On Saturday I had the pleasure of working with a group of thirteen Girl Scouts from a troop in Sugarland, TX to earn their "Doing Hobbies" badge. It was a fun day, and all of the girls did an excellent job on their projects! It's a great testament to how easy stamping is, even for beginners. In no time, these girls were putting their own touches on their projects.
***If you are in the Houston/Sugarland area and need help doing your Hobby Badge for Scouts, please contact me at KSFontinelle@gmail.com . I can personalize projects for your group and ages!
We started with an easy little gift for someone....Peppermint Patties decorated with stamping and the Scallop Circle punch.
Next we tried a technique of coloring directly on the stamp with markers to get multi-colors on one stamp. This was a fun and easy card to make and most girls immediately started writing a note inside to send to someone. They really had fun decorating the envelope!
The mother hosting the event presented an interesting history of the hobby of scrapbooking. Did you know Mark Twain was a scrapbooker?! Here is the scrapbook page the girls made:
As part of the badge requirements, we talked about how stamping and scrapbooking could fit into a person's life.
And for one last project, all the girls decorated this composition notebook.
It was a fun day and I hope the girls enjoyed learning a new hobby!
Next Tuesday, June 30th will be the LAST day to make a purchase from the Spring~Summer 2009 Idea Book & Catalog! It was a great catalog, and I hate to see it go. I loved the scalloped edge on the cover of the last two catalogs! If there are any stamp sets or accessories that you loved in the catalog and don't own yet, now is the time to get your order in!
From there you can go right to the "Shop Now" button in the upper right corner of that page on my Stampin' Up! website. Or contact me and I will be happy to help you.
The other day I went in my local Dollar Tree store and the first thing I saw were decorations for July 4th. It's hard to imagine it is almost time for that holiday already. I saw these sets of red, silver, and blue beads, kind of like Mardi Gras beads. I KNEW I had to have some because we go to the same fireworks display in Stafford every year with our neighbors, and the beads would be perfect for Nita and I to be wearing! We already have our 4th of July head band thing with flowing ribbons we have been know to wear! At the high price of $1, I decided I had to purchase another set of beads for our other friend Rhonda who used to go to the same fireworks with us and who loves the 4th.
So today when we all had lunch together I decided to quickly make some 2-5-7-10 Boxes to give them their beads. The instructions are from Jenn Balcer on Splitcoaststampers. You just need one sheet of 8 1/2" x 11" in. cardstock, scored at 2, 5, 7 and 10 inches. Turn the cardstock and score at 2 and 7 inches. Putting the 2" section of cardstock at the top with the 1" wide side section on the left, cut off all top sections but the 2"x 3" section at the top left. Also cut off the tiny little 1 x 1/2" in the lower left corner. Cut up on the bottom 3 score lines at the bottom, just up to the horizontal score line. Stamp your box while it is flat. You can fold all the scored lines now and see how your box is going to go together. The top 2 x 3 section can be scalloped with your Scallop Edge Punch if desired. Otherwise, you just have one side tab to glue to close up the box (I would use Sticky Strip or Tombow Multi Purpose adhesive) and adhere the bottom flaps. After the box is assembled, you will see that you need to pinch in the sides in order to close the top flap, like a sack. Punch two holes in that flap for ribbon, close the box and mark where you want to punch the holes on the box. This is the hardest part! I found the Rectangle Punch worked the best for me in reaching the right spots and making a large enough hole to insert ribbon. Thread the ribbon through the holes from inside the box and then through the backside of the flap so that you can tie a bow or knot on the front. This is a good standard box to use for any occasion for a little gift or decoration. Let me know if you have any questions!
Don't forget!! If it is close to July 4th, that means the end of the current Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog is near! You must get your Last Chance order in by June 30th, and it is best to do it as soon as possible!
For those of you scrambling at the last minute for a Father's Day card, here is one I must made and it only took me probably five minutes....and you don't even have to think up the design! This old stamp set, "Lovely As A Tree" has been around a long time and we always hold our breath at retirement time thinking it might go. Fortunately, it is still here and is such a versatile set, especially when you need a masculine card.
