's crafting, but as soon as they needed something for the Pinewood Derby car or whatever, it was always, "You wouldn't happen to have........?" and I usually did!
From Stampin' Up! "The state of Texas is having a sales tax holiday from August 21 - 23. Because school supply items are included in this sales tax holiday, the below list of items will be taxfree during the holiday period. Please note that you must place your order with Stampin’ Up! during the tax holiday period in order to receive these items taxfree."
Uni-ball Signo gel pen, 105021, $3.95
Basic Black Stampin’ Write journaler, 105394, $3.25
I think these projects were by Spencer Willis from Stampin' Up! We love to see Spencer's presentations.....and THEN he SINGS!!! What a beautiful voice! I always love the parts when the Stampin' Up! employees perform for us because they are SO talented!

Snowflakes, from the Hostess Level 2 Set, Christmas Punch, punched out with the Boho Blossoms punch.
This flower is made with the Big Shot and the Flower Folds Die....just fold the petals up to fit into the Bitty Box!
The die-cut Elegant Notes....you can see how to use this note as a stencil on the little album three photos down!
An album using the "Write Stuff Specialty Designer Series Paper".
Coaster made using the Big Shot Clear Circle Die and the best-selling Medallion stamp!
The green stencil is made from the Elegant die cut notes.
I just LOVE this train from "Whoo's Your Valentine?"
We loved watching Spencer make this card using the "Gratuitous Graffiti" Background Stamp (inking up just the word "Gratitude" with a sponge dauber) and adding in stamping (stamped off) using "Extreme Elements". He also did a little "splattering" with a marker and the Color Spritzer Tool.
I love watching stamping demonstrations by such talented people!!

August is halfway over already so be sure you don't miss this great deal!
In my opinion, "swapping" at Convention is one of the really fun things that goes on! In case you are not familiar, people make just cardfronts, usually, all the same....or at least lots of several different designs, with their name and "recipe" on the back (what stamp set they used, what color inks, paper, accessories) and then you walk around and trade with other demos for what they have made. This gives you quite a selection of different card ideas, samples of stamp sets that maybe you don't own or more samples of ones you do own, different color combinations, etc. AND it is an opportunity to meet and talk to other demonstrators as you go around and say "Are you swapping?" And of course they are!! Some ladies practically have a storefront of swap choices you can pick from! But most have maybe two or three different cards to choose from. Some people also make 3-D swaps, which could be anything but a card....maybe a little box, maybe a notebook, maybe cute packaging for candy. I didn't get around to making those but I wish I did! Maybe next year! And then there are "organized swaps" where you actually sign up in advance to participate and meet at a certain time and place to swap those items. Some people take a little more time and effort to make something extra special for those swaps. It is a horrible thing when you finally run out of swaps and have to stop and see others still swapping! I can't wait for my customers to see these samples and see which ones they really like or what ideas they can get from these swaps!
Here is my pile of swaps I received from my "general" swapping! It really is so much fun! Later I'll go through and choose some of my favorites!
We got lots of Make & Take projects at Convention plus the four stamp sets and a wheel to do them with! I'm sure everyone loved getting so many things to stamp, but it was a little too much to do in the time allotted. However, I didn't mind because after stamping a couple of things, I opted to just save mine to do at home.....and instead I went to stand in line for Memento Mall to open so I could buy my Stampin' Up! Bear!! So I had the best of both worlds! The stamp sets we received were:
Hello Again p. 114
Sweet Season p. 29
Things I Love p. 54
Tree Trimmings p. 28
Retro Remix Stampin' Around wheel p. 114
Here are the projects:
A scrapbook page with some Direct to Paper White Craft ink, a grommet on one of the flowers, and notice a little end of the Modern Label punch sticking up above the bow at the top where the photo would go. (sorry, the photo is a little blurry!)
Christmas tags made with the Big Shot Two Tags die. Very cute! You could slide a candy cane through the folded one.
The new Treat Boxes, page 159...more like a bag than a box, but very nice. The ribbon is polka dot on one side and plain on the other.
Cute little cello bag of 3x3 note cards and envelopes. Perfect for a little gift!
Notes out of the bag.
Cute, cute little box! Just two scored pieces of cardstock, glue one flap onto the bottom so it opens.
The box opened. The back flap of the top is glued to the bottom left side.
Kind of a gate fold card where the two front flaps open and a belly band around.
The card opened.
Cute and easy card and stamped envelope! New color Crushed Curry.
Easy Christmas card, although you have to cut out the ornaments by hand! Love the new ribbon!
How's that for fun?! Don't forget about the Specials going on now to become a Demo if you want to go to Convention next August!! Click on that link or the image on the sidebar of my blog.......then go to my website to join...and use the password "karenstamps" (no quotes). Or contact me with any questions!
Will I ever get tired of talking about the Stampin' Up! Convention?? I don't think so!! There was so much good information, so many IDEAS, so much fun, so much friendship....even extra treats at lunch!.....popcorn, ice cream, candy!!
Shelli Gardner has a fabulous presentation at Convention! She literally walked out on stage carrying ALL of these boxes in which she had handmade gifts that are so easy to make. Who wouldn't want to receive (or make!) one of these gifts?! Think how much easier your holiday shopping would be if you got started now at your kitchen table or desk, enjoyed what you were doing, and wouldn't have to fight the crowds at the mall come holiday time! A substantial savings in money for you and a gift with more meaning for the recipient!
Notice how she just used plain boxes and then tied our Stampin' Up! ribbon around. She even used the wide twill tape and attached Stampin' Up! buttons, apparently like they do at expensive stores.
An easy little triange box Shelli made:
A little lip balm holder:
A tag:
A coaster stamped with the new Medallion stamp!
Earrings made with the metal edge tags!
More earrings:
More earrings:
A beautiful brooch to wear, fabric cut with the Big Shot! Loved it!
A headband covered with fabric cut with the Big Shot!
I think this was a card with a bookmark inside or you could put a gift card:
Shelli made these with her relatives at a family reunion out of sheet metal, covered with Designer Series Paper.....so they can't be too hard!
A similar magnetic board but enclosed in a picture frame:
One of the new magnetic boxes you will find in the Holiday Mini:
One of the new Simply Adorned Charms that is in the upcoming Holiday Mini. Shelli made a bunch of these for the "Prize Patrol" to give away, signed on the back! I dare say it was one of the highlights of Convention, for those who won one. Unfortunately, it was not me! They called out "Yellow.... (and I had a yellow wristband!)....Swirls!" Darn! So close, yet so far! But I will be ordering one (or more) because they are beautiful and you can change the artwork inside any time you want.
Here are some more random photos from Convention! I think you can click on the photos to get a larger version.
A magnetic board made with the Build-A-Bear die cuts. Just use magnetic sheets and make your own paper dolls!
A display board with red, white, and blue!
A class about using Decor Elements:
Ways to use Decor Elements besides on the wall:
So cute for a child's room! But I think all of us stampers could use this saying in our craft rooms!
A beautiful sample on display!!
Some Build-A-Bear samples:
An album made with "My Digital Studio", one of the new pieces of jewelry, "Simply Adorned Charms" in the Holiday Mini (wait until you see these in person!), and the calendar in the Holiday Mini:
Another gorgeous project on display. Love those display boards!!