On this card I just used Kraft as the card base, stamped with some Close to Cocoa leaves, lightly (stamping off first after inking up). The tree is stamped with Basic Brown and literally scribbled in with some markers, Close to Cocoa for the tree trunk and various greens for the leaves. A little sponging if you want around the edges, layer, adhere, and you have a card. You can stamp "Happy Father's Day" on the inside or write your own message. Of course you could add some ribbon or hemp twine or any other embellishments to jazz it up, but most fathers won't want it jazzed up!
Here's my Father's Day card for my husband! I haven't used this set very much even though I like it a lot, so decided a few stamped beers would make a good card this year! The base of the card is Kraft cardstock, the designer paper "Manchester", great for masculine cards. If he wouldn't have come home earlier than I expected, I would have covered the beer steins with Crystal Effects to look like glass....but too late now! I colored the beer with my Watercolor Crayons, with a little shadow of gray around the foam. The inside has the "Happy Father's Day greeting from "All Holidays", a stamp set I just received FREE from Stampin' Up! for my Sale-A-Bration award. It's possible to earn free stamps as a demo! And who doesn't like FREE?!
One of my blog readers emailed the other day and asked how I had made the diorama card, which is in THIS post. While I looked up the measurements and refreshed my memory with scrap paper in order to answer her, I got inspired to make another Diorama Card! They really are fun and easy, so you should try it! Once you make one you can see how you could change the measurements to suit your purpose, but these are the ones I used.
You need:
2 pieces of cardstock 8.5" x 3" for the front and back pieces, score each piece at 2" from each end.
1 piece of cardstock 6.5" x 3" for the middle piece, score at 1" from each end.
Punch or cut center opening on front and middle pieces. I used the Large Tag Punch and cut off the little remaining triangles with my Paper Snips. You could use circle punches, a square punch, or even a hobby knife. Using the tag punch, I punched in the center, then off to each side, creating the large opening. You could leave space in between and make window panes. (I love to use the Stampin' Up! grid paper because on it I can measure, align, scribble, stamp, write, etc.)
Before you adhere anything, go ahead and stamp or decorate your card how you want.
To assemble, use a strong adhesive such as Sticky Strip or Tombow Multi Purpose Adhesive. Love that Tombow! Set the middle piece inside the back piece as you see in the photos. Then you will see that the front piece side flaps cover the outside of the "box".
Stamp sets I used on this card:
Trendy Trees, Boho Backgrounds, Party Hearty, Crazy for Cupcakes
Here's another graduation card (or for any occasion) made following almost the same idea as THIS card in a previous post. This time I wanted a money holder. This card is not as wide as it should be to hold the money, but in this case I wanted it to fit in a certain envelope....so I'll just have to fold the money in half! The card front measures 3" x 6" with a fold up pocket on the inside of 2". Therefore, you need to cut your cardstock at 8" x 6", scoring at 2" and 5" so you can fold the 2" pocket up inside the card and then the 3" top folds down.
The star actually spins on the front! I found the design by Dawn while browsing on Splitcoast here. It adds a fun little element!
If you need the star punches to make a spinning star, just place your order here on my website.
This was originally just my first attempt with my new Three Tier Pop-Up Cake Die, but when it was time to send my daughter a birthday card I decided to go with this pop-up. I only had the "bare" cake constructed, so I had to finish it up. I quickly punched out some flowers with the Trio Flower Punch and inserted Gold Brads and adhered those on the cake. I love to use a touch of glitter anywhere I can, so I used the Two-Way Glue pen on the flames of the candles and shook on some Dazzling Diamonds Glitter.
The front of the card is decorated with some Rainbow Sherbet Designer Series Paper, ribbon, and the Party Hearty stamp set with a little flower from the Pretties Kit. The Designer Paper and ribbon is actually a little band to hold the card closed.
Here's what the card looks like without the band.
This card is made with the new "Three Tier Cake Pop-Up Bigz XL Die" (#116760). You might think this looks too complicated, but I was actually able to make this at 3 am one night when I couldn't sleep! (I think my mind was on this new die I had received and couldn't wait any longer to try it!). A little bride and groom also comes with this die so you can also mkae a wedding cake! And don't think you will be limited to just birthday or wedding cakes! Other creative demos have made pirate ships, a flower pot, and all kinds of designs with this die. Instructions come with the die, and of course I am always available for help!
Here's the first card I finally made with my new In Colors and new stamp set, Circle Circus for our demo preorder.
I made several cards using various combinations of the new In Colors. The technique I used is called Emboss Resist....I stamped the circles with Versamark and embossed with Clear Embossing Powder. Then I sponged on various In Color inks over the embossing and then wiped off with a tissue. Very simple and fun! The polka dot ribbon is also new! Isn't it pretty?!
You can still sign up to be a demo and take advantage of this great preorder opportunity of new products!
I was asked to do another scrapbook page, essentially, with some baby photos just like THIS post. Again, I forgot to photograph the page before putting on the photo so I had to obscure the child's photo. I wish you could see it because the expression on her face is so cute! I wanted her expression to be the focal point of the page and had to hold myself back from adding too much to the page.
It's funny how you build a page like this (or at least I do!)....try this, try that, what about this color, photo placement, and then what embellishments. The base paper is from Tea Party Designer Series Paper and the base card stock is Pretty in Pink. Since she is holding a ball, I wanted some circles on the page. For the left hand scallop border, I just punched out lots of circles and placed them partly underneath the cardstock. Then I covered that "seam" with the turquoise DSP from Rainbow Sherbet. It matched her cute little dress and a color on the ball she is holding. The scallop edge underneath the photo is made using the Stampin' Up! Scallop Edge Punch and I added some white dots with my Signo Gel Pen. I wanted to add some chipboard letters for her name. The On Board Timeless Type worked for that, and they were covered with some Raspberry Tart DSP (which matched a color on the ball and in the bow in her hair) using Stampin' Up! Glue Sticks. I used the Flower Assortment Brads along the side of the photo, which added a little something without being too distracting. I added the beautiful Whisper White Organza Ribbon across the bottom underneath the "adorable" from "Warm Words". I'd played with adding flowers, especially the "Fleurettes", but they didn't seem quite right. Finally I thought of adding the white bows as they are and that seemed to be the finishing touch! It just shows that all you need to do is play around a little bit with scrapbooking and finally everything will come together! This could be a scrapbook page but I put it in a 12x12 frame to hang on the wall. I hope the recipient likes it!
If you need to order any of the supplies to make a page like this just go to My Website and click on the Shop Now button. Or contact me if you have any questions about how to make this page or something similar.
I really got into using "Upsy Daisy" the other day and had fun making this card.
It was kind of fun using the Basic Gray paper and the Designer Paper is from the Occasions Mini, Walk in the Park. I stamped the daisies with White Craft Ink and then embossed with Clear Embossing Powder, right onto the designer paper for a different look. The yellow card stock is So Saffron.
It's been an exciting morning for Stampin' Up! Demos! Stampin' Up! has released their Last Chance Lists (the new name for "Retiring") as well as given us a glimpse of some new catalog merchandise and Hostess sets that we could preorder starting today!
***For new customers, Stampin' Up! "retires" certain stamp sets and accessories about a month before a new catalog release. This means that if there is something on these lists that you want, you need to order it before it is gone forever. This makes room for new merchandise, which of course we are all always excited about as well! The new catalog will be available for ordering on July 1, 2009. The retiring stamp sets will be available during June because Stampin' Up! manufactures the stamps themselves. However, the accessories and Decor Elements are from other vendors and once the supply is exhausted, that's it! So don't delay in ordering what you want from the current catalog!
Edited 6/2/2009 to add:
####STAMPIN' UP! CORRECTION TO THE LISTS......
The following stamp sets have been removed from the Last Chance stamp list and will be available for purchase from the dormant list during the 2009-2010 Idea Book & Catalog sales period.
Also, the following items were added to the Last Chance accessories list and are available for purchase while supplies last.

The LONG list below is retiring accessories. This list may change by the minute, certainly by the day, so even though it may say available, it doesn't guarantee availability. I will try to update daily as Stampin' Up! updates on the website. This will just be to give you an idea but you won't know for sure until you order. Be sure to notice selected items are discounted!
